Human errors not forgiven... If you ever want to know how a "favorite" credit union handles customer service, accidentally make a "human" error on a payment. I did just that! The amount of credit card charges on last month's statement came to $595.69. I pay my statements - in full - monthly. In error I read - and made last month's payment - for $595.64 - technically .05 short of the statement amount. This month, an additional charge of $7.86 appeared on this month's statement - apparently representing interest charges for the "human" error I'd made in making last month's statement payment (actually, statement font is also relatively small). Thinking that the solution would be relatively simple, I'd call; tell the truth ("I made a mistake"), beg for forgiveness ("this is the first time I've ever done this")...and try to bring some "reality" (read: "humanness") to the situation ("since I'm a good, consistent customer...can you waive this fee"). Here's the OUTCOME...I MUST pay the EXACT amount on this month's statement ($579.18 - which besides credit card charges for the month includes the $7.86 interest charge for the "human" error made in misreading and paying last month's statement). Once this month's payment has been received by them, they will "take it under consideration" whether to "credit back" that interest charge onto next month's statement. Looks like this particular credit union 1) has little regard for "human" error; 2) struggles with recognizing "reality" - yikes for a measly .05; 3) that they would force, make and put a trusted, reliable customer (for over 30 years) through this kind of hoop-jumping torture. After 30 minutes on the phone with this financial institution, I've definitely learned a lesson. Truly ridiculous MY ADVICE: consider other financial institutions for your credit card needs. I've never encountered this type of twisted "customer service" from the folks at Chase. Maybe it's time to switch to only using them?! read more

Fantastic credit union offering everything one could need. From mortgages, to savings accounts, to free notaries (for members) and free document shredding (for members) their team has you covered. Their parking lot is huge and there are tons of shaded spots. Don't have time to walk in - use their drive through. There are frequently two staff members sitting near the front door to help guide you to your appointment or teller. Tellers are friendly and helpful (Rosa is my favorite) and their beverage machine is top notch. You can make anything from a flavored seltzer water, to a dove chocolate hot cocoa, to an espresso or tea. The machine actually suggested I ramp up my hot cocoa to a peppermint one - and suggested I add some peppermint tea - how creative. They are highly involved with the community sponsoring outdoor movie viewings and guiding you along through the seasons. Today I saw a map and guide for fall leaf peeping that even included suggested stops for food and shopping along the route. If you are looking for a place to hold your money or request money for a big purchase (ask for Chris Cullen - he's the best loan officer around) definitely check them out! read more

I am extremely disappointed with Elevation Credit Union. My vehicle was repossessed yesterday, and I made a good-faith effort to immediately pay my past-due payments. Instead of working with me or offering any reasonable solution, they refused to accept my late payments and demanded the full balance -- something that is simply impossible given today's economic conditions. On top of that, communication has been very poor. Many times the bank is closed, understaffed, or does not have proper personnel available to assist customers. It is very difficult to get clear answers or timely help when you need it the most. Right now, many financial institutions are working with their customers and offering options during these difficult times. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. I was willing and ready to resolve my account, but no opportunity was given. I expected better customer service, communication, and understanding from a credit union that claims to support its members. I would not recommend this institution or do business with them based on my experience. I will also be supporting upcoming laws in the State of Colorado that aim to bring more fairness and accountability to repossession practices, as situations like this highlight the need for better consumer protections. I hope they improve how they treat customers facing temporary hardship, because situations like this only make things worse for people trying to do the right thing. read more

Warning - for Foreign Wire Transfers, Elevations uses Chase Bank and Chase Bank puts a large commission on the actual exchange rate of the Federal Reserve. If you search on Chase, you will find "Chase uses its own foreign exchange rates for international wire transfers, which include a markup over the mid-market rate, meaning you receive less foreign currency for every U.S. dollar you send. These markups typically range from 2% to 7% and are less favorable than rates offered by specialist currency providers." My transfer of $10,000 had a commission of nearly $500 extra charged to me. read more

