Wonderful stay at an element as per usual! We got in very late and luckily the attached bar/restaurant was open. The reason for four stars was, well the food was terrible, BUT Alan (I believe) was an outstanding bartender. There was this drunk, wacko kid in there, really causing a scene and being rude to literally everyone in there. Alan handled it so professionally. I love this hotel. Great staff, garage parking and now that the bar serves food, I don't have to leave the hotel to get a little something to chew on. Great Pico de Gallo with Tortilla chips and the Meatball sliders are super yummy. Gym is a bit small but that is common for Element hotels. Ask for a high floor, above 4, if you don't want to look into the condo Windows across the street. Very close. read more

Very nice hotel. Couple of blocks from the Prudential Center. The room is set up like a mini apartment. The only thing the room is missing is a washer/dryer lol. I mean it has everything you could possibly need to live. Full kitchen with stove, dish washer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, etc. Honestly just super covenient and modern looking. Comfortable beds. All TV channels. Free breakfast in the morning. They also have a "restore" to buy things/food/etc you might need. A bar/restaurant. Pool and 24/7 gym access. Not a fan of paying for parking when I stay at hotels though. So that $14 I came out of pocket might be my only qualm. However once you get over that, at least it's with in and out privileges. I would definitely come back and recommend anyone to stay here. It's new and you definitely won't regret it. Solid hotel with very clean design. Parking onsite in the garage requires checking in first to get a keycard. Price is 14/day to park there. The rooms are well equipped and the wifi is free and fast (my #1 priority when on the road). Didn't try the food but I did get snacks from their lobby which was ok but nothing amazing. They had beer by the bottle and snacks so that was cool. Free breakfast in the mornings too. I'll be back :) read more

I'm a gold level member of SPG so I generally get upgraded. We were in a studio room facing the train station. I worried about the noise, but it was quiet. I was traveling with my bf. I arrived by train, but he had a rental car. If you were going to to NYC everyday you would not need a car as the PATH train can take you right there. The path exit/entrance is a little shady I wouldn't want to arrive/depart too late at night, but the hotel is literally 2-3 minutes away. Near the hotel is a five guys and dunkin donuts. We were upgraded to a Studio room with a full kitchen, complete with dishwasher etc. You could easily live in this room for awhile if you needed to. The pool was small and did not have lounge chairs. The downstairs had a nice lounge/living room for working outside of your room or perhaps meeting friends. The breakfast was lackluster compared to Hyatt House or other Sheratons. However, still a nice amenity. As I said the room was huge. We only stayed one night, but it was a lovely room. They just opened another hotel closer to EWR so I think we would try that out before we stayed here again. However, I would definitely recommend this hotel! read more

I have stayed here about 6 times between 2015-2016 I just love staying here! The building is nice, rooms are gorgeous but the first time I stayed here the girl at the front desk was very rude. She seemed to have an attitude the entire time checking me in but since then I have dealt with other front desk employees and they are all much nicer and helpful. The rooms are beautiful, tons of space and clean. I always stay in the studio with full kitchen but the also have 1 bedrooms I believe. The bathrooms in the room make you feel like your staying at a 5 star hotel! They are doing construction constantly, trying to build up the area. I know once complete the neighborhood will look amazing but just a heads up. Also the free breakfast is not that great but if you pick the right option it's ok so I can only give 4 stars due to that. It's a nice enough hotel. I was part of a group that checked into this hotel and was told that they did not take rewards members info here. It must be true because they didn't recognize the green choice hang tag I put on my door. They didn't clean my room even though the do not disturb sign was not used. They also did not offer to award the $5 discount in their store upon checkout. Travel and hotel stays are not the same thrill for people who have to do this for a living. When choosing a hotel for myself Element Harrison won't be on my list of places to stay. Other than that. Toe room was fine. The people seem friendly. And they obviously understand the policy's that reflect the owner group of this hotel. read more

