They asked about my particular concerns, and answered all of my newbie questions with practical answers, and I always felt respected. The inspection report was long and thorough, with pictures and a summary of the most important issues they found. Based on what they knew about my new neighborhood, they strongly recommended radon testing and were able to get it done within the short inspection window. I'm so glad they did, because is significant radon, and I was able to get mitigation scheduled for shortly after closing. My follow-up call to the office went well, also. They clearly have a healthy organizational culture of respect and customer service. The only thing I would have changed about their service is that I wish they had worn masks to the inspection---but that seems to be a general culture problem in TC, so I'm not taking any stars off for it.

Since we were not local, there were a million small decisions that he had to make along the way, but he always reached out to discuss anything he needed our input on. His attention to detail was amazing. Basically - he sweats the small stuff. He would have very detailed conversations with the finish carpenter, for example, on exactly how to finish out the stairs and banisters to give the best look. It shows. There is truly nothing left to chance. Considerations: We did go quite a bit over the original quoted amount, but very rarely was it due to something that we did not request. For example, we did end up having to get footing drains because they encountered clay instead of just sand. That was an unexpected (minor) increase. But all the other overages were because Kevin made a good-faith estimate on the materials and labor for each line item, and then we chose more expensive materials, or more complex selections. We added a bathroom, added under-deck ceilings, upgraded the banisters, etc. None of these were decided at the point of the original estimate, so they weren't considered at that time. We did also go considerably over the original estimated time. Ours was a considerably larger home than his usual project, so I do think he struggled a bit to estimate the time to complete - even once we were under construction. Part of the delay was due to waiting for his preferred sub-contractors to be available. He has specific subs that he knows and trusts will do the best work. So, if his preferred painter was busy on another job, we had a delay. There were some cases where he brought in additional subs (such as for our drywall), to make progress more quickly. But for finish carpentry, painting, etc, he would only use the best. And we agreed. The results are fantastic, and worth the wait. We plan to use him again, and would highly recommend him to anyone considering a custom built home.

The bad: Construction that was supposed to take 10 months took 22. We spoke to others who have been under construction for over 2 years. We still have things that need to be fixed or done right but cannot get a response. The construction went almost 50% over budget. This was a formerly excellent builder who is overbooked and way behind. I'd find someone else unless you are willing to invest years of your life waiting.
