Awesome place to get some last minute gear if you're hiking in the area. I needed to grab gaiters, gloves, and snowshoes after seeing the recent weather on Whitney and this store provided everything. The staff were extremely friendly and also provided me with the most recent weather reports allowing me to be prepared for my trip.

Scored this cool hat! Definitely deserve this hat after the climb!!! I love it!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND STOPPING BY THIS STORE PRIOR TO YOUR OUTDOOR ADVENTURES! I started contacting John prior to our trip to Mt. Whitney. My husband and I would call him for gear advice and necessities. He was very helpful and knowledgeable; he is very responsive and very open to answer any questions we had! Once we got to the store, he was not there, but his staff knew we were coming! His staff, Max & Nadia, were very helpful, they were able to help us find the right gear, give us advice and tips! He kept us in contact and also called us afterwards to ask how our climb to Mt Whitney went! We will definitely recommend this store to our friends!

First observation: this place *seems* to be open much later than the hours on Yelp (there are no hours posted, that I could see). We rolled into town at 8:30pm on a Saturday and were shocked to see an "OPEN" sign lit up and the door propped open! This place has "old school" customer service in the best way possible. What do I mean by that? I mean the staff are well-educated, passionate about their jobs, and are dedicated to serving you the best way they can. Ask them an open-ended question and they will gently help you arrive at a specific answer. They've also got some great climbing gear in here. Anything you might need to crag in the Alabama Hills or climb the rock routes on Mt Whitney. (we picked up some micro-spikes for descending the Moutnaineer's Route) Prices are a little expensive, but this is a remote area right next to Mt Whitney, it makes sense!

I would like to thank the staff that helped my husband pick out a new pair of hiking pants to climb Mount Whitney. The ones that he ended up picking got a lot of compliments along the hike and on our Instagram pics. I wish I remembered the gentleman's name who helped him. He gave several options when I said a nice pair that doesn't break the bank. lol. Thank you for your help that day. The pants really came in handy when we bagged that peak!

We went into this store a few times while we were in Lone Pine for 4 days. The first time was to browse, and the other times we were looking for specific things. The store has everything a hiker or climber would ever need, but it also seems they mark up their prices a little. Lots of name brand goods, like Patagonia, Marmot. When I was there they also had microspikes for $69.99.... which are cheaper than the ones I bought from REI, but then again, REI has a really good return policy. We ended up purchasing a pair of long underwear which turned out to be $90 for the pair... a bit steep. But they were a pair of merino wool ones. Anyways, if you need any last minute things, you can buy it here.... for a price.

The owner, John, was the most kind and caring outdoors salesman I have ever met. He went the extra mile to help me find some insoles that would help with my first thru-hike since I have very high arches. He was extremely knowledgeable and had his best interest in helping me and all my friends find what we needed. His passion is to get people out doors. I definitely will be back, a lot of variety for gear as well!! Thank you, John!!!

This shop is awesome. On the corner of the only street light in Lone Pine which leads you directly down Whitney Portal road. Not sure who we chatted with but this guy was very friendly and full of great advice for making a Whitney climb. These small businesses in small towns like this are so essential. They sell the very best gear of all kinds, salomans, patagonia etc. The guy recommended a very useful supplement to put in a bladder to supplement hydration and replenish sugars and salts. Stop by, especially if plan on hiking Whitney.

On a recent trip to Death Valley we discovered we did not have enough fuel for my backpack stove. So I trusted my fellow Yelpers and visited Elevation. We were greeted by John the owner (I think). He explained that the jet boil fuel would work with my Soto as the threads are now the same on all the canisters. Location is a great advantage here as the tiny store is right on the corner of 395 & Whitney Portal Road. yes I said tiny but that doesn't mean it is not chock full of any item you might need to go out on a trip. I'm pretty sure even if you are in the Bay Area he can get that product to you cheaper and quicker than some of the big box stores. After selecting our purchases we chatted with him about his business and how there is no visible markup on his product all the way out in Lone Pine compared to other businesses in the city. Surprising since he does practically have a monopoly on the hikers and climbers heading to Whitney and points S, W, & N but it was not evident. John was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed talking with him.

Just bought this Patagonia mid layer & OR outer shell here at Elevation!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the great assistance and information provided by Mike and Sarah Re: gear. (FYI - They have tons of variety for your outdoor needs AND even have a climbing wall and gym) Purchasing the Leki trekking poles and renting the Snowline microspike/crampons $6/day was FABULOUS! With my poles and the microspikes I felt like an invincible SpiderGirl walking up and down hard packed snow and ice! I LOVED the hike to Blue Lake SO much, I hiked it twice in a row!!! YUP! I'm talking 2 days SAME trail! One of my all time FAV hikes and I've hiked in Patagonia, South Island NZ, Canadian Rockies, etc. If you want some hiking fun at this time of year, drop by Sage to Summit! Buy your trekking poles and rent your microspikes! Totally worth it! I'm thinking of hiking this trail one more time it is THAT cool to hike thru packed snow and ice with those microspikes. FYI - Hike to Blue Lake is about 7.15 miles RT based on how much exploring you want to do! Luckily, I hiked in twice in a row to shoot some photos in different sections. It's a HUGE lake and unfortunately, I don't like waking up early, so still wasn't able to hike further to the middle of the lake area due to lack of daylight hours at this time of the year. Thanks Mike and Sarah! I will return to your shop and recommend you guys too! :0)
