I came here during COVID. I really liked the selection of rocks and crystals that they have at this small mom and pop shop. I ended up buying a few things. I wanted to buy more but the lady behind the counter had an attitude and I was not sure why. I'm sure she wasn't aware of her demeanor but it was very unwelcoming and condescending. She also couldn't answer any of the questions I had about the crystals. I wanted to know what the stone my worry stones were made out of but she was unsure. I had a few other questions too but she had no answers to any of them. I also did not like how she spoke badly of the workers in the Alabama Hills Cafe. That left a bad impression on me. I also paid two visits to this shop hoping she was just having a bad day but both days were the same. I appreciated their set-up to keep people 6 feet apart. There were also signs on the door stating to use hand sanitizer and to wear a mask. Overall, I probably wouldn't return due to the customer service. However, their products are reasonably priced. Pay a visit if you're in the area and don't care for good customer service. Their shop is clean. read more

Stay away! Unless you want to be treated like crap by the crabby older lady that works there! Me and my wife walked into this store, all ready to by a bunch of souvenirs. (This was around the time of the whole covid thing.) I noticed that the man working behind the counter was not wearing a mask, and the store was completely empty, not a soul in the store. So, since the guy working there didn't seem concerned about wearing a mask, and the store was completely empty of other customers, we did not put on our masks either. Well, a little while later, this crabby lady that works there walked up to me and my wife and somewhat angrily asked us to put on our masks, even though the store was completely empty and she was at least 15 feet away from us. So, we put on our masks right away. Then, I just tried to nicely explain to her why we didn't have our masks on, telling her that when we walked in we saw a guy working at the cash register not wearing one so we assumed it wasn't a big deal. Then she YELLED "he is the owner!, and "you assumed?!". Then she yelled "can I help you?!, can I help you?!" . Then she started hovering over my wife as if to make sure she wasn't stealing anything. I'm sure this crabby old wench is driving customers away. She has no business working in a retail environment dealing with customers with a horrible attitude like that. We were about to stock up on a bunch of souvenirs, but walked out after we were treated like such crap for no good reason. There are several other little mom and pop shops across the street that sell much of the same things this place does, and for less money. This place is overpriced too! I've traveled to lone pine many times over these last few years. Never have I stopped at this gem shop, now I see I should have read the reviews before going. I had issues with the same older woman many others had issues with. Upon entering the store there was nothing posted saying masks were required. This wasn't the issue, but right when I entered and said hello the rude older woman working there snapped at us to put a mask on. I found this to be very funny because she was NOT wearing a mask herself. The irony. After this i completely lost my desire to be in the store. She ruined my experience. for those going here just be wary of this woman as she seems having a horrible time for her to be so rude to everyone. read more

This store had a nice little selection of rocks, jewelry and gifts, but unfortunately the shopping experience was ruined by the atrocious lack of customer service and rude/impatient demeanor of the older lady who was working there. She said her name was "Jean" when I asked her, but I wouldn't be surprised if she lied about that. My friends and I came in here twice, once on the way to our destination, and once on the way back. I gave her the benefit of the doubt the first time in, perhaps this lady was having a bad day & wasn't aware of how rude she was. The second time in solidified the fact that she is an absolutely abhorrent and rude individual. The first trip in, my friends and I walked around browsing. I was particularly interested in the crystals. I asked to see some in the case. She looked perturbed that I had disturbed her to open the case at all. I wanted to take a look at several different pieces of obsidian to see which I liked best. She was utterly annoyed that I wanted to see the different pieces and said, "They're all black you know." Yes lady, obviously they're all black, they are all obsidian! I wanted to see which one was the best quality and feel the weight of each piece in my hand. I chose my piece and cont. to look around the shop. I found two more pieces I wanted to look at and again, she didn't even hide the fact that she was again troubled to have to offer us some customer service (shocker, this is your job lady!) I decided to wait on purchasing another piece, as it was pricier so I wanted to think on it (plus the lady again, did not want to be bothered with having to wait on a customer-again, this is your job by definition lady). When checking out, I asked a simple question about the red and black obsidian pieces & what the red coloring was, to which she said "I don't know. If you have a smart phone, you can look it up yourself!" I was flabbergasted at her utter rudeness and lack of helpfulness. All you have to say is, "so sorry, but I'm not too sure." Again, this is your job lady. The second time we went in on the way back, we had to wait for her to come back from her lunch break. She arrived at the store finally, at which point we got up to enter the store too and she said, "I'm not open yet, I'll come out and grab you when I'm ready for you to come in." My friend and I just looked at each other and were like, okkkkkk. She came out and let us in and we took a look around. I saw a beautiful silver bangle the first time I was there & wanted to find out more about it. I asked her "How much is the silver bangle?" She said "WHAT?" I said, "How much is this silver bangle here?" To which she replied, "I CAN'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING YOU'RE SAYING." At which point I had to repeat myself a third time. She said "$70.....I think." She didn't even offer to check and see if that was the actual price or open up the case. Five minutes later, she asked if I wanted to see it. I just thought to myself, a little late to be offering that now lady. I told her no thank you. I was planning on buying the expensive crystal I was looking at the first time I came in but decided against it because of how absolutely harsh and unpleasant she had been on both occasions. "Jean", if that's her real name should learn the meaning of customer service. It completely turned me off to the whole store, my friends included who also witnessed and had to deal with her rude, callous behavior. This place is a nice little store but will lose a lot of sales with someone like her running the counter. She offers no help and is put off by being asked basic questions and requests for assistance around the store. This is your job. If you are so exasperated and bitter at having to perform your daily work duties, perhaps it's time to retire. She was awful and will drive a lot of business away which is unfortunate. I recently went through Lone Pine, CA, and stopped at this store to look at rock specimens. I found the selection was amazing and the prices were very reasonable. I had a wonderful time except for one thing. It was so hard to pick out what to buy. I spent an hour there and had to force myself to get back on the road. I came away with 8 fantastic specimens, well worth the stop. The nice lady in the store was very patient with me. I would recommend this store to any traveling rockhound. They also have a nice gift area to keep the non-rockhounds in your group busy while you pick out your specimens. All-in-all a great experience! read more

