When I called the number that a neighbor gave me, Daniel Van Auken was eager to come over…read moreimmediately and look at my floors. I really thought that it was a good sign. I thought that I would get personal service from Wood Tech. He showed up the next afternoon and was very professional . . . at first. He told me all about his business so I got a brief look into the young company. I told Dan what I wanted and then he started to get all flirty with me. It was very unprofessional but I figured it was all part of his sales pitch. What I really didn't like was when he tried to up-sell me over what I needed. He wanted to do more square footage and go with his premium package. He suggested that I have areas of wood flooring refinished that no other wood floor refinishing company would touch. I had done my research and talked to a few other companies before Dan, so I told him flat out what I wanted and nothing more. He gave me a verbal quote on price per square foot and I was happy with the numbers (he was in the ballpark for what I was looking to spend). He told me that I would have something from him later that day. Unfortunately, I had to wait a couple weeks to get the price quote. I reminded him several times that I was waiting for his bid. That should have been my clue to lose his number but his initial numbers were good and his time to complete the work was attractive. Each time I asked him to send over his estimate, I received an apology and an excuse that was either redundant, too personal or both. When I finally did get the quote, he had changed the scope of the work to the up-sell (which was about six times my budget). There was no mention of what I had talked to him about what I wanted done. I told him that this is not what I wanted nor what I needed. I wanted an estimate for what I asked him to do for me. A week later, he finally did get me a quote for the work that I wanted but again it was more expensive (per square foot) than what he had verbally quoted me a month earlier. I again asked him about it and then Tanya Van Auken chimed in. She said that if I wanted a written quote for the work that _I_ wanted done that I was not the company for them. WOW!! I went back to my neighbor and they did get the up-sell by Wood Tech as well. They didn't do their research and unfortunately they did buy Wood Tech's Kool-Aid. He was all about the getting one time business and not keeping customers. I don't see him being around very long. Needless to say, I went with another company. PLEASE SHOP AROUND!!

Installation had some snags that were not the fault of AWS, but a result of odd construction at our townhome. The installation was performed in an obviously competent manner, which giving us needed assurance that we'd not encounter any problems later. That need was due to our experience with the other blinds company in the area. It earlier came out to measure the same windows but then lapsed inexplicably into utter silence. We never obtained a quote, nor did its employees even return our calls or texts. By contrast, Peninsula Window Coverings was entirely professional.
