This was my second time trying Atom Massage. The first time, I booked with a male therapist, assuming he would provide deeper pressure since I prefer a firm massage. I was completely wrong. Despite repeatedly asking him to apply more pressure, I eventually decided to end the session early. They sent in a female therapist instead, and she was fantastic. However, she stopped after an hour even though I had paid for 90 minutes, so I had to remind her. While I appreciated the quality of her massage, I was disappointed that no discount was offered for the disruptions. Because she did such a great job, I booked with her again--but this time, the experience was completely different. She didn't ask about my pressure preferences or problem areas, and I had to request deeper pressure multiple times. She seemed rushed, as if she just wanted to get through the session. Had I not experienced her skill before, I might have considered it an average massage, but knowing what she was capable of made it all the more frustrating. I won't be returning. Time to explore other options. read more

Wife and I came in for couples massage. My wife had a female therapist and she did a good job. I had a male who did not do a good job. He was all elbows and pushed and released quickly. 80% of the massage was with blanket covering me. Ask to leave time for my thighs and knees and he spent 1 minutes on it. If you go in make sure you get a female. read more

Ahh so relaxing! My sister and I made appointments for 60 minute Swedish massages. We came in 10 minutes beforehand to complete our paperwork and they were ready for us! The massage felt wonderful and she checked in with me about pressure. I'm a wimp, so I usually need lighter pressure and she accommodated. It was so very relaxing and a great value. Woke up on Sunday morning with an excruciating knot in my left shoulder and stiff back. I called a few massage parlors with no success. Out of desperation, I posted to NextDoor a request for recommendations. A neighbor came through with a suggestion for Atom, saying that they usually are able to fill last-minute requests. I was able to be seen in 1/2 hour! The salon is modern, conveniently located in downtown, staff is very polite and accommodating, massage was brilliant with essential oil and hot stones. Price was better than most other places and they offered me a coupon for my next visit. The only possible improvement would be if they took Kaiser Insurance. I wanted to love this place! It hosts a clean, relaxing, spa-like environment and friendly staff. However, the 60 min. reflexology massage was more expensive than anywhere else I've been and I don't feel the price warrants it. Despite telling my massage therapist that I'd like a bit more pressure (a couple of times), the massage felt very Swedish-style. Most disappointing is that she did not have me turn over and do any work on my back at all and no attention to my shoulder. My husband and I took advantage of the living social deal for a couple's reflexology/massage. We went on a day when my hubby's back went out on him. Joy worked on him and my husband was amazed at how great his back felt again!! I was thrilled for him too! The staff there are super nice and friendly. The place was meticulously clean and I appreciated the nice touches in their decor. They aimed well at making you feel relaxed and comfortable! My one small suggestion is to lower the volume of music that is played in the a massage room. It was at times overkill, especially when an upbeat tune was played. Hard to stay in that 'zen state' when all you hear is the loud tempo. Overall, a place worth visiting! I really hope this great business succeeds here. Let me start of by saying that the staff was nice enough. However my massage was nothing but uncomfortable and awkward. My friend and I went for a couples hot stone/CBD deep tissue massage. There was no discussion with the therapists beforehand as far as injuries, pressure, etc. They do have you fill out a form indicating trouble areas and desired pressure, which didn't seem to matter anyway because my therapist just did whatever he wanted. My therapist stood so close to the table while working that a few times, I felt his penis graze my arm and hand. He wasn't doing it on purpose, but it was still really unsettling for me. Since there was a language barrier, I was using physical cues like moving my arm away and shifting my body over to the opposite edge of the table. He was also leaning his upper body on me the whole time while working and his shirt was constantly grazing my back. The last straw came when he was standing at the top of the table doing strokes down my back and leaning the entire weight of his upper body right on the top of my head , crushing my neck and hurting me. I was very obviously flinching and trying to move my head away from him, trying to indicate to him that he was hurting me, but he wouldn't stop. What was even more distracting was because he didn't understand much English, the other therapist working on my friend had to constantly stop to translate what I was saying, disrupting my friend's massage also. I finally just told my therapist to stop. The other therapist came rushing over and informed me they'd be switching and he would then work on my friend, without even asking my friend if that was ok with him. She then said to me, "Oh, you're just not comfortable with a male therapist." Which isn't the case, It was because his body mechanics were bad and it was impacting my massage negatively. What galls me the most is that when I tried to speak to the manager about it, she also insisted that I was just uncomfortable because I had a male therapist. Almost as if she was unwilling to lay any of the fault on the therapist and blame me for the entire situation. This place is a waste of money and I will not be returning. read more

Massage was not what I was looking for. The location is great - clean and relaxing atmosphere and if you're looking for just a "spa day" relaxation massage this is the place for you. I however was looking for a deep tissue massage with exclusive emphasis on a couple areas on my back. I made it clear to work exclusively on those areas before the massage and multiple times during the massage and the therapist would brush over my pain areas but not really work on the knots and pressure points - it seemed like he was mostly focused on doing his routine massage and calling it at that. I used a Groupon to get a couple's massage. It was amazing. Both my husband and I felt like well kneaded dough. The place is new, clean, well decorated, and the staff friendly. Something to note, they did both leave room at one point t without telling us if they would be back. We started to get up thinking the massage was over. But it wasn't. They went to get warm wet towels to whipe the excess oil off of our backs...which is fabulous. Their prices are totally reasonable too. All in all my husband are already talking about when to get another massage. A few suggestions: let the customers know when they are taken to the room to get undressed and on the table. Also let them know when you leave the room and that you will be right back. Also, after our massage I lost my wedding ring and came back to your place to look for it. The "open" sign and lights were on and door open. I came in, calling out for someone but no one was there. I was able to walk back into the massage room to look for my ring. My husband also did the same thing ten minutes after me. A word of advice, if you are not by the front door, lock it. For your own safety sake, that is a huge liability for you to have the front unattended. It may seem like a sleepy downtown, but it only takes one opportunistic person. Yesterday was my first visit, my first treatment here at Atom MS. I was very happy to have discovered it. Joy was the staff member giving me my treatment. It was very therapeutic. I felt the pain loosen right away. and although it was deep tissue, it was truly relaxing. Enough so that I fell asleep several times! The atmosphere is so clean and minimalist, it is soothing to my overstimulated mind. The staff are warm, and the therapist is almost impersonal as he focuses exclusively on your service, which to me is a positive! He is very skilled, and I received so much benefit~ Room for improvement: The music that was playing would stop for long periods of time before restarting which was disruptive to my floating on air sensation.
