The tags, my task, were just good fun. Lots of room to be creative and simple to complete without assistance. The passport covers were another story. The other 2 needed assistance a lot, especially during the stitching, which took quite a bit of time and was a tad hard on their hands. The employees were more than willing to provide the assistance they needed though. There were definitely a couple other crafts I would've enjoyed trying. Fabulous concept, pleasant employees, and a cool way to spend a few hours...especially for those of us very much out of our comfort zone.

A lot of that is likely the crowds on sale day, but isles are narrow and there are a few places where you can get "trapped" if other customers don't see you standing behind. I absolutely love stationary, and this place scratched my letter-writing itch. I ended up picking out a couple of sets of cards + envelopes to add to my collection. These are BEAUTIFUL and well made. Prices were reasonable, and the clearance items were an absolute steal. After numerous failed attempts at teaching myself, I booked a private lesson with Colleen. Over the course of two hours, she taught me all about operating my machine, basic stitches, entry-level sewing tools, and I even made a drawstring bag! She was kind, patient, encouraging, and a FANTASTIC instructor. I can't wait to take some of her group classes!! The store itself is great. Lots of sewing supplies that are of higher quality and will last you a while. The people who work here couldn't be nicer or more helpful. If you feel intimidated by learning to sew, this is a perfect spot to start learning. Even if you're already a great sewer, you'll find everything you need here. They have a spacious section in the back where they teach group and individual classes; you can also rent a desk/machine if you need some higher end equipment to work with. Huge thank you to Colleen and the staff for helping make my entry into sewing fun and easy!!

Put a Bird on It!…read more This is the place to come for your Portlandia fix, if you are into birds, or if you are a fan of the quirky and fantastic art of letterpress. I love it that you can hear the clickity clack of the presses from the minute you walk in, because they actually are conducting printing while you are in the store. The cards, stationary and wall prints (either suitable for framing, or in some cases, sold in frames) are artful, odd, and whimsical. I suspect that many people who don't know Lark Press stumble in during their two hour weekend wait for brunch mecca, Tasty n Sons. On the other hand, those epic waits provide great exposure to a reemerging art form that's taking off in Portlandia, and all over the Pacific NW.

Custom made wedding invitations and business cards. I took a look through their sample invitations and they're absolutely stunning. It was so good that we spent nearly 45 minutes in there.

I took 12 dessert plates to get refired after I did some touch-ups. The check in process was fine…read moreand the employee was friendly. When my plates were "ready" I got a call telling me that two of the plates had slipped during firing and one of the plates had a little piece chipped out of it. There was no offer to fix this, no offer of solutions. The person I spoke with took no responsibility for this, saying this is just something that happens. I went back to Georgie's with my little bottle of paint and my paint brush, bought glue from them (I was really surprised that they wouldn't provide the dab of glue that I needed, but insisted I purchase a bottle of glue) and sat my car and touched up the six plates that needed touching up, not just two. I took the plates I touched up back in the store and when I came back to pick them up they looked worse than they did when I brought them in. The paint was mottled and smeared and a couple of the plates have smudges on them that weren't before. Of course, no one took responsibility for this. If I had signed something that told me that nothing was guaranteed, that I need to accept what I get, then I would have different feelings about this. But it is unusual for a business to ruin something and take no responsibility for it.
