And Topping on the cake of course was the exam by Heather Williams, CNM,WHNP and i will tell you i couldnt have been more pleased. Kind and professional and the first full exam i have had without any pain. She was patient allowed time for questions and concerns and was sincerely flattered that i thanked her. What a great experience considering the topic....lol. I would recommend them to anyone!!! Oh and i did promise Carol that although i did not have interaction with her for the appointment i would not leave her out she was at the front desk and seemed very kind.

I switched to this place from a traditional OBGYN practice at 34 weeks, and I couldn't be more…read morethrilled with that decision. I was very unsatisfied with the care at my OB and absolutely dreading the idea of delivering at a hospital and having to fight tooth and nail to have my birth plan and bodily autonomy be respected. From the beginning, the team at Urban Midwifery/New Phase at the Birth Nest made me feel excited, secure, and prepared to give birth. They took so much extra time to comb over my nutrition, test results, and to give me realistic advice on how to achieve a natural, unmedicated birth and successful lactation. if you are used to the care at an OB, I cannot stress enough how wildly different this would be. Appointments are over an hour, you are supported and respected, and the midwives are honest and frank without being remotely fear mongering. If you are low risk and have any desire to have an unmedicated, physiological birth, try this lovely practice! You won't regret it. I recently had a successful, glorious, out-of-hospital natural birth with my first child and it is the highlight of my life. Birth is NOT scary. You CAN do it. Don't listen to our culture's fear around this topic. If I can help it, I'll never step foot in an OBGYN's office again. The ladies here are so wonderful, from the midwives to the office staff; they do such a good job and I recommend them to everyone I know. I'd give them ten stars if I could! Thank you so much to this place!

I wanted someone who could help me understand my options, prepare for labor, and provide support beyond what I expected from my medical team. Hiring a doula gave me the reassurance that I wouldn't have to navigate the experience alone. Knowing Michelle would be there to guide, educate, and encourage me made me feel much more confident and prepared going into my first birth. After that, having a doula, for me, was a non-negotiable. Michelle has been by my side for the births of all three of my children, and I can't imaging a birth without her. Each experience was so unique and different, but her support, knowledge, and encouragement were invaluable every single time. I wanted unmedicated births, and Michelle gave me the confidence, preparation, and tools I needed to achieve that goal. During labor, she knew exactly how to support me physically and emotionally, helping me stay focused and calm through some of the most challenging moments. When I doubted myself, she reminded me of my strength and helped me trust my body. What sets Michelle apart is that she doesn't just show up on the day of your birth. She invests in her clients, provides evidence-based information, answers questions, and helps you feel empowered to make decisions that are right for you and your family. Her presence brought a sense of peace and confidence that benefited not only me, but also my husband. She helped my husband understand my needs and how to be a source of strength. She guided him through ways to encourage and comfort me during labor, which allowed us to work together as a team and made the experience even more positive. Because of Michelle's support, I look back on all three of my birth experiences with gratitude and pride. If you're considering hiring a doula, I wholeheartedly recommend the Modern Momma team; they are compassionate, knowledgeable, professional, and truly passionate about helping mothers have positive and empowering birth experiences.

She is clearly knowledgeable and experienced, and I am thankful for the role she played in my birth. During transition and pushing, she offered guidance and support that was helpful in those intense final hours. I do believe she understands birth well and brings expertise to the room. That said, there were a few things that did not sit right with me. At multiple points during contractions, when I looked up, she was visibly on Facebook and Instagram. I understand that long labors can involve downtime, but she was only physically present at the hospital for a few hours during transition and pushing. Given the relatively short window of in person support, it felt disappointing and inappropriate that she was on social media during that time. It made me feel like she was not fully present in such a vulnerable moment. There were also moments where her reactions felt disproportionate, such as when the toilet water unexpectedly splashed up. Her response heightened the situation rather than helping me feel grounded and calm. In addition, I found the overall value of the package to be underwhelming compared to other doulas I interviewed. Many offered formal childbirth classes (which were extra through MM) and ongoing support groups as part of their services, whereas Modern Mama primarily offered monthly mini classes on rotating topics, which did not always feel directly relevant or comprehensive. For the investment, I had expected more structured education and support. Though I was appreciative of the nice photos that were included. I am grateful for her knowledge and the role she played in helping bring my baby into the world, but I do wish the level of presence, professionalism, and overall value had been stronger throughout the experience. I likely won't hire Modern Mama again although I don't have experience with the other doulas.