Had pretty high expectations when I booked this hotel and it was pretty disappointing. I found someone's dried out contact lenses in between the sheets on the bed when I checked in (found it while laying in bed) as well as the floor had some trash on the floor, meaning the bed/room was not cleaned before we had checked in. The bath gel was also empty when we had checked in as well, usually when I stay at hotels they have everything restocked for the room. We checked in late at night as well so there should have been no rush with getting the room prepped and cleaned. I felt that the cost of the hotel per night was way too overpriced for a dirty unprepared room. I also noticed that the rooms were not sound proof. Unfortunately I also did not get the room I had booked online, a studio king room and received a queen double bed room. I understand the reasoning behind why hotels sometimes are unable to fulfill this request but I was actually looking forward to the room I had requested. Not a great stay for what you pay but fulfilled what I needed for the weekend. read more

A very good non-full-service hotel. The room was quite spacious and had a full kitchen, including a stove and microwave and a full-sized fridge. The bathroom was spacious. I'm not sure if there was a gym or not. The breakfast food was pretty good and there were different main courses each day (breakfast burritos, mini quiches, breakfast sandwiches). Being next to the Harrison PATH station was very convenient. I had a couple good meals at the on-site restaurant. After taxes, it cost me about $180 a night, so certainly not 'inexpensive', per se. If you don't mind a train running through your room until late in the night and early morning, then I guess you might like this place, or maybe the TV automatically turning on at 5am, or paying $21 per night for parking or blackout curtains that lets the sun shine in in all its glory. My first time in the area, this hotel was recommended as a close option to the office I was visiting. The neighborhood seems to be undergoing development and the new Path station going up across the street will be a great draw. Hotel was comfy and well appointed from the minute I walked in. The worst hotel experience I've ever had in my life. My flight from Newark was delayed x 4, then ultimately cancelled at 11pm. I looked for the nearest Marriott, which was the Element Harrison - Newark. Made the reservation, got my confirmation number, and took the 19 minute Uber ride to the Element Harrison. I arrived in the middle of chaos. The desk clerk reported that I and 9 others did indeed have a confirmed reservation, but they didn't have a room for the 10 of us. I asked if she could help me with a nearby Marriott room. She explained that she could try, but using the Marriott reservation system could create this same result in my next hotel. I eventually found a room at a fleabag hotel with bulletproof glass. It gets better. I reached out to Marriott with the belief that this event would be completely inconsistent with their Brand. I was wrong. Marriott Corporate stated that they would reach out to the hotel and expect a response in 5 days. Nothing. Contacted Corporate Marriott again. Great apologies, and they assured me that they would re-contact the hotel and figure out what happened. That failed too. Got an email stating that the issue was resolved, and they'd send me a check for $100. My point: What Happened? Is this the new normal for Marriott? Why can't they explain to me why I received a confirmaton # and no room was available?? My belief: this is a problem that repeats itself a LOT. Otherwise, Marriott would be responding. read more

The bar manager knows so much about his craft and can mix, listen, and talk (perfect combo). I stayed at the Element Harrison for a week and a half with my work team for trial. The rooms were clean, and the staff was great. The general manager, James, was always attentive to our group's needs. He even gave us t-shirts at the end of our stay as a thank you. Super cool. We had our lunches and dinners catered by the hotel's restaurant. Every meal was amazing, and it was so much food. We even had our own waiter, Mel, who was so kind. The location of the hotel is in a quaint residential area. You can tell the buildings have been renovated recently with modern color block paint. There is a gourmet coffee shop at the end of the street, several restaurant choices if you don't want to eat at the hotel, and the PATH train stop is at the other end of the street. This train will take you directly into New York to the World Trade Center Museum in just 20 minutes, or you can go the other way into Newark. I highly recommend this hotel. read more

As of Sept 2018, there is massive construction going on next door at Harrison train station and next door new apartment construction. The noise is insane and starts very early and lasts all day. I strongly recommend you steer clear for several more months, getting an Uber is hard due to the traffic due to the construction, 10 minutes to go 2 blocks. Also, the staff is terrible, I was asked to remove myself from an outside table to eat at because I wasn't eating the hotel's crappy food. Bizarre. Stay away.... I won't be coming back. read more

