I had the displeasure of meeting the tailor with the brown hair and glasses, I didn't get her name. She made several horrible comments about my choice of wedding dress, openly busted out laughing, and made rude comments about my body. She called my dress "ridiculous" and kept shaking her head & asking questions about why I wanted to wear it. Then she had the audacity to ask me to bring it in after the wedding so she can show someone else - as if it was some big joke. I would never come back unless she is removed. So unprofessional. I found Elegant Mode through some Next Door recommendations and am SO HAPPY. I got the dress at a steep discount on PoshMark but it obviously needed a lot of alterations. She was super friendly, very quick, and very attentive. I had the dress taken in on the sides, shortened the straps, lowered the back, and hemmed the dress. The hemming was an entire ordeal since the dress was lace all around. I wanted a simple bustle and so we hemmed the inner layer to not need to be bustled and had a single cute button bustle for the lace layer. I'm so happy and will be back!! Galina and Zoya are AMAZING! I can't recommend Elegant Mode enough for your tailoring needs. I took in bridesmaid dress samples I had ordered to Galina for her input on which size I should purchase since I am a pear-shape body type, and was unsure if I should order based off my skirt size, or bodice size. She was very knowledgeable and gave me great advice on which size to order, and how we can go about alterations to fit my body better. Both of these ladies did such an amazing job reconstructing my dress to fit a better a-line shape since bridesmaid dresses are typically made for very tall proportions, and I am petite and curvy. I feel so beautiful and confident in my dress now, these ladies went above and beyond to make sure the fit was absolutely perfect. My wedding was just 2 1/2 weeks away and I couldn't find someone with a reasonable price that would do it in time, but then I found Galina and she was like my fairy godmother. I had some alteration done to my wedding dress which needed taking in, had a good amount of beading that was incorporated into a strap that I wanted removed, and a cascade chiffon skirt which needed bustling added. Galina is a miracle worker and a life saver! When I purchased my wedding gown from Lovely Bride, I had no idea how difficult it would be to tailor: there are no seams in the delicate french lace, so the entire dress needed to be taken apart in order to alter it. I interviewed two other alterations specialists before Galina (big name bridal spots), and both were kind of divas with super high prices. Galina is incredibly talented, yet very modest. She is all business, and will be completely honest and fair with you in terms of the price and the timeline (no smoke blowing here!) She tailored the dress TO PERFECTION! Whereas other people I interviewed allotted for "two sessions" of alterations in their price, I visited Galina almost weekly to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. Yet not only did she make the dress look like it was built for my body, Galina literally BUILT ME A NEW BODY! I had an absolutely fantastic experience with Galina. Brought in a vintage wedding dress that clearly had NOT been made for me with only a little more than a month left before the big day ... I was super nervous about handing it over to anyone, but I also knew that I needed some serious alterations. She told me the price up front and when I could expect the dress. I asked her to take a look at an ancient coat i was wearing regarding the lining and she gave me the honest opinion and pricing. I have mixed feelings for Elegant Mode. I brought my wedding dress here to be altered over three months before my wedding. I understood it wasn't an easy dress to alter but Galina assured me she could do it although she couldn't give me a price. A stain appeared on the dress at my second fitting and she pointed it out, stating it was there when I brought it in. I'm positive it wasn't but there was nothing I could do so I said nothing. The second to last fitting she had made the dress to tight and told me she would fix it. However when I went to pick up the dress it was still too tight. The day I was to pick up the dress she was not ready as she had forgotten I was coming that day. She told me the dress wasn't finished and I would have to come back the next day! I was rather surprised that even with three months time the dress was still being altered the day before I was to pick it up. Additionally, she called me that evening to ask if my dress had buttons! In the end the dress was gorgeous and fit well. Additionally the price seemed reasonable, $400. However, the day of my wedding, as I was being zipped up the zipper broke! not just got stuck but literally broke, unzippable broke! So I had to be sewn into my dress. Later in the evening the boning she put in my dress came out and poked me at the top and bottom leaving me with scars all over my hip! Due to this experience I'm not sure that I would recommend Elegant Mode Tailoring. They are very nice and do good work, but they seem to leave things to the last minute and end up cutting corners (like my zipper!) read more

