I cannot say enough great things about this lodge. They offer comfy and cozy, pet-friendly cabins ranging from single bed rooms to large, family style beds and bunks. My mother and I have stayed here a handful of times and it has always been a pleasant experience. They go above and beyond for their guests and I look forward to visiting them again. We happened upon them by accident while we drove from California to Minnesota. My mother promised I could go horseback riding in Yellowstone, but everything was booked. As we left the park, we found Elephant Head 14 miles east of the entrance. They offered luxurious accommodations, home-cooked meals and trail rides. We ended up staying a couple nights. The second time we passed by we were able to snag a great deal on top of our AAA discount and wound up booking a room for two nights and then extended it another two nights. This trend continued a couple more times over the years and I've come to the conclusion that I either need to get a great job that will allow me the time and money to return or I need to apply for a summer job with them. read more

I wish we would of looked at the reviews on google and not just here before staying. We called to let owner know we wouldn't be there till late due to a storm in ND on way. We arrived between 10-11 that night and while she was there to check us in, I was given an interrogation before she gave me the cabin information. 30 minutes of rudeness after being on the road all day was not appreciated. She wanted to know where from, where going, who with, why 2 cars, why the trip and on and on. Look if you want a background check on guests then do not do online booking! When finally she gave me the information she then said I didn't need a key and when I asked why and please be more specific on where cabin was other than the porch light was on, she really got snappy. And just to be petty and passive aggressive, "I hope you saw the gas station you passed on the way here it was the last one" seriously!!!! If there had been anywhere else to stay or it had been warmer we would of slept in cars. Was the cabin clean, yes. Did I care at that point other than let's sleep for few hours and get the hell away from here, no! Being watched the next morning was the best, read my sarcasm. Wow just wow read more

If you are planning a trip to Yellowstone, or will be passing through the area, this is the place you want to stay. I recommend you allow at least three days, because once you are there you won't want to leave. It's amazing how just going up their short drive off the highway you instantly feel complete separation from all the hustle and bustle in the world. You will be surrounded by trees and will find charming cabins with everything required for comfort and relaxation. While staying here you can go hiking and fishing, take trail ride on the horses they keep, socialize with fellow guests in the lodge, or just kick back and relax in your private cabin. They have different sizes available, some with kitchenettes. They have their own restaurant where you can have breakfast and dinner or have a bag lunch prepared for when you want to go out exploring or on one of their trail rides. Located close to Cody Wyoming, and just 12 miles from the East Gate of Yellowstone Park, it is much more pleasant to stay here and travel into the park for sightseeing than to stay in the overly crowded and expensive park facilities. Elephant Head Lodge got its start in 1910; obviously, they have been getting it right for a long time. This is a family-run business and they make you feel welcome and right at home. They will do all they can to accommodate their guests and pets are welcome. Since accidentally discovering this place years ago it became one of our favorite spots in the world and a must go every chance we got. read more

We just spent a wonderful two days here. It was just what we were looking for! It's a scenic 12 mile drive to Yellowstone and we stopped to take pictures of this bison walking along the shoulder one day. So cool! The lodge owner, Debby, is so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We really enjoyed her staff, as well -- especially Noah. The meals were very good and they offer sack lunches if you plan to be out for the day. The water is so fresh. It comes from a spring on the property. Oh, there was a bear and a buffalo on site one morning. The big horn sheep are around quite often. BTW, there's no internet and the only tv is in the bar/lounge which is just how we wanted it. We're hoping to make this a yearly excursion and miss our little cabin already. Oh, I forgot to mention how good the bacon is. Everyone in the dining room was talking about it. While on a road trip through the Dakotas, we decided on a side trip to Yellowstone on our way back home to Colorado. We decided that we wanted to skip typical chain hotel/motels and try to stay in cabins or quaint properties as much as possible. We read the yelp reviews on the Elephant Head Lodge and were a bit leery of staying in a place that potentially had rodents climbing on us as we slept (based upon comment of another reviewer). We couldn't figure out why the place still got three stars-as truthfully, that would put it at NO stars for me. The other reviews were very good so we decided to take a chance. Thankfully, I can report no issues of rodents or evidence thereof in our cabin (and we did look!) We arrived late but were able to find our cabin. It was very small but perfect for a cute place to stay. There was no tv but a nice selection of books. The next morning we went to the restaurant on property and had a very nice breakfast. The waitresses were sweet and chatty and the decor was perfectly ranch/cowboy. We were not there long enough to see what else the place had to offer- but, it is a unique place. If you are heading to the park EHL is a great place to check out. Don't forget to look for the rock formation that inspired the name! read more

We stayed at the Stable Cabin on our trip to Yellowstone. On a positive note, the cabin was very nice, beds were comfortable, and there was plenty of room for our group. The downside was that we were there for 5 nights, and when we got there, the corral for the horses, which was just outside our cabin, was full of poop. It was never cleaned in the 5 days we were there. So we had to keep the windows closed to keep the smell out. The kitchen was under stocked for cooking, which was one of our main reasons for staying in a cabin instead of a motel. The pans were old Teflon with the Teflon peeling off. There were no sharp knives. The stove wouldn't start without matches, and they weren't provided. Overall, it would be a nice place to stay, but they need to step it up on cleaning the corral, and provide more pans, knives, etc., for the kitchen if people want to cook their meals there. read more

Elephant Head has wonderful log cabins, some are tiny with one full size bed and a small area for luggages and some are spacious and well appointed with several sleeping options from pull outs, to bunkbeds, twins, full size beds and kitchenettes. The restaurant has excellent food and a cozy western ambiance. Lots of stuffed animal heads as you would expect. There are hiking trails that start from the resort, a playground for the kids, and horseback riding stables right on the premises. They are dog friendly too. There have been bear sightings and other wildlife on the grounds. It's truly a Yellowstone experience without all the crowds in the park's lodging options. My only complaint which I don't think is unique to this place is they have a rodent problem. Any time you have cabins in the woods with doors open and in close proximity to the stables this is bound to happen. The problem is these are not just cute little mice. These are big, fat, brazen mice that crawl into your bed and up in your crotch! Even if you aren't particularly bothered by rodents it will at the very least disturb a good nights sleep. To the managers credit, we were issued a full refund for what was a very pricey reservation; there were seven people in all. I recommend they rescue some good ol' country cats, they make great mousers or bring your own traps. They have some under the beds so be careful when you reach under there thinking you misplaced an item! Anyhow, hope you can enjoy it here, some in our group couldn't cope, remember you are in the wilderness! read more