Checking into this hotel has proven to be a nightmare straight from the pits of hell. Between the masked charges that my bank informed me were taken out of my account and the relatively clueless front desk staff, I'm deeply regretful that I picked this hotel. I am now trying to pay with a mix of cash and credit so that my family who traveled over 8 hours today (including the 1 hour they've spent wrangling with their systems and their absent manager hoping for a hint of clue) can finally check into their room. After leaving a review about the Element Hotel. Today, I received a call from KIM the director of sales, who informed me that the price I paid was correct . She also stated "its an URBAN area" as a reason for the $100.00 increase. In addition to it being a urban area, the $100.00 fee was for taxes and parking for one vehicle. Really KIM ??? $100.00 fee for taxes and parking one vehicle??? Totally and utterly ridiculous! First off I'd like to stress that I very much like this hotel, however the changes in The Station, the bar/restaurant in the hotel are extremely disappointing. The wine selection has dropped by half, and the quality of the wine has dropped like a bird turd. The food has gone downhill like Lindsay Vonn being chased by a Yeti. When I asked the new bartender if I could get veggies with my entree, he offered me rice....um, no thank you, it actually already comes with rice as well. I started staying at this hotel last week. It's only been open for about a month, and it's a short commute to my client. The hotel is next to the Harrison Station. There's a Dunkin Donuts around the corner and, across the street, there is a Five Guys Burger and Fries. There's also a Japanese place down past the Five Guys, but I have not heard any good things about it. Now about the rooms. The windows are not sound proof (especially if your room is facing the tracks), so if you're a light sleeper, you will have issues sleeping if your room faces the train tracks. Fortunately, I'm not. The rooms are nice with wood floors. The rooms have a microwave and refrigerator. The beds are comfy and I like how the shades pretty much black out the room. The bathrooms are a good size and don't have tubs! Thank goodness. I hate tubs. They serve breakfast and a light snack at night. All included. Oh and they have free wifi. The staff are excellent. So friendly, welcoming and attentive. I took one star away for the noise from the train track. read more

Stayed here recently for about a week for a business trip. I would stay here again. Firstly, I got to stay in a suite at the same rate as regular rooms. Not sure why suites had the same rate, but they did. Clean room and nice contemporary design. The hotel has a gym and an indoor swimming pool, too. Super close to Metro station. It's practically right next door. It was kinda nice to commute by a train for a LA girl whose only choice normally is to drive. 1 star taken out because it took a while for the hotel shuttle to pick me up from EWR. Also because a housekeeper seemed to have forgotten to give me a full set of towels on few days. Service is mediocre (though friendly). I think it's the right level of service for what you pay. read more

The Element Harrison is a prime choice for your stay when coming to NYC or the NJ area. It is right next to the Path Station which takes you to downtown NYC. The rooms are modern with several in room amenities (ear plugs, mini kitchen set up, rain shower) as well as very clean and comfortable rooms. Anna, the lady who serviced the room was happy & helpful. She was a pleasure to speak with upon check out. Plus, the (included) morning breakfast was a great way to start the day! Got this room on HotelTonight.com and I was blown away by the room!! Full kitchen, comfy bed and pillows, rain shower, hotel amenities are super cool and clean. Staff was very friendly and close to restaurants. My only complaint is that their window covering was not very effective at covering the light and so it wasn't pitch dark at night. I travel a lot for work and this will become a regular spot for me. Very fun staff, nice areas to work, and a relaxing atmosphere are all part of the package deal. Several great restaurants are within walking distance as is the PATH train station. The path will get you into the city for $2.75 and about a half hour ride. It is very simple to navigate. The breakfast was a full spread of all sorts of breakfast items and was great. My room was very clean, modern, and comfortable. Looking out of the windows into the living room of the neighbors across the street was a little different than I am used to, but there are curtains if this is an issue. The kitchen area in my room was FULLY stocked, but I opted to let a recommended restaurant prepare a delicious dinner for me. read more