This review in no way applies to Galina - she is excellent, and if you need something tailored definitely go see her. HOWEVER, whatever you do, DO NOT give them your shoes to fix. I left seven pairs of shoes with them for just heel and toe reinforcements ONLY and they not only did a shoddy job with those, they "polished", read painted over, each one of them without asking me. A purple pair of shoes was turned dirty brown, a gold shimmery heel was painted tan, black patent leather was ruined, a two-toned platform was dyed mahogany, etc. When I started to cry in the shop (note, I never yelled), the woman in charge of the shoes, Zoe, started yelling AT ME, like it was my fault they messed them up. When I asked for my money back, she slapped it in my hand and screamed even more. I wasn't even asking for all of it back, because I recognized they did put labor into it, but she gave it all back to me and had the audacity to keep screaming at me, even as I walked out. Galina, to her credit, mostly stayed out of it. Pasquale Shoe Repair was fortunately able to undo most of the damage, but to the tune of $200. All in all, it makes me really sad that this happened, because Galina is truly excellent, and I'm not comfortable going back there at all anymore. read more

I keep hearing how wonderful Galina is but the first time I called her she told me to call back when it was only 2 months until my wedding. The second time I called closer to my wedding date and she didn't even call me back. When I finally did get her on the phone she told me she was going on vacation and couldn't take any more clients. I made an appointment here for last weekend for a wedding dress fitting. However, when I got there with my dress in hand, there was a handwritten sign on the door that said "closed until Monday". I had made an appt weeks in advance for a specific time, but no one bothered to call and let me know that they had closed unexpectedly. I left Galina a message about what happened and she called back and said she didn't have my phone number, but I think a well-run business would have asked for a customer's phone number before booking an appt. I've been bringing my clothing here for alterations for about a year now, and I absolutely love Galina -- her energy, conversation, vibe, craftsWOMANship... Of course there are other less expensive places you can go, but I've had that awful experience of having things I've loved ruined elsewhere, and I know my garments will come out looking and fitting awesomely in her hands. I've had everything from jeans hemmed (original hem reattached), to waistlines of dresses and pants taken in, to leather jackets completely reworked; and I won't take my clothing anywhere else. Literally walked in this morning to get an estimate on a dress hem... When quoted $80 for the hem I was a little surprised, but willing to pay since it's a bit of an emergency, and it's two layers that needed to be shortened. When I took the dress back from the woman I was about to go try it on with my high heels so she could mark it, when she all of a sudden said, "fine do it yourself then!" I was like....wait, what just happened. She went back behind to her sewing machine and left me in the lobby...I was really confused. I was willing to pay, but not after that kind of customer service. I called ahead of time, considering I had no idea how busy a seamstress can be. She was pleasant and arranged a convenient appointment time. My maid of honor dress was way to long and needs some adjustments. Galina took her time, had me try the dress on while she did some measuring and adjusting. I've been getting my clothes tailored by Galina for over ten years. And I have used several tailors in the area. She's a true, old-school artisan who is very talented and experienced. She's done everything for me from difficult alterations on a vintage wedding dress to pant hems to re-weaving a beloved cashmere sweater that had many moth holes. Her prices are very reasonable - in mid range (cash only) and she's very consistent with quality. With other tailors (even high end ones) I've had to go in for more than one fitting. But Galina has often been able to knock it out in one shot which is a huge timesaver. She's got a great eye and knows the subtle adjustments that elevate your clothing to fit you perfectly. So if you're unsure about how well your clothes are fitting, just take it in and ask her. She'll give expert advice on what should get done, and what it will cost. She can get busy especially during wedding season but now with Covid, this is an ideal time to get her services. She is generally consistent with her hours, but best to call to confirm as sometimes she takes vacations or will just have her helper covering for her. She's been consistently accurate with her timeframes which for me have been about 1-2 weeks on simple to medium difficulty alterations. But if you need something by a hard deadline, just ask upfront and she'll be honest about whether she can do it. Personality-wise, she's like your no-nonsense auntie who will tell it to you straight, works hard and takes great pride in her craft (as she should). I will be at a loss if she ever retires. read more
