Contacted Barry to request a quote for a minor job entailing switching out a tee-valve with an S-valve after the refrigerator water line leaked. We hired Barry to build a fence in our backyard and replace the carpet on two whole floors with hardwood before our new renters moved in. After meeting in person to hash out project specifics, I gave him a code to the house and let him handle things unsupervised for the most part while coming to check in person occasionally. Barry was very communicative with things that popped up and easy to work with. Any miscommunications on my part were easily taken care of by Barry to my satisfaction. From what I understand from reviews, he generally doesn't take payment until after job is complete. This was the case with the fence. For the floors, we paid for the cost of the materials in the middle of it and the labor portion after it was done which was fine for us. We bought a house that was previously owned by an overly confident DIY homeowner, and every single thing that the previous homeowner touched we have found to be done absolutely wrong, from paint and drywall, texture, flooring, trim, you name it. None of it works. None of our kitchen cabinets were aligned or installed properly. The floor did not have the appropriate vapor barrier. The more I looked into things, the more I realized how broken all of it was. I called Barry to help us get us to good in our laundry room and kitchen, where we needed new vinyl floors, some drywall repair, a new sink installed, some new appliances installed. I also had him hang some new garage cabinets. He is clearly in demand and it took him a few weeks to get to us, but it was worth the wait, and his prices absolutely reasonable. This man. is. METICULOUS. Everything needed to be - and was - done with precision and detail. The floors he installed look perfect. My cabinets now actually work. Barry is not OK doing things halfway. He's not even OK doing the job 90% of the way. It's 100% or nothing and I saw it across multiple projects I've had him work on. He is also the cleanest "handyman" I have ever had in my home. Not a speck of dust or footprint was left in any room he worked in; he vacuumed and washed all the completed floor. I needed to do nothing other than just enjoy his new work. It is rare to find someone who can take on virtually any home improvement project, small or large, and do it to such a high standard of care. This pride and professionalism is in short supply today. Clearly not a professional organization. Barry's promises cannot be trusted. He dragged me on for months after providing an estimate, which he later disavowed. Made a number of excuses for not starting the project on time, changed the project start time at last minute without warning, then in the end, walk away altogether.
