Each time I came in the therapist listened to my issues and "checked in" on me during my massage to make sure things were fine for me. I am super pleased with their attention to my specific needs and the willingness to be firmer in some areas and softer in others. I would give this place negative stars if I could. My first intro massage consisted of 30 of my 50 minutes pressing down on my stomach. Not really helpful or "therapuetic"...but ok, I thought...let me just ride this out and give them one more try before I cancel...it has to get better, right!?? So just experienced this from #elementsmassageashburn owner, Jim Pallotta tonight. Had to cancel my appointment today, since I started my monthly visitor (sorry for tmi!). There was no way I was going to go in when I just started my period and feel "relaxed." I was very disappointed they could not accommodate my first monthly session due to this inconvenience...which was not my fault. I told the receptionist that that was fine, since it is their policy, but I would go ahead and cancel my monthly membership. I got a call from the owner, Jim tonight where I thought the conversation was going to go well, only to have him tell me the same thing about his 24-hr cancellation policy and how the therapists only work a few hours a day, etc.. I told him, I understand but I would go ahead and cancel anyways. I got off the phone and a minute later receive notice that my credit card filed there was charged for another month. A charge he told me on the phone would be taken out on the 1st of January. I called him back to ask why he just charged me early. He responded, "because you wanted to cancel." I asked, "is it in your contract to charge a person the day they cancel?" He proceeded to say, "You asked for this." I asked him again, "let me ask you why you just charged my card early?" He didn't answer why he charged it early and why he didn't wait to charge me on the 1st, as is in the contract. He then told me to "calm your ass down" and hung up on me. What kind of OWNER speaks like this and hangs up on their new monthly clients!??? Wow...#massageenvyforme #notaboutthemoneymyass In response Jim: Please do quote me..I am curious as to what venom and verbal abuse I said to you and or your manager when you told me the appointment missed today would still be counted as my massage for the month. My response was, "ok, then. I will go ahead and cancel my monthly membership." You called me tonight to explain to me why you couldn't accommodate me and I said, I understood...but was going to proceed with canceling my membership. You informed me at that time that I would still have to pay my January 1 dues...to which I responded, "more money taken out. Okay." It could have ended there, as I did not plan to go back to your business...even after my dues were taken in what I thought would be Jan. 1. However, where the situation escalated was when you charged my account minutes after you got off the phone with me. I called to inquire about the early charge and the above conversation happened. I did not yell, I only repeated my question three times and still never received an explanation as to why you did not wait until Jan. 1 (the due date to pull funds). There is no excuse to the way you managed this sitaution. Even if I was rude as hell, which I was not. My husband heard the entire conversation, which is why he had to call you and ask why you just talked to his wife like that and hung up on her. Also, I never complained about the first introductory massage because I already signed the month to month agreement prior...which was why I decided to just stick with it and give you another shot. I went here based on the reviews on Yelp to receive a prenatal massage. I had Sylvia who was very nice. She was informative, adjusted the pressure as needed and help to alleviate some of my pain. The main reason for me to give them a 3 star review versus something higher was the fact that they offer an introductory special of $59 for your first massage. I checked my bank account 4 days later and realized that they overcharged me. I called in to notify them, which they did refund me, but I would recommend to everyone to check your statement after receiving your service. read more

