We have been fans of Dumesh for years and after a sad day watching our friends bury their son headed there for some Indian comfort food. Well we missed the buffet so they referred us up to Elephant Walk a sister location because their buffet was open longer so off we go Well traffic and parking we didn't make it for the buffet again. Well we were pissy I'm not proud but just weren't nice Our server was very sweet and gracious and our meal was fantastic nan and curry to warm the soul. She knew we weren't happy so the next thing we know the owner came out to check on us and apologize. Ok at this point the manners my mama raised me with kicked in and having someone be so nice I started blubbering like an idiot. It had been a rough day! Food is fantastic! The servers are good, but the kitchen struggles when the seating is over half full. The kitchen failed to tell our waiter that a certain type of naan bread was unavailable. I couldn't even get a full tray of rice with my Lamb Tikka Masala, it was basically half full. The portions seems to be smaller and smaller each time we come. Rude waitress. Got there around 4:30. Her shift ended at 5 so she was literally rushing me and my friend. She brought the check like 5 minutes after we started eating. Asked if we want a box when we clearly JUST STARTED eating. Didn't ask if I wanted another drink or dessert. We are somewhat snobbish when it comes to curry, and for the longest time swore by Shaan in Hyde Park- and still do- but then there's Elephant Walk! The Ethiopian dishes are well-crafted and flavorful, in particular the atakilt wat. The doro tibs (sort of a barbecue/fajita-type dish) are delicious and I can't get enough injera bread (as someone mentioned earlier, they do have a habit of running out.) But the Indian dishes are superb! Simply the most flavorful saag paneer and tikka masala around! I can go on, but suffice it to say I highly recommend Elephant Walk for a flavor experience above the rest! The buffet is two thumbs up! read more

Like most of the reviews the food was excellent but the service...... Not so much. First of all my wife ordered a fresh Mango juice which had to be made by hand. They said they were working on it but as more people entered the restaurant they were magically out of the ingredients. She then ordered an alcoholic beverage but the manager was the only one old enough to make it. Then our food came and my wife didn't even have a drink. Our server was nowhere to be found. Fortunately one of the other servers saw that my wife didn't have a drink and offered to help. They eventually offered to comp her a beer but by then we were ready to leave. I had originally planned on going to Emanu but after driving over, they were closed for the holiday season. I think it was a divine intervention though because Elephant Walk was great. I went during lunch so I can only speak to experiences during that time. We originally started out with solely wanting Ethiopian food so after browsing the menu, the waiter informed us that they have a $10.99 lunch special going on which includes a glass of Sangria. What a great deal! You had access to a more limited menu of both Indian and Ethiopian dishes including salads and dessert. The Sangria was fantastic too! I don't know if I would return during dinner time solely because I thought their prices were a little on the high side for the quality but I would definitely go when I'm looking for a more exotic lunch choice again for sure. read more

Love this place! I moved here from New York City a few months ago, and was so excited to find an ethiopian restaurant to replace my favorite NYC spot. Both their Ethiopian and indian menus are great -- I'm vegan and gluten free and there were so many delicious things to choose from! Their vegan ethiopian platter is always a good choice, which is served on top of traditional teff injera, a spongy and slightly sour fermented bread. Traditionally you're supposed to eat everything with your hands which makes it a fun experience! I come here with my meat eating boyfriend and we both always leave full and happy. The staff is always so kind and accommodating too. Definitely recommend coming here for a flavor packed, healthy and yummy meal! read more