The perfect place to get all of your souvenirs! Don't let the name fool you, this place has all types of souvenirs. Yes, there are plenty of rocks and minerals to purchase, but they also carry jewelry, toys, magnets, etc. This shop is in the heart of downtown Lone Pine and very close to restaurants and other hot spot locations. I've been in many crystal shops throughout the world, and I can say without hesitation this is the best. The prices are amazing. Example: an amethyst crystal weighing the same is $195 in my local shop, and here is $45. They also have a variety that is unparalleled. I repeat: unparalleled. Specimens I've never seen. Should you pass through the charming desert hamlet of Lone Pine, don't miss a chance to stop at this lovely little shop, and say hi to its fantastic proprietors, Margaret and John, roughly the nicest people in the entire world (this past trip also had a nice local high school student working the counter. Be good to her). Why stop here? Well, they've got all the local postcards and books and t-shirt you could want, plus, frankly, all the rocks and minerals are freakin' COOL. Bought a big ol' geode in the shop, and the high-schooler put it through a nifty giant saw blade that sliced it cleanly in half. If only all co-called "gift shops" had high-powered saws, this would be a better world. So, the skinny: cute shop, lots of nifty stuff, and let's be honest - you need to make a stop somewhere in Lone Pine before hightailing it down the last, barren part of the 395 on your way back from Mammoth to L.A. It's normal for me to come to a screeching halt when I see a sign for a rock shop. So glad I did. This place was chock FULL of a huge variety of rocks for every collector at every price. Petrified wood, gemstones, fossils, big crystal formations, and local specimens to name a few. I couldn't believe how great the prices were on some of that stuff. They also have a wide selection of books on local history, rocks/minerals, mining/rock hounding, Native American history, and children's stories. My pit stop lasted a lot longer than I expected. The staff was SO sweet! I could have hung out all day. Being a great conversationalist must be a requirement for employees here. They have some awesome explorer-like hats, cool shoes and moccasins, t-shirts, and other touristy stuff that one might get if you're staying in the area. I've passed through here a few times wanting to stop in here because I'm a rock and mineral collecter. Finally I got the chance to stop in when they were open. They have a wide range of gifts other than rocks and minerals. Incense, pottery, books, t-shirts, etc. Their rock and minerals are mostly from local mines in Death Valley, and some are collected from years and years ago which I was impressed to know. All differs price ranges from small to very large pieces. A children's area of smaller & lower priced items. drove down all the way from bishop because I heard this place had tools and some expert local knowledge about rockhounding in the area. they do have a few tools, but no knowledge at all. sadly only one inadequate guidebook for the area although I have heard there is a better one. salesclerk was ditsy totally unhelpful. If you have children with you, don't bother stopping here. The storekeeper was unfriendly and just plain rude to our group of three families. Ridiculous.