Went in for the first time special. Kind of hard to pick someone just based on names in website. Place is located in middle of a strip mall, not your serene spa for sure. Very basic decor and small place. Massage was nothing special as I might have picked the wrong name from list. I have had regular massages and know the average from the one where they focus on stress areas and engage to see if it's working. Here I guess it's a lot of clock watching and felt rushed. Wow. I had a rough week.. and needed to relax. I have been a member of Massage Envy since it opened... I feel like a "number" to them.. rush me in.. rub me down.. take my money and kick me out.. I am kinda over it.. So I wanted to try something new.. I saw Elements advertisement on Facebook.. I tried out a 50 min massage for $59.00.. When I came in.. I was greeted by name. I was invited to have a bottle of water and directions to the restroom. They also asked how I was doing in general and made me feel welcome. I ended up getting a massage by Nicole.. She was friendly and professional and gently melted away my stress. After the massage, she gave me a note that explained where I was knotted up and what we should work on when I come back.. (Kind of like a massage report card and prescription for the next one). I have been back a few times now. and it is always better and new. Karen used hot oiled stones to really get heat into my muscles.. for no extra charge! Rita.. really worked me over and I was pleased to know she is currently a medic in the military. All have been such a great crew.. My cell phone was dying and they offered to charge it while I got recharged too! I met the owner Jim and he was friendly also.. shook my hand and also greeted me by name! I feel like family now.. This is my new home.. I've never had to pay for a massage before, but I also haven't had but a handful of them in the past, but I certainly feel like I got my money's worth at this place. They have a special for 1st time massages and as I was scoping out some of the local businesses for work, I felt like this was the perfect place to de-stress after a busy month of moving, starting a new job, and a million other things going on. I had Bill as a masseuse and he made it very easy to want to setup a follow-up appointment. When it was all over, I just wanted 10 more minutes. They have packages setup so that massages can be a part of your monthly routine, which definitely makes the costs more palatable, and I hope that the subsequent massages are as enjoyable as this one, that was the first one in a good number of years. read more

I attempted to come in for a spa appointment on Friday 11/3. I booked this online and received a phone call on 11/4 that I needed to provide a credit card number to hold my reservation. At approximately 6 pm on 11/4 I called the studio and gave requested information and was assured my appointment was now scheduled. When I arrived on Friday morning at 10:45 am I was told I did not have an appointment and there was nothing they could do. I was told the manager would give me a call to rectify. Oh my gosh. Please listen to this review! I rarely take care of myself like so many. Decided to treat myself today for my birthday. Went here and got a massage by Cate. OH MY GOD. It was AMAZING! She did such an amazing job. Worked on my neck and shoulders. I felt 10 years of stress melt away by the time I left! She was so kind and professional. Kept asking if pressure was ok. She worked me hard and it was just what I needed! I checked out and signed up for the monthly program (ZERO hard sell) to be able to come back and see her. (Monthly program is super cheap if you want to go more then once a month and you can share with a another person. Ultimately I can go and get a killer massage for $79 and then either go back myself or send my husband for an amazing massage for $59!!!) HIGHLY recommend. She even gave me the name of a similar therapist in case she isn't available! I feel amazing! I'm so happy I found this local gem! FYI, get the membership. I HATE monthly dues, but this is a monthly, no contract thing that gets you a reasonably priced massage. So worth it. And it carries over if you don't use it! read more

This is easily the best place for a massage in the DC metro region! I've seen multiple therapists here, and they are all amazing, though Melinda is my absolute favorite. This is distinctly different from Massage Envy, where it's usually a fast-food-like experience, in and out. In contrast, Elements personalizes both the therapist and techniques to you, and tracks your progress. While they definitely do offer relaxing massages, they also really excel at helping you permanently address muscle tension through deep tissue work--often even offer recommended stretches and tools to use at home to speed up progress! They are truly your partner in seeking wellness. I struggle from chronic tension headaches and really appreciate a place that gets it, and cares more about my progress than making a quick dollar. Never seen a place like this before!! PS--as a side benefit, their front desk assistants are outstanding. I've honestly never seen such customer service. If you want to put your account on hold for whatever reason, they will handle it right away--another perk Massage Envy doesn't allow--and they'll reactivate your account immediately upon request. They also have a fantastic and intuitive online booking service--much more advanced than even most doctor's offices. read more