I had a secure line of $500, it was paid off and they wouldn't refund me -- stating they took my money and paid off the account -- that I paid for. what a joke. Also I tried to apply for a 1000 dollar loan while making 50,000 plus a year and was denied. Furthermore, they give off a racist karen vibe anytime you try to go into their branches. Furthermore, their app is stuck in 2010 and is the worst app. Always super slow for no reason. They never reply to your inquirys. I once lost my card and tried to cancel it on the app only to go into a branch and them telling me that the card was still active? The mortgage servicing department is automated to charge late fees and ding your credit... My payment was short by a small amount of $160. Instead of applying it toward my bill and which would have covered the interest and escrow, but 160 less towards principle, they instead put in a special account and claimed they did not receive payment, thus triggering a late fee and a credit ding. I attempted to resolve, but terrible service resulted even more problems. This was a result of a letter they had sent me stating my payment was less by 160 due to escrow being lower over all. Problem was the 160 less paid was made a month early, an honest mistake. If I were you, I would look else where for a mortgage, cause what seems positive to begin with will be problematic later on. I have stopped doing business with them after having an account with them for a long time. They do not care about you as a customer it all a numbers game - you are a number, not a customer. read more

I've had my business account with them for 13 yrs now. they changed their platform so many times and now, the new 'upgrade' doesn't work with QBO. i have to download my transactions and manually do coding. for a CPA practice this is unacceptable. When i was on the chat, the rep was basically like 'we sent you something saying this was going to happen now tough crap..' I'm super unhappy and now trying to figure out where to move my business to. I've recommended Elevations CU for so many years but no more. Their app is constantly having issues to where I couldn't make mobile deposits or even get online. Like tonight for instance, I can't even access my account. I was so surprised as my mother was aging, and I needed to step in to help handle her banking, vendors, and investments. She has had her accounts at Elevations since 1965 (back when it was U. of C. Federal Credit Union). You know, when football players played because they liked to play, not because they liked to be on stage and collect big #$'s. She has one of the lowest account numbers in the credit union. I have never heard her say anything negative about the credit union in the past 50 years. I have banked at many banks over the years. As I stepped in on my mother's behalf, I could not believe how easy they made it for me/us to set it up for me to handle remotely/online from California. Their online interface is so effective and simple that I can handle all transactions without contacting a single person. Yet when we were in the process of setting things up, we had someone readily available to handle all questions, offer solutions, and provide answers for all of our questions. Since I got involved, I have been asking myself, "why can't all banks make it this simple?". They have saved me soooo much time, I cannot believe it. I am now considering moving a portion of my personal and business banking over from the nationwide banks to this much smaller Colorado financial institution. Who knows, perhaps this Credit Union will be the "bait" causing me to move back to CO? BTW, we have been using the branch in Loveland. Can't beat the service...my mother, "little old lady" walks into the branch, she has no problem getting someone to hold her hand. I know full well the stressors that come with the industry on various levels, and the impact those stressors have on the employees who facilitate the day-to-day operations. I am also well aware that the head of a particular branch or office dictates the feel and flow of a place, and whether or not it is welcoming. Enter Lindsay Hendricks, branch manager of the Elevations Boulder Diagonal branch. From the moment she introduced herself she was the epitome of kind, patient, professional, and knowledgeable. She was of course very busy, as it was the Friday before a holiday weekend, but she took the time to walk me through the various options for my situation. Lindsay then connected me with the wonderful Diane Sawyer, also in the Diagonal branch. Apparently, kindness is a prerequisite to work here. As is a deep proficiency with the bank's impressive offerings, and a sincere desire to meet your financial needs. Diane is nothing short of a miracle worker. She took my highly complex situation and facilitated not only a workable solution, but one that far exceeded my expectations. I realize this all sounds over the top, but I assure you it's not. PLEASE stay away from this bank, it has cost me more time and money than I thought I would ever even spend here. Moved every dime to firstbank this morning. Horrendous, horrendous banking experience at elevations. It's honestly appalling to me how poorly the bank is run. Since they've switched to the new app/online system (same as before just different UI), 80% of the time I log in my account becomes locked and I have to reset my password, even when I enter the correct password. Prior to the new online system, I've had quite literally countless experiences where elevations has not allowed me to spend the money in my account. Automatic bill payments (that have worked for months or YEARS) are declined, spending limits are imposed on my cards and altered constantly without my approval or even awareness. I've called THREE times now when attempting to make a purchase on two separate cards, twice the employees kept me on hold, telling me they were looking into it, for 20-40 minutes until the "cards department" was closed, then told me I was out of luck until the next day. The other time, the employee told me my limit had been changed to allow the purchase, I re-attempted the purchase and my card was locked for attempting to surpass the limit. No I could not unlock the card, I needed to wait for them to send me a new one, which of course took forever. PLEASE stay away from this bank, it has cost me more time and money than I thought I would ever even spend here. Not to mention my brother's encountered fraud with his account 3 times now. read more

