I've had this review in my drafts for awhile. I visited sometime ago and was impressed with what I saw. The location has a nice selection of furniture that seems to be beautifully crafted. The pieces are a little pricy, but that's understandable given that they are hand crafted. We visited early one Saturday morning and were there for at least 45 minutes. The store was crowded and there weren't enough employees present to assist waiting customers. We ended up leaving without ever talking to a store associate. We would have considered placing an order, but didn't because of of that. We ended up going to Walter E. Smithe instead and purchasing a dining room table there. Still I'd consider Rustic Elements as a possible option whenever I decide to upgrade my current furniture pieces. read more

Where do I start? Three years ago when building our house we looked everywhere for tables. The quality at other stores just was not there. So we went to Scott with a vision for a table. This review is way overdue, as we've had our kitchen table for at least a year now I think. I found his website from a Craigslist ad and the rest is history. So what makes this special? First, you're involved in the entire process of having your piece made. For us, we needed a kitchen table. We were able to visit his workshop, look at examples of table lengths, widths, degree of distressing on the wood, various stains, etc. You can literally pick and choose each option to your preference. After a few weeks, the table was finished, delivered and assembled by Scott and his crew. He even gave tips about the type of wood and finish that was used, and how to clean and maintain the table. Scott was very accommodating and really took his time talking us through the options and didn't pressure us to buy. We were able to get a long and wide dining table with extra thick top in a beautiful grey stain. It has beautiful metal X/shaped pedestals. I wanted a more modern and sleek look with no distressing and that's what I got, so don't be fooled by their name if you don't want a rustic look. The table took a few months but was delivered right on time. The craftsmanship is excellent. Pricing is fair and transparent. I feel that an appropriate review for Rustic Elements is needed. The level of craftsmanship, communication, skill- I rarely think that a business is so stellar as these guys. I will tell you why I am writing this. I came into 2 raw slabs of American Elm, live edge a few years ago. I wanted to make a live edge table- and shamelessly copy much, much more expensive versions at Room and Board and other top end stores. Scott and I communicated via email, text, phone regarding the wood and I finally made the drive down to Joliet. A few weeks later, my 2-slabs were perfectly finished, bookmatched to perfection, and I had a wonderful table top. I had my own legs- and now I have a table that looks like a masterpiece. Fast forward- I wanted an edgy coffee table. I had some bowling alley lane, wood. I thought it would be different, but cool for a loft. I went down again, for the master finishing. Scott and company could have finished the wood to perfection, but stressed that I was pouring money into a non-finish quality work. I had no choice but to trust them. I didnt want to pour thousands of dollars into something that would look 50% as good as my imagination had made it out to be. After careful consultation, I ended up going with a Rustic-made end grain butcher block top for my 2-tier coffee table. Again, the quality was perfection. Scott is the man! We've had our table for a month now, and it is by far the best purchase that we've made for our new home. I don't know why you would go anywhere else for a table. My wife and I really enjoyed the process of picking out the details for it as well. Scott is very personable and will get it done for you. Yup, it's another 5 Star review.... OUR. TABLE. IS. AMAZING!!! Seriously, I wake up every day and just stare at in in my kitchen and run my hands over it. Is it possible to be completely in love with a table? Because I am! I think my husband might be getting slightly jealous. My 2 year old excitedly shouts "New Table" and "New Bench" every time he sees them. All he wants to do is climb on the bench and sit at the table. (The table even provides babysitting services! Wowza!) It is the first thing people notice when they walk into our condo. I needed a custom table built for our unique dinning nook in our condo. I wanted a table that was solid and could withstand a 2 year old banging and climbing on it. (I feel like the standard big box stores such as Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel use wood & finishes that are too soft and cause the tables to easily ding.) Got our table delivered just a few days ago, right to our front door. Scott (and one unnamed helper) brought our table up, assembled the legs, gave us a lesson in care (very minimal), and did it all in freezing temperatures with smiles on their faces. The table looks awesome, and the faux-leather chairs are actually quite comfortable. We broke the table in with some pulled pork tacos and a board game, and it cleaned up with a few sprays of cleaner and a quick papertowel wipedown. I can't say enough good things about Rustic Elements Furniture. They were a pleasure to work with and the finished product is amazing. We had