Elements in Ashburn, is just another "Johnny Come Lately" massage center. The priority is not the customer's well being, but the number of customers they funnel though. They tell you that you're paying for and getting a 90 minute massage, then they tweak it down to 80 minutes of actually table time. The explanation for losing 10 minutes of table time is weak at best e.g., "it's because 10 minutes is used to converse with the therapist before each session." That time should not come off your session, and a 10 minute conversation with your therapist shouldn't be required after your 1st session. Nor should the time to undress count against your session. I had been going to Elements for 4 or 5 months, before I terminated my membership last weekend. My therapist for the session was Laura. This was my 2nd session with her and I was quite disappointed. At the 1st session I explained that I had two orthopedic surgeries to include where on my body and when. I also told her that I have lived and worked in seven countries around the world (not visited) and I've been using massage therapy for 20 years. But Laura did not focus on what I was telling her and nor the reason. Her response made it clear that she didn't get it. Laura responded that she had 3 other clients who had traveled as much as I had, and that she had visited a couple of countries. So her response was a tit for tat reaction, as she wanted to let me know that I was not unique in my travels, experience overseas, and with massage therapy. But in fact I am unique because most people who even come close to ever seeing 7 countries have only visited, which is totally different from living in a country. Laura being immature and self focused, missed out on the most important point of my sharing my health history and experience with massage therapy. The point I wanted Laura to get was that "I needed to be comfortable that she knew what she was doing, and that she should bring her "A" game for my session." Instead Laura was feeling some kind of way that prompted a defensive response, so she totally missed the boat. The first session I had with Laura was pretty good, so maybe she did get at least some of the message I was trying to impart on her. But during the next session 2 weeks later, Laura was like a different therapist. I felt she was pacing herself. She was not totally focused on me "being on the table, she lacked positive energy, the massage was weak, and she seemed in a hurry. I had to ask Laura to give attention to my feet, she responded she was saving them for last. She did get around to my feet, but did not touch my chest area at all. When Laura left the room I looked at the clock and it was 1:20 PM and my 90 minute session started at 12:00 PM. When the session began Laura asked me what I needed and I said the same as last week, which took 2 minutes at tops. When the session is done the therapist tells you "take your time getting up" and leaves the room. They walk a few steps from the room to retrieve a bottle of water, and stand in front of the door. They will knock on the door if you are not coming within 3 to 5 minutes. I've been told by several excellent and experienced massage therapist that the massage should be allowed to set-in before getting up from the table. So don't piss on my foot and telling me its raining! Elements can be noisy, during my session it got loud in the hallway with giggling and horse play. I believe it was Amanda from the front desk & another therapist. Laura stuck her head out the door and asked them to keep it down. The massage therapist here are mostly rookies learning as they go. The lack of good bed side manner and professionalism was on display with Laura, as she tucked the sheets under me as if she was handling a side of beef. When people have little to no experience with massage therapy, then of course they may think it's a great massage they are getting when in fact it is not. Elements tells you out of one side of their mouth that they want to match you with the best massage therapist that best suits what your body needs. Then out of the other side of their mouth they push you to try different therapist. The is primarily for the benefit of the business and not for the benefit of the client. By having a person use 2 or 3 different massage therapist, it substantially helps Elements to balance their rotation schedule of massage therapist and when your preferred therapist is booked, Before my last session with Laura, I was recommended a new therapist named Mia. I had been using another therapist prior to Mia. Mia is around 20 years old, while I was on the table she began telling me about herself (unsolicited). She told me she had a traumatic experience, she had problems with her back, etc. It caused me to feel that maybe Mia needed to be on the table and other therapy too. Amanda at the front desk is pretty good as long as she doesn't need to multi task, or expend any extra effort or energy. read more

I went to Elements for persistent neck pain and Rob was great. My one star rating is not a reflection of the therapists rather of their business practice. I enrolled in their wellness program and in December in the middle of finals week they left me a voice mail letting me know they scheduled me for an appointment on Sunday and an email. However I never responded to confirm! I never said YES that works for me and I'll be there. I never even checked my voice mail or email (I thought it was just advertising for one of their members only specials). On Sunday when they called to let me know I was late (for an appointment I never agreed to) I explained it was finals week and I had four finals that I was in the middle of and there was no way I was going to drop everything for a massage. The person on the other line did not tell me that I had basically forfeited my massage for the month so imagine my surprise when I went in a couple weeks later to unwind after a stressful couple weeks and was charged the full price. I explained to them what had happened and they said they would check with their boss to see what to do. They called me back a couple hours later to let me know that even though I DIDN'T KNOW about my original appointment let alone confirm it I was still charged for it and full price for the massage I had actually received. Awesome. I asked to cancel my membership which I was told I could but I would still be responsible for January's payment and on the form I was emailed it states I cant scan and email the cancellation form to them I have to deliver it to them (because I have nothing better to do with my time apparently). "I understand that to cancel my Wellness Program membership I must complete this official form (hard copy, no emails) and present to the studio 30 days prior to the next scheduled withdrawal date". So to sum it up if you want a good (albeit overpriced) massage I would recommend them BUT don't sign up for the Wellness Program and remember to check any and all emails from them and your voice mail every time otherwise you might end up paying for a massage you never got. read more