I went to the Boulder branch of Elevations and got help re-opening an account I hadn't used since starting a home loan several years ago. I was interested in rates and payment calculations - and my limit for a possible car loan. I have two banks I normally use for checking and bill paying, and I could've applied with one of them. Diane Sawyer, Senior Financial Solutions Guide at the Boulder Elevations, met with me on that first visit, and we scheduled an appointment the following week. This is what she does; she walks people through loan decisions, taking a lot more into account before a loan application is started and processed with credit checks. Unlike the "loan service" institutions that Nerd Wallet and others tout, this was not a blind application that results in a credit rating hit after "the pre-qualification" - which doesn't mean anything and is a waste of time. During the consultation with Diane, I looked at my whole picture, and I was given no marketing pitch for other products. We put together what it might look like for my notion of a home loan in a year, a personal loan sooner than a car and my credit limit. I came away deciding to put off the car loan for six months. I could see another priority and better timing regarding my credit score. I'll be back. Online "loan services" and a dozen calls from providers I do not know - - and my (national) checking and savings banks who try to sell me products when I sit down with them - - are over. I recommend having a no-fear, no-b.s. talk with Elevations - member or not - before looking online or at a for-profit, national. read more

I joined ECU 3 years ago when I moved to Colorado. I've been happy, no complaints until last week when I applied for an auto loan, through them. with a credit score of 733 they offered me a 10.75% interest rate!!! That's the appreciation and support I get for being a good customer. I never overdraft and typically have a significant balance. I also have a checking acct. We had a 6 year CD that was intended for my son to use for college in 2 years. It matured a month ago and auto renewed for another 6 years at a lower interest rate. When I inquired as to why I did not receive notification that it was maturing, I was told that it was my responsibility to sign up for the notification. How was I supposed to know this? I check that account every month, and there was not any sort of clue that I needed to do anything with the account. I finally noticed when I opened the "Details" tab and saw that it auto renewed. Now, my son cannot access the money without paying a penalty. When I explained that we would be taking our accounts elsewhere, the customer service agent simply said he was sad to see us go. We got a mortgage through them, was very very stressful. As we felt they were not going to have there stuff together in order to close on our house. Absolute crap. My card got deactivated for "suspicious activity" (I bought something from Amazon, how suspicious). Then I call to get it taken care of, and it's a bank holiday. Cool. I now don't get to have access to MY MONEY because some idiot decided to deactivate my card before a long weekend. Don't use them for anything. This isn't the first time this has happened. They also failed to deactivate the card when it was very obviously compromised (purchases made completely online in Louisiana, while simultaneously I was using the card in Colorado). If you like being able to use the money you've earned, get it all in cash and stuff it in your mattress. Completely unacceptable. read more

