The store location is good and there is always sufficient parking. They take both appointments and walk-ins. One thing to be aware of: This business, Elegance Massage on NE 28th, is an established massage business that is owned by a woman and has been around for many years. But recently, a separate business called Elegance Spa, owned by a man, popped up a couple miles to the north on NE 117th Ave. After Google Maps sent me to the wrong location, I asked Elegance Massage about Elegance Spa. It turns out these two business are not in any way connected or related. Instead, Elegance Spa is trying to piggyback and capitalize on the familiar name and good will of Elegance Massage. This time the massage was not good. I don't think a customer should have to tell the massage therapist to cut her nails and not run them down a customer's back. She left a scratch on my arm and twisted on my ankles too much. She was going way too fast too. Not enough deep tissue work at all. I told her not to pop my fingers and then she tried to pop my toes. I see no reasons to do that. Rubbing my stomach felt invasive. Crushing my ear hurt. Just overall not good. She only left two stones on my back. Yes, the ladies there do not speak English very well. However Jenn worked on my back from different angles for almost a whole hour almost without stopping. Huge language barrier made for an awkward, very unpleasant experience. Cindy was absolutely wonderful! I called last minute after I got off work and she told me she would save a space for me. She not only kept her promise but she did a spectacular job. She checked to make sure the pressure wasn't too hard and massaged every muscle. I didn't realize how much I needed that. I received a confirmation text with lots of emojis the morning off and I replied to confirm again. I took the afternoon off and was looking forward to the appointment. About 5 minutes from my destination, and 10 minutes before the appointment began, the phone rings and then when I didn't answer (driving) I received a text that the person in front of me was delayed and they had to push my appointment back an hour. What the heck? At that point, you tell the late person no and to reschedule.. don't screw over someone else. I responded that moving my appointment an entire hour when I was 5mins away was not good for my schedule and to cancel it. I won't try to go back. The texts with emojis were nice, but the customer service wasn't the best, especially considering the $$ I was going to pay for a 2hr massage that then didn't happen. I had my reservations about getting a massage at a strip mall. when I pulled up I first noticed an ATM out front. Kinda weird, but okay. The inside was clean, kinda dark. I was brought back to my room and saw there was a sign about not asking about prostitution. Totally weird. I was asked if I wanted a soft or hard massage. I chose hard. it was mediocre at best. I started laughing at one point as I realized that my nine year old massaged my forearms the same way. when everything was said and done I paid $70 + $5 for a tip. when I handed the money to Angel she said I needed to tip $20 more because she said she worked hard. it's obvious that this lady was not a Licensed massage therapist. This was horrible. The lady at the front desk was on the phone when I came in, didn't get off to walk me back to my room. Once I was there she closed the door without instruction. I asked the lady to focus on my shoulders because that's where I was most tense. She spent most of her time on my legs in which she rubbed very fast with no real pressure release or knowledge of muscles. She also walked on my back which I believe is why the middle of my scapula heart so bad today. She dug her toes into parts of my back which was very uncomfortable then rubbed my lower back with her knees by dropping down and straddling my back. I've received massage for 20 years, and have never experienced one as awful as this. I wanted a one hour relaxation massage, and after being mauled and pelted for 20 minutes, after several requests to use a lighter touch, I decided I was done and wanted to get out of there. She then got her manager on the phone to talk to me about something, and stuck the phone in front of me without an explanation as to what was happening. After the manager was done talking, and had hung up, I asked her who that was, and then she called her again so she could answer that question! It was bizarre and awkward, very unprofessional. The whole experience was bizarre and unprofessional. In looking at other reviews, I can tell that they don't apologize or reassure people that steps to improve will be taken, but seem to blame the reviewer for the problem. I moved to the Portland / Vancouver area last summer and immediately started looking for a good spot for Chinese-style massage. I'm a long-time believer in massage as a key ingredient to maintaining and improving physical health. After getting middling results from several places in both cities I accidentally happened upon Elegance one evening in October -- and my search was over. I've been coming here about every other week since that time and I feel great! I've travelled fairly extensively in Asia, and to a lesser degree Scandanavia -- and over time I've become kind of a massage junkie. The massage therapist at Elegance is truly first-rate. At times I've had pains in my knee or ankle and even without any specific instruction she seems to be able to sort of feel where the trouble spots are and pay them special attention. I'm really really happy that I found this place! A 60-minute massage costs $60 and I usually tip $10. Unlike some of the massage places around, they aren't always after you for bigger and bigger tips -- in fact they seem very appreciative. I've also tried their foot massage with a hot herbal soak which I find to be an awesome way to detox. The location is a little bit hidden -- the shop is located in the Safeway shopping center on the corner of 28th and 112th -- kind of behind Muchas Gracias Mexican restaurant. They could use some better signage on the storefront but it's not that tricky to find -- and once you do find it you'll be glad you did. read more