been looking for a new dining room set for quite some time when someone we know just happened to find them on line. We went out to the shop to see their work and get some ideas and Scott sat with us for a very long time looking at his designs and explaining the differences in various woods. We chose a table and a stain color and we looked at some chairs. The chairs really held us up a little because we couldn't decide what fabric to choose. We went back to the shop a few weeks later and Lexi sat with us and went over the fabrics . We explained that we wanted a faint pattern on the fronts of the chairs and a solid on the backs. She worked with us very patiently until we settled in on two fabrics and the chairs came out exactly how we hoped they would. We also looked at the table again while we were there and realized that it wasn't the color we wanted to Scott advised us and we changed the type of wood and it too is perfect. Additionally, his guys came out to deliver it and were so careful and considerate when they put the table together and brought in all of the chairs. My dining room table has survived my 4 kids these past 3 years and I get compliments on it all the time! I was looking for a high quality dining table after having a horrible experience with a table from PB that had paint peeling, horrible quality. After the 3rd replacement table with the same issues, I decided to look for a local furniture store with real hardwood furniture and came across Rustic Elements. Their showroom gave us a great idea of all the table features we could get and helped us decide what to order. We've been very happy with the quality & timeless look of our table. Our kids have used the table like normal, we haven't been careful or delicate with the use & it has held up well, it still looks like the first day it got delivered. The kids even dropped some egg coloring/dye on the table during Easter, I had to use the harsh side of the sponge to completely wipe off the pink dye & it looks like nothing even happened, the dye came off & there are no visible scratches! I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said! We received our dining table, extensions and bench a couple of weeks ago and can't stop admiring it. This sort of craftsmanship and care is just not seen very much anymore. The table and bench are built amazingly well. Scott was so easy to work with and has a real gift for listening to what the client wants and delivering. Somehow through my cryptic description of the color I wanted, Scott nailed it! The color is perfect - exactly what I wanted. He patiently talked me through some options, ideas and gave suggestions when needed. I agree with what someone else said - trust Scott's judgment when in doubt. He will not disappoint. When Scott and Matt delivered and set up the table, they were professional, respectful and explained how to care for the table and how to take it apart and put it back together again should we move at some point. You couldn't ask for a nicer couple of guys. Finally, for the price you will not find better furniture. Boy did I feel stupid when it scratched just by blowing on it. I mean really, it was a delicate piece of furniture. When we sold our dining room table to the people purchasing our house, I couldn't be happier - I now had a reason to go to Rustic Elements. I found them on craigslist a few years ago and followed their web site. When we were ready, I made an appointment to go out to their shop and see their work in person. It was so exciting getting to pick out every aspect of our table. We LOVE our table and chairs. Scott was patient and answered all our questions. I loved working with someone who was excited about what he does. For around what we spent at that evil retail store (maybe less) we bought a SOLID table that Im sure we could host a dance party on. I love that its solid wood, no veneer. We went a little rustic but not a ton.. Although it will be hard to scratch - if we do make a mark it will just blend right in. I was able to custom order my table exactly to my specifications and was even able to add leaves to a circular table! Scott was a pleasure to work with and didn't mind talking me through all of the choices. He also is a gifted wood-worker and really thinks through all potential problems (he reinforced the leaves with steel to make it more structurally sound). I was looking on Craigs List for a quality used table, but I fell in love with the tables on the Rustic Elements website instead. It took me six months to drag my husband out to Joliet to agree, but the table was worth the wait. The beauty and craftsmanship aside, I cannot adequately express how awesome it is to have a table to fit the room PERFECTLY. My dining room is a pass through to the rest of the house, so I wanted it as BIG as possible, without seeming like a giant speed bump in the middle of my house. Now that it's here, I realize that a custom table was really the only solution, and I'm happy I had it locally made, by a small business. What they built is perfect. A narrow 39", but long enough for 8 to sit comfortably. Scott properly managed the husband/wife debate over color and options. He was also readily available via email and phone, which is somewhat rare for someone that also is crafting the furniture, but was extremely helpful. The cost was roughly 30% more than a generic store bought table - and then we upgraded to Hickory, so it ended up being 70% more - oops! But at the end of the day, it is OBVIOUSLY a high-end custom table and when people walk through my dining room, they say "WOW" versus "did you get this at World Market?" ... and there are no speed bumps in my house. read more