The bank implemented a new web & phone app but did not confirm we needed to update all our information, and until we did our accounts would be locked. My auto pays were halted until members on my account updated their info and uninstalled and reinstalled software. I only notice this after NSF. I've been with this Credit Union from when it was U Of C Credit Union. Since I was 17 years old and this place has gone down hill since. I've never had my account in bad standing. I had a situation where an account took money from my account and left me in the negative and I put it into positive the same day. Now I'm being punished for 6 months for, according to them, having a negative account? They are quick to punish but not so much to ask for a positive review or vote them the best. We've banked with the CU Credit Union 9now Elevations) for 36 years--home loan, auto loan and personal/business banking. They were great with Customer Service 2nd to none. New management has apparently initiated drastic cost cutting. with the result that Customer Service is now non-existent. We have left requests at the call centre for a return call--at least (10) times there has not been no return call. Elevations has won the "Race to the Bottom" and now ranks as the worst customer experience I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. Don't do business with Elevations Credit Union. I wanted to keep my money local, and avoid national equity loan companies, but probably would've been better off. You will have to manage them so much that you will get a W2 from them at the end of the year. - Right from the loan processing get-go, I had uploaded all my docs for a home equity loan, and I waited to hear back. I always start off with a company assuming that everyone is professional, and I don't need to babysit. I wait a little over a week because I always start out assuming a company is working on things in the background, and don't need me to babysit. So, after waiting and hearing nothing, I call and ask what the status is. "Just waiting on those documents from you, Ms. Armstrong!" The ones you got nine days ago??? Yep, the ones they got nine days ago, and have been sitting in their own system for nine days with nobody checking for them or contacting me at all. Nine days of just for no reason. What if I didn't call? How long would it take for you to notice? Holy cow. So closing was automatically pushed out by nine days because of company nap time or something. I've had closings pushed out for many reasons over the course of my life, but this was my first not-a-reason. Whatever, let's just get on track already. The rest of the loan process was okay, but I was irritated to find out (very late in the process) that the loan money could ONLY be put into an Elevations savings account which I was forced to open to complete the loan. Really did not want this account, but okay, whatever. I thought about ditching out of ECU then, but the loan was one document away from done. I asked how I could get this money into an account I actually have access to, and was assured that it would be very easy. - Loan Funding: First, I was told that my loan would be funded by "x" date. When I checked my account at like 10:00, it wasn't there. So I called, and the woman funding it was irritated and said that she hadn't "pushed the button" on it yet, and it's a "manual process", like I should know this already. -Loan Money Transferring to an Account That I Actually Have Checks/Card for, and Can Actually Use: It was most certainly NOT easy to move a large amount between two banks like I was assured. I got the two banks connected to make transfers between them just fine, but the cap on customer initiated transfers is $5,000...for both banks. I spent two hours on the phone that day with both ECU and USAA trying to just get my own money transferred to my own account without taking several days to do so. Wire transfer was the only option in which I either had to drive way out of my way to an ECU location (USAA is only in Texas or I'd much rather deal with them), or go fill out a wire transfer form in front of a notary and fax it. Either option was a time investment that was most certainly NOT easy, so they definitely lied about that. - Loan Payment: USAA sent the loan payment, and it has already been deducted from my account, but ECU has still not credited the payment to my loan, and I am fully prepared to loose my sh*t if I get hit with late charges or marks on my credit because they cannot seem to handle life. Had Michaela Hayes (not sure of the spelling) contact me saying they would send the refund I just needed to call and confirm my new address. I did so and still no refund. This has been my bank for the last 5 years and I can't say I've had any complaints whatsoever. The staff has always been helpful and the locations numerous. They used to be called U of C FCU which was a bit acronym-y (yup, just made that one up) if you ask me; I suppose the new Elevations name is trying to reach out to more people in the Boulder area beyond CU students. In any case, one of the great things about Elevations is their excellent on-line banking site which has all the features I've ever needed. Beyond this they also have a good number of free ATM's scattered all around Boulder and even in Colorado Springs near UCCS and DU. Another great thing I've noticed is that if I over-draw from my checking account, they automatically deduct the remainder from my savings free of charge. Now I've never over-drafted my account so I can't tell you what happens then. I do know however that the North Boulder location has a coin counter ($76 was the total last time I went in to deposit my coins). Another thing I really like is the easy accessibility of your money, and the easy ability to transfer funds between savings, checking, and credit card (my Visa is threw them and can be accessed at the same place on-line as my other accounts) on-line. Further, my girlfriend has a money market account so I know they offer these (which I think I will have to look into...) Nonetheless, I do have a few complaints: first, that the interest rate they offer on savings accounts is so low that it is not even worth it; and second, that I applied for an auto-loan twice and got rejected, first for not having a cosigner, and the second time for asking for too low an interest rate. The way it is set up is that they ask you what interest rate you want to pay and for how long then decide whether that is reasonable or not. I guess I was being too ambitious, I'm not sure. In any case, I know as a former student that my credit history is pretty minuscule so I can't complain too much. Still, overall They've done almost everything I've needed or wanted, so good job Elevations. read more