So, about 10 weeks before I was due I started the search for another doula and came across both Lora, and Chelsea, individually. I contacted them and they let me know they had recently teamed up and were available. We had a zoom call with them and my husband and I decided to book them for our August birth. Chelsea & Lora came for a home visit in June, so we could meet them and discuss initial ideas about my labor/birth/etc. They both brought their individual strengths and so much knowledge. They then came back a few weeks before I was due to discuss plans for when i went into labor, comfort measures, etc. They were both there any other time my husband and I had a question throughout the whole process as well. I had a long, long (44 hour) labor and we (mainly my husband) were in contact with Chelsea/Lora the entire time. About 22 hours in, once the pain had gotten pretty bad, Lora came to our house at 8pm. She quietly supported us and helped get through the contractions. At midnight, Chelsea swapped in so Lora could get some rest. Chelsea encouraged me to keep moving and try different things to help progress labor. When we thought it was time to go to the birth center, Chelsea came with us. When I finally ended up being admitted, Lora was the doula who ultimately joined us at the birth center- and spent over 12 hours there with us. I had mentioned during one of our previous meetings that I would love it if the doula who was present could snap some pictures during the day of labor/birth- I wasn't looking for anything too fancy or professional but just wanted some iphone pics. Lora went above and beyond, using her own camera to take lots of pictures and a video of the birth- which we haven't seen yet but are so excited for! Both Lora & Chelsea truly went above and beyond, and are a perfect complementary team. They came for a 2 week postpartum visit and it felt like having friends over to meet the baby- we cannot recommend them and their services enough & will definitely be using them for baby 2!

Dr. Brotsky is truly the best doctor, of any type, that I have worked with. She makes me feel sincerely cared for and heard. She is funny and kind, while also knowledgeable and helpful. I went to my appointment at 40 weeks, and we decided to schedule another appointment for the following week to discuss the option of induction if the baby did not come. When the baby didn't arrive, I went for my appointment, but the receptionist informed me that Dr. Brotsky had gone on vacation and wouldn't return for a week. I understand that people have lives, but this information hadn't been communicated to me, and I was 41 weeks pregnant. I felt abandoned. I wanted to speak with a nurse practitioner at least to ensure the baby's safety, but they told me I didn't need to talk to anyone and instructed me to call the hospital in three days to schedule an induction. I experienced a lot of anxiety waiting for the baby and having no backup plan. Three days later, the hospital called me and asked me to come in within 40 minutes because apparently, Dr. Brotsky had scheduled an induction for me, but no one had informed me. We rushed to the hospital. Dr. Brotsky returned for the birth even though I had been told she was gone for a week. After practicing pushing with her a few times, she left me with the nurse. I had an epidural so I was not feeling contractions and the monitor was not working and not reading them. I was pushing but not making progress. When I asked Dr. Brotsky to come back, she responded with, "How can I help you?" when I was so vulnerable and needed guidance and support. Once she arrived, my baby was born in 20 minutes. So she could have helped by simply doing her job!!! I am grateful that both my baby and I are healthy, but I couldn't have the birth I had envisioned because of poor communication and planning. I don't recommend Dr. Brotsky. While she seems to care, it feels insincere, and in reality, she does not seem to prioritize her patients' needs.

She listens and offers great advice! I've never had a billing issue, Or any issues with any staff. The biggest complaint I've ever had was wait times, but that's with any doctor office. I don't mind waiting so I don't really complain about it and I'm usually seen in a very timely manner.

Let me start off by saying that most of the staff were kind and helpful; however, this place was a constant headache and gave me so much unnecessary stress and frustration I did not need during my pregnancy. I will list off a few things that happened that I am not very happy about. 1. At my 4 week postpartum check up, Dr. Brar told me to cook my husband dinner when I get home. Yep, you read that right --was just cut open 7 layers and she told me to cook him dinner. I'm sorry, but I just had twins, carried them to almost full term and am now knee deep in the newborn trenches. running on 2-3 hours of sleep a day taking care of two colicky newborns, and constantly in survival mode. So he can cook me a 5 course meal and buy me two Chanel purses as push presents--one for each twin and I still wouldn't microwave him a tv dinner any time soon. By the way, at the same visit I was diagnosed with PPD and had to up my medication. 2. I had a pessary put in at 27 weeks and it was supposed to be taken out at the time of my c section after my epidural so I wouldn't feel it. I reminded Dr. Brar 20 mins beforehand when she came into my room before my c section. I also asked my nurse to remind her in which she did and guess what? She forgot. I had to get it taken out 1 day postpartum. I dare you to Google it to see the size of it. It hurt like a B. 3. Dr. Brar did not read or take my birth plan into consideration. I had said no students during my delivery and there were a few students present. The PA student, Macy, that I had met a couple times at my OB appts prior even said hi to me while I was on the operating table. She was sweet though, I liked her. And listen, I'm all for students learning, my sister's a doctor and you gotta start/learn somewhere, but just not with me. 4. The front desk staff needs more training on billing, insurance and what services the clinic offers because Vicky didn't know her own work place provides NSTs. Also, Keira needs to familiarize herself with pharmacy questions if she is going to answer them for me and deny helping me get my medication on time due to her lack of knowledge in that area. The person in charge of insurance there had me go back and forth with my insurance to make sure it was within network halfway through my pregnancy. Shouldn't that have already been confirmed in the beginning?! Additional stress and work I did not need during my pregnancy. 5. If all that does not convince you not to go here, just make sure you ask to be scheduled to see whoever is delivering your baby. I didn't know Dr. Celest wasn't the one who was going to deliver my babies until a few appts. later. I really liked her though, she was really nice, caring and knowledgeable. Sadly, she no longer works there. The point of this review is not to bash dr. Brar or her clinic, it is to hopefully help someone else in the future and to hopefully for them to make some beneficial changes that may keep their patients in mind.