Probably the worst front desk staff in the world. We had a decent experience with a number of drawbacks. #1: It's close to red bull stadium so be prepared for insane traffic going to, from, and anywhere around the towns of Harrison and Newark on a game day. # 2: it is an off-the-beaten-path hotel in a small town, the only thing in the town is the train next door to NYC. You can hear the train and nearby construction LOUDLY at all times of the day and night. #3: There were hairs in our bed and stains on the sheets when we first checked in. Be sure to check your bedding before you get in. I am not blonde and know these are not my hairs. Honestly, none of these things really bothered me. My family lives in Harrison and I grew up here; i know more than anyone that it is not the best neighborhood. I only stay at hotels in Harrison when I visit with my husband. However, what changed and made me NEVER want to stay here again is Amy (tall, short blonde hair with gauges in her ears). Amy is a front desk attendant who could not be bothered to look up from her phone at 10pm at night, when we were coming in from the city of the second night of our stay. When we asked for late checkout for the next day (a TUESDAY?!?), we were shocked that the seemingly empty hotel could not accommodate our modest request. Not only were we rudely (based on tone of voice, body language, and basic human decency) denied late checkout, but we weren't given a reason when we asked why this was the case. I understand if a hotel is fully booked or it's a holiday weekend. But honestly, of the 100+ rooms at the hotel, I may have seen 10 residents in my 3 days there. And that's being generous. I also want to mention that we've stayed here multiple times in the past, we are SPG members, we stay at SPG hotels all the time, and we visit Harrison quite often. In almost every hotel stay in Harrison and otherwise, people will kindly tell you why they can not accommodate late checkout if that's the case. I am certain that she did not check or make any effort to accommodate us. She said blankly: "check out is at 12." I know this because her eyes did not leave her screen/phone while we were in front of her. Based on this experience, we will not be back to the Element Harrison and recommend that you do not visit either. read more

My overall stay at the Element Hotel was excellent. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The lobby clean and inviting. The rooms were very beautiful and comfortable. I loved the shower with the rainfall shower head. We ordered room service and the food looked and smelled delicious. I had the salmon and he had the half chicken. Both of our meals tasted like they didn't use anything but salt to "season" the food. I would say bland would best describe the food. We still ate it but we decided that our next stay we will get food outside the hotel. Breakfast was good. We both enjoyed our meals. I recommend this hotel to my friends and family that just need some away time but can't go far. I think it will be perfect for ppl that are visiting NYC because it's very easy to get to the trains. The rooms have kitchenettes so if you want to cook you can. The refrigerator was a full-size one so you really can do your grocery shopping and cook everyday if you want. My wife stayed there one night on business last week. She checked in on the 27th; the front desk placed a hold on her debit card in the amount of $433 (room cost of $355, plus incidentals of $70). Later, after checking out on the 28th, we realized that the hotel had charged her another $355, instead of taking the amount due out of the hold amount. We have been fighting with our bank and the hotel ever since trying to get our $435 back. STEER CLEAR. Remember, this is Harrison, NJ. my husband and I booked a night at the element when we would be flying out of newark. the location of the hotel is extremely convenient, as it is literally steps away from the path going into the city or back to the airport. the hotel also offers complimentary shuttle service to the airport every half hour. as part of the stay, free continental breakfast is included. this is normally a great perk, and the breakfast selection was pretty good. when we were there, they offered scrambled eggs, ham, pancakes, smoothies, oatmeal, boiled eggs, and various toasts, pastries, cereals, fruit, and yogurt. there is also a 24 hour pantry with food items and snacks, and this is relatively inexpensive. i got a decent bottle of wine for $14, and a chef's salad for $7. the room itself was really great. it came with a kitchenette and was spacious enough to hold a couch, tv, and queen bed. the floors were partially hardwood and partially carpeted, and seemed to be of pretty high quality. it is an eco-friendly hotel, but this does not get in the way of comfort. i was also happy to see that the hotel had left a nice gift for me in the room (water, soda, chocolate, and a granola bar) and did acknowledge platinum status. read more