Yum. Yum. Yum. We have ordered off the menu and had the lunch buffet. The lunch buffet had an amazing amount of Indian and Ethiopian items to choose from. If you are hesitant about trying here, the lunch buffet is the way to go, because you can sample a large variety of food. The Ethiopian bread is unique and something to try. The dishes are spiced nicely and very delicious. If you order off the menu, the staff will make suggestions based on what you like. Take their advice. This was the first time my husband and I had been to Elephant Walk and we were pretty happy with it. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We were undecided what to order at first. We both love Indian food, but he had never tried Ethiopian. So, we went with the Ethiopian meat lover combo for 2. It came with cod fish dullet (sort of a fish stew), lega tibs (beef cubes with onions and tomatoes), and key wot (spicy beef stew). We could get it spicy from 1-6. We ordered a 4. I thought it would've been moderately spicy, but had no heat at all. Next time we'll definitely be getting a 6. Everything was excellent though! We ordered dessert. Of course, they were out of the gulab jaman (fried cheese balls) that I wanted, but I ordered kheer (rice pudding) instead. I was not disappointed! It was creamy and delicious. My husband got the kulfi (Indian mango ice cream). It was not like regular ice cream, but more of a frozen mango ice. It was super tasty! Let me start off by saying that the place was nice and the service was excellent. Our waitress was very sweet and helpful. Now I can't speak for their indian menu, although it seems to be very popular and I'm sure its good. The Ethiopian menu had a decent variety and we were excited to try it. We make it a point to have Ethiopian everywhere we travel. We ordered the kitfo and the mushroom tibs. They tasted nothing like any Ethiopian food I've had (and I've had quite a bit all over the country). The food wasn't necessarily bad, it just definitely didn't taste right for us. Perhaps it was the indian influence that blew the spices off sync for me, but it just wasn't a place I would go to again for Ethiopian food. It was okay. The samosas were good. We also got fried mushrooms for an appetizer which weren't at all fried, they were curried with onions and green peppers. Good, but not what we were expecting when we ordered something labeled as fried mushrooms. Elephant Walk was delicious! My friends and I ordered combo platters to get a broad sampling of dishes. My favorites were the two lentil dishes from the veggie combo. Yummy! Overall, the flavors were slightly less intense than I've had before - but I only ordered a 2 on the 6pt hotness scale. I'll try a 4 next time. The restaurant was very clean and the servers were attentive and professional. Our food arrived quickly and injera refilled promptly. Great, authentic food for a reasonable price. They have both Indian and Ethiopian food, though I've only had their Ethiopian food. I know some people have complained about the "authenticity" of their single serving meals coming out in a bowl with the bread on the side, but the big platter served on Injera is done more for family-style eating and less individually, so quit your whining. That being said, the combo platters are a GREAT deal if you're eating with a few people willing to share. We had the one meant for 3-4, and it would easily feed 4-5 people and was only $30, and they were happy to accommodate our substitutions. They also have half price wine bottles for happy hour. I will start off with a positive, the food was good. But everything else was horrible. Came in as an 8 top but there was two other tables sat in the restaurant. We waited for an hour and a half to be served when the two other tables were served and checked out before we got our food. When we were served, only 5 of us got the food and it took 20 minutes for the other 3 to get their food. There was no communication that the food would take longer than normal. When we asked to talk to a manager there was none and not even the owner was present. Poor management was the number one cause of everything. One cook on staff for a Sunday and no manager or owner to handle situations like this. read more

Authentic Ethiopian food in Cincinnati. I don't think there are many Ethiopian places here. My husband and I visited on a Saturday night to try out some delicious food. I love that they also have Indian cuisine at the restaurant. I forgot the name of the dish my husband ordered, but it was ground beef mixed with exotic spices and scallions. He really loved it. It came with injera bread. I did the veggie combo platter and loved everything in it. It had lentils and veggies, cooked very clean and healthy. I love the fact that they have an open kitchen. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. I have been here twice and had a good experience both times. My server was friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. There are plenty of menu items to choose from and some more adventurous dishes to try as well. The prices aren't bad for the quality and presentation of the food, and it is a nicer restaurant. Bottles of wine are half off at a certain time, great place for a date, we even had candles on the table. Something that is noteworthy is that their bathroom was pristine and clean which says a lot (to me at least.) read more

We went here because my wife loves Ethiopian food. It's probably her favorite food ethnicity. We split the Maheberawi/Meat and Veggie Combo with a friend of ours. It contains 9 different items. We had it served "traditionally" which means it came on a large silver tray that sat on the table between us. On the tray was a large piece of of injera bread and the 9 different foods were served on this piece of injera. It was a great presentation and a lot of fun to skip the forks and spoons and just use the bread as a utensil. The food was good, the best/only Ethiopian food we've had so far in Cincinnati. Sadly it fell far short of our favorite Ethiopian place, a hole-in-the-wall in Upstate NY. We ordered the combo with a spice level of 3 (their levels range 1-6, with 6 being hottest) which was perfect for us, maybe even a little too hot for my wife. Beyond the level of 'spicy heat' we both felt that the flavors of the various dishes were far too bland, at least compared to what we'd experienced from other experiences with Ethiopian food. The service was good but definitely done at a leisurely pace. From the time we were seated to the time the server brought us our checks we had been there for over 2.5 hours. Not how we had planned to spend our afternoon on a beautiful spring day. Overall, if you haven't had Ethiopian food, it's definitely worth trying and Elephant Walk is a reasonable intro to it. On the Indian side of the menu the food we ordered met expectations much better than the Ethiopian food had. A friend of ours ordered and shared one of the lamb dishes and it was great. Won't be coming back here because there are comparable Indian places much closer to our house, but if you live in the UC area, Elephant Walk is worth trying especially any Indian dish that comes with a curry. read more

Great addition to the ethnic food list. We had had a lot of Ethiopian food when we lived in Chicago, and this is a pretty good comparison. I wish the injera was a little tangier, but it does it's job. I wish they had a better way to do a combo plate for 2 people. I've been here twice. The first time I got the samosas on the appetizer section. The sauce that came with it was deliciously spicy. The next time I went there I got a chicken tiki masala that canes with a generous helping of rice and some naan for around $10-$15. This was enough for lunch and dinner for a day for me. I tried the level 7 spicy and I was expecting more of a kick to it. It was a little less spicy than Sriracha sauce. Can't wait to go back again and see what the 10 tastes like. read more
