It was four classes and each one builds on the other so make sure you can attend all 4. We were going to do the class a different month but would have been away a week but after talking to the owner and reading about the class we decided to do a month we would be there for all 4 classes and I'm glad we did otherwise we would have missed out on a lot. By the end of the class both of us taking it are coming out with 8 things we made from start to finish!

I kinda didn't want to write this review because I selfishly want to keep it a secret of how…read moreamazing this place is. First of all, the yarn selection is incredible. Went in with my mom to "grab a few things" and left with an entire basket full of yarns we couldn't just LEAVE there. Secondly, the bookstore itself reminds me of the bookstore Belle goes into to borrow books every day in Beauty and the Beast. If you know you know. It's a whole cozy vibe. Thirdly, the staff and service is top notch. Helpful, funny and a lovely chat. I can't give out more info because I still secretly don't want anyone to go and buy everything I still want to buy.

I love bookstores. I love yarn. So already we have a winner here. But this shop is special. An…read moreoutstanding collection of books is crammed into a cute little house. It's the kind of shape where you wander, finding treasures as you go. As for the yarn selection, it's small but nice, with some unusual options. The staff are always friendly and helpful. I live just a couple blocks away, and it's a miracle I'm not broke by now.

I've been slowly making my rounds to the many new yarn shops since we moved here last summer. I've…read moredriven past Fiber Rhythm several times, but have been waiting to check it out with my daughter. I was excited to FINALLY get an opportunity to stop in during our mom-and-daughter Galentine's Day adventure. There was one person working there, and they were so sweet, friendly, and helpful. That alone would bring me back again and again. Secondly, the space is airy, well-lit, and delightfully organized, which is very conducive to knowing exactly where to get what you need and also lends itself to relaxed meandering when you don't have a specific need, BUT as all yarn-crafters know, the yarn will let you know you need them. I don't make the rules. There's a fabulous selection of premium, affordable basics, natural, and synthetic fibers. The knitting needles and crochet hooks are behind the counter, so you will have to be intentional here. In places where I don't necessarily need any tools but see one, I tend to buy it. (Please respect my privacy on how many size 6 16" circulars I have purchased.) So, in this regard, Fiber Rhythm is saving me (and my pocketbook) from myself! In addition, there are dyes, several kits, and a winder to self-wind your purchases. To be honest, there was much, much more, but I had parked in a spot where I had to move by 4:00 pm, and we got there at 3:49 pm. This was a literal "speed run" through a yarn store. I look forward to visiting again when the parking godz don't require haste.

Lovely gallery right in the Main Street in Troutdale. Featuring works of local artists, there are…read morelot of landscapes and wildlife representing the gorgeous Pacific Northwest. Several mediums are represented, which I really like, so you have options. Oil painting, acrylics, watercolors, metal work, ceramics, wood, paper and even jewelry. Loved the variety of art styles and the fact that the art was affordable. There were pieces across a wide spectrum of prices, many artists offering prints or canvas options of original art at a fraction of the price. Since I have limited wall space, I have to be very particular with the art I purchase and there are two pieces that I am considering. The artists take turns working at the gallery so you get to meet and speak with them, which I find very enjoyable. Art tells a story and getting to know the artists and the story behind the art makes it that much richer. Troutdale has a First Friday from 5-8pm and Red Trillium is part of this fun monthly event.

This is a wonderful gem in the heart of St Johns. The yarn shop side has a lovely selection of mid- to luxury yarns. I was excited to see Brown Sheep yarns here because they are a sweet reminder of my humble beginnings when learning to knit 20+ years ago. It was my go-to yarn for felting projects. Not many shops carry Brown Sheep. Did I need more yarn? You never ask a fiber artist that question. The factual answer is likely no, but the spiritual answer is always yes. I ended up with a gorgeous skein of Blue Sky Woolstock in Earth Ivy. The bookshop side has a lovely selection of books, cards, games, gifts, stickers, and bookish ephemera. When I visited last week, a fantastic Summerween display sat at the front of the shop. I couldn't help myself and had to buy "A Cursed Collection of Haunted Dolls." I was also happy to find a paperback edition of My Friends by Fredrik Backman, which has been on my list for ages. The same rules apply to the question of factual vs. spiritual need for books in the heart of a hopeless bibliophile. I'm excited to tuck into "A Cursed Collection of Haunted Dolls" because the lovely bookseller, Christine, mentioned that bar owners in St John's are IN this book! How awesome is that?!? It was such a delight to chat with Christine. I'm so grateful to booksellers like them for daring to dream and investing in spaces that nurture learning and imagination. Looking forward to my next visit!

I connected with Klum House through Design Week Portland. I've never used a sewing machine, so "no…read moreexperience required" appealed to me. I made the dopp kit over about 2 hours. For that class, the machine is set up and no troubleshooting is required. The fabric is already cut to the pattern. This project is ideal for beginners; all my substandard seams were hidden! The owner-instructor has whole series of short project classes to make useful everyday things - bags and backpacks. You don't have to go deep into patterns or fabric, zippers, snaps, rivets, leather and other hardware, all that is included, in a range of a few colors you select. The projects include some specialty fabrics, like sustainable waxed canvas that are hard to source. Some of their other classes cover more challenging material to sew, like leather, and even a Pendleton panel. The most important part of my experience and this review is that the owner-instructor is patient and a great teacher. The owner-instructor perceives individual learning styles and adapts to each student. Her business model is brilliant. The classes are on the boss Singer 4423, which is an affordable machine to set up at home, continuing your adventures. For your own sewing adventure, Klum House has supply kits of useful sewing gadgets you used in class to purchase and take home. Best of all, after a Klum House project, "I made that" is a beautiful thing to say to individuals asking questions about your project, close around you, friends, and admirers on the street!