Had to chime in. This was the first piece I bought when I bought my new loft in the west loop. Scott literally dropped it off the day after I moved in, with boxes everywhere. As soon as he put it together, the place felt like home. Great table, huge, 200lbs, 9 ft long, great bench to go with it, at an amazing price. Every time someone walks in, it is the first thing they point out. Scott and I got along immediately, you could just tell he was/is a good dude. I was referred to Rustic Elements Furniture by a friend after admiring his stunning dining room table. I then spent countless hours scrolling through the photo albums on the website, dreaming of having a table of my own. It took a Black Friday special to finally get me to take the first step of calling the shop, and it was an excellent decision. We then visited the shop in Joliet, which I highly recommend. Scott took the time to show us samples of the different wood types, stains, finish options, and leg widths. He also had some recently finished items on display in the front of the shop and showed us what different chairs would look like around a table. Our table is flush leg with an ebony finish and a distress level of 8. Basically, the table looks like it was dragged out of a field and spit shined before ending up in our dining room (which is exactly the look we were going for!!). From the exposed bolts, to the scuffed edges of the chairs, to the visible tool marks on the table surface, this dining set is a striking work of art. It's also a solid piece of furniture that you can set a glass of ice water on without fear of destroying it. It will definitely outlast us and probably future generations as well. As another reviewer mentioned, we researched tables at the usual places (always made in other countries with questionable resources and shipped to the US), and the total price of the dining set from Rustic Elements was comparable to major retailers (factoring in how ridiculously expensive chairs are). However, the quality is so much better, it's handcrafted, you are supporting a local business, AND you end up with a unique piece of furniture that you helped to design! From the first phone call, to our shop visit, to the communication while we waited the table to arrive, Scott was awesome. He's friendly, honest, and really knows his craft. To top it all off, the delivery guys were prompt, friendly, efficient, and courteous. They had the table set up in no time, polished it up, snapped a few photos to document their handiwork, and the guys even took off their shoes because it was raining out! (Not to mention, the table and chairs already had the little felt pads on the bottom to protect our wood floors.) I guess I just can't heap enough praise on Scott and his business. Our table was delivered yesterday and it is BEAUTIFUL!!! I sent him a chair leg to match the finish to and he got really close , however the handcrafted table puts my store bought chairs to shame. Just a side note: I asked for the table to be heavily distressed, and the distressing makes the table a little more rough to the touch than I had anticipated so if you are looking for a smooth to the touch table you may want to go with a light distressing. Scott assembled the table in my kitchen and gave me very clear instructions on how to take care of my new addition. Rustic Elements seemed to be the place to go. A+ quality and A+ experience from Scott and the Rustic Elements team!! We are thrilled with our custom dining table and bench and I highly recommend working with this company. The quality is superb: the table is elegant, extremely durable, AND designed for everyday living. When I previously looked at tables at Pottery Barn / Restoration Hardware / countless other stores in this category, I worried about water spills, mug rings, crumbs getting trapped in the weathered surface, etc. We don't have to worry about any of this with our Rustic Elements table as it's perfectly smooth (which makes for a nice work surface and is easy to wipe clean) while showing off an authentic wood grain and beautiful rustic charm. Beyond the great quality, I also recommend Rustic Elements for the personalized customer experience. Scott was incredibly patient and helpful as we debated different styles and considered different stains. We landed on a modern pedestal style with two leaves, a beautiful grayish brown stain, light distressing, and a skinny hidden drawer that can hold placemats and napkins. We love it!! Scott delivered our table today. It looks great--84" x 33 w x 30.5 h, Douglas Fir with Provincial stain top with black base and black tapered legs. Cost, including delivery $725. Took six weeks start to finish. Has two coats of satin finish polyurethane to protect it. Scott and his partner brought it up to our second floor "studio" and bolted on the legs, did a final light sanding and polished it with Pledge. I'll use it for artwork and projects. It could definitely also be used as a dining table but I'm not moving it b.c. it weighs 200 lbs. Very happy with it. read more