Worst massage i've had in a long time. I came here after a long day of classes and gym work so my body was sore. I scheduled an hour massage and the therapist did not even get to my legs because she said she had a client right after me. I am on my feet all day and the legs and feet were the most important part of the massage for me. She should have managed her time better. Also, i said I came to relax, but she was telling me a story about her and her sister pranking each other when they were sleeping, which i didn't care to hear about AT ALL. I've had plenty of massages and this was by far one of the best, if not the best. I had Nicole who made the experience awesome! As an emergency nurse I'm on my feet all the time and have knee issues that lead to back problems, etc. so having a great massage is definitely necessary! She worked on all the places we discussed prior to the massage. She's very professional and just wonderful! I can't vouch for anyone else there... I would give the spa itself a 4.5, mainly because I'm used to lemon water or cucumber water before massages and a few minutes to relax- maybe a cookie, this place is a waiting room and then they take you straight back to the room- which IS what you're there for. The temperature has been perfect and if it wasn't you could let someone know and I'm sure they would accommodate the table heat, heater etc. Music is great, lighting is perfect. The receptionists always ask if I have to use the restroom beforehand, which is nice. And they are not pushy about the membership thing. At the end the masseuse gives you a card saying what that session entailed as well as when they recommend the next visit. I'm sure other therapists are great as well, but I can only say Nicole is awesome from my own experience. read more

My concern is not with the actual massage services that I received. Even though the staff turned over very frequently I was able to get a good massage. My issue is with how they handled the termination of my membership. The person at the front desk gave me misinformation and then when I found out, they charged me for an additional month. The office manager was rude and accusatory which just added insult to injury. I made an appointment 4 weeks in advance for January 7th at 2pm with a woman masseuse. I carved out the time to go to Ashburn for the massage only to find when I arrived that they had cancelled my appointment. Said a credit card was required to hold my appointment. I was never ask for a credit card or told of this when the appointment was made or in the email they sent me the same day verifying they would accept my gift card. They said they tried to contact me but I don't have a single message from them.This was their mistake not mine. I guess they have adopted this policy to prevent loosing money for a missed appointment, but instead of loosing money for a possible single missed appointment from me, which didn't happen, they have lost a lifetime of business from me and from all the people I know. I will be telling everyone I know what happened. Bad business plan. I had read other bad reviews on Yelp about Elements Massage in Ashburn but thought maybe they were wrong. This place is great! Clean, comfortable, wonderful staff, great prices. I recommend it! They also do pre-natal massages for your expecting mothers out there. I have had 2 so far and am already noticing less aches and pains than I had while carrying my first child. Customer service is horrible. The owner, Jim, is not concerned about his customers only the money he can make off of them. His receptionist misinformed me on signing up for multiple sessions. After asking for a refund from the owner, he said he would only refund me 1/2. I moved out of the state shortly after my first and only session and therefore thought I would be able to receive a full refund. I was also attending college at the time and would never have signed up had the receptionist told me I would be charged $80/month. The receptionist instead told me I would be charged $80/visit. At the time, I definitely could not afford to be spending that kind of money as I was in school. Again, horrible company. read more

I love this place! They always have appointments open and their therapists are very professional and skilled. The price is right and they have nice music during each session and a nice cool bottle of water afterwards. They also have wonderful specials - gift cards for cheap, go to a second session this month and get a discount, etc. They also have a rational cancellation policy - you don't have to wait a set amount of time to cancel like you do with other places (I left one place took years and multiple holds on my credit card to finally cancel my plan, so cancellation policies are really important to me!). The one comment I have is that they seem to still be starting up - the voicemail is inaccurate and the entrance is pretty barren and the specials are mostly advertised through email. It is hard to tell what kind of add-ons are available - hot stone massage, essential oils, etc. But I will be happy to watch them grow into an even bigger and more well-run place! read more
