This electrical supplier has been here ever since I can remember. I was surprised that it managed…read moreto stay open through a changing market and a deep recession, but it did. These days' people prefer to go online or go to a cheap major retailer for their electric good needs. Yet this shop seems to not have been too affected by this. The prices and selection here are varied. Some of the items on offer are a lot cheaper than what most would expect from a small retailer, some are way more expensive than their competitor's prices. The best thing about Denman's is that they can order in anything you like and this can range from anything in the consumer electronics field. The shop has a family feel to it and I am all for supporting independent businesses, so I'm sure to come back here again.

Perhaps this is how they do stick around, by supplying all of Kings Heath's obscure electrical needs. Well anyway I was very pleased on my return home to find the cable fitted this strange lamp, thus allowing me to illuminate my cellar, explore the cob-web riddled space and to begin entertaining ideas of using it for storing fine wine and cheese or hosting poker games or something less sophisticated, like throwing lots of useless, semi-unwanted house trash into. Anyway, Denmans have a lot of things of this sort, which without them or with faulty ones make a lot of daily activities almost impossible. I am grateful for Denman's presence on the Kings Heath high street as now, with their very important involvement, I have finally made acquaintance with my cellar. And that's just wonderful.

Paying i got attitude by the reception refusing to give me my change. two and a half years later i returned the PC after it failed a BIOS update leaving a black screen. Still under warranty by HP of 3 years but a simple fix. I was charged £$79.50 by mike when actually £75 said for transport to repair. Then told by another assistant it included diagnosis which was argued with by MIKE. I was told any replacement was extra but had to be agreed. A few days later i was told my motherboard was replaced with new at £230. I refused they put back my old one. In talks with repair i learned they always replace then repair what they take for future repairs. This was not as they state as they say they replace with new under insurance. I learned that Dixons carphone warehouse had bought out Currys 10 years ago after admitting an insurance scam training staff to sell insurance toi the insured. It made over £480 million and fine of 40 million. A TV I purchased had them halve the insurance cost after i refused it ut though then insured they refused to refund, repair or put in writing their refusal. It seemed the insurance scam was updated and rather than relie on breakdowns repair set to insuring them. I felt trapped so agreed to pay if they returned my property my motherboard with my rep[aired PC. They finally agreed but wanted paying up front. Stupidly i agreed but no motherboard and i refused delivery. I phoned repair they said they wanted another transport payment £75 to return it. Not accepting delivery they couldn't and i asked for proof the new motherboard was new and they refused. I complained and they said i misled them as both items by then were in store. They wanted the receipt for the extra £75 i didn't pay. It was under warranty they got the new motherboard and kept it offering no proof they didn't fix my motherboard then said they threw away my motherboard as useless then found it again stripped of every useful part. My repair was simple at no cost they made £79.50 =£230 then selling my old motherboard as new another £230 they admitted training staff to steal before and kept the staff. Safe in the assurance that to take them to court would cost too much as they continually rewrote the truth. They now say they will auction my PC or charge rent though promised if not as stated returning my motherboard i would get a refund, they then refused.

The location is pretty good, opposite the new Primark on High Street, and just off New Street and outside the Bullring. The selection here is pretty good, with a fast lift in-between the two floors, the upper floor has the better selection including laptops, printers and some cool blenders at some of the best prices I've seen on the high street. The store layout could have been improved to include more essential and common items PC World are known for downstairs, although I do respect that some larger and heavier items would need to be located on the downstairs level to avoid transportation upstairs etc. The staff seemed friendly enough, greeting me as I came into the store even just before the store closed which was a bonus, rather than being like "Ugh, can't you come back tomorrow? I want to go home" which is an attitude many other stores, including a few nearby, seemed to give off. Shame.

I got a pair of Wharfedale floor standers for under 100 quid. Money well spent and my sound system is pristine. The staff at Richer really know what they are talking about. They don't go for the high pressure sales technique, they just let you browse and they answer any questions that you may have. This branch is a flagship store and I wouldn't go anywhere else for my consumer electronic needs.

Richer Sounds have a nice line in bookshelf speakers too, and starting at around £20 for a pair they are amazing value for money. Also look out for discontinued lines of equipment that are bought in bulk at cut-prices and the savings passed on to you. With home-cinema systems being an impressive and (somewhat) affordable installation in your dwelling, the shop also has this mode of entertainment covered well with a stack of gear to suit whatever space you might have available.

The Hotpoint stopped working on 2 January 2025. I called the store for advice and was told: "Google it. We sell washing machines, not repair them." I asked to speak to Tony (who delivered and installed the machine) for advice and was told he was unavailable. I called the holders of ten-year guarantee and was told parts were covered but they had to recommended by an approved engineer, callout charge £149. A local washing machine engineer came to inspect the machine and concluded the appliance was beyond repair and would need to be replaced. Effectively, it was scrap: remember it was 27 months old. I accept that Direct Discount prices are unbeatable and that, after several years of buying products, the occasional rogue appliance is likely. But the offhand response to the problem ("Google it") left me wondering about the after-sales service, such as it is.

Well, that's not an issue with Electro Centre on Soho Road, Handsworth. It was actually recommended to me by a friend who lives in the area, as she suggested, the prices were decent and the electronic goods are in a great condition. I bought a 32inch TV from there for just over £200 and received a good service from the staff members at Electro Centre. They were really helpful to me and my boyfriend and gave us as much time to make our decision without being pushed into buying a particular item; as this is sometimes the case in much larger stores. The TV came with 12 months guarantee in case it gets damaged or there is an electronic fault. We've had our TV for a month or so now and it's in great working condition; at least we have the reassurance that if anything happens in the next 11-10 months we can hopefully get it repaired.

Well, the service i recieved from the moment i walked in and started staring at a big beautiful 4k tv right at the front of the store was impeccable. It seems nowadays that many businesses employ mindless, sell-hungry drones that i just can't stand! At the solihull store however, i found Matt and i think his manager...to have a fantastic sense of humour, huge amount of knowledge of their products and still managed to maintain a very professional manner and even carried my big tv to the car, parked around the corner in a multi story!! When i got home after my purchase i had some trouble hooking up my surround speakers to my existing amp. Luckily! They had given me the store number and said to ring if i had any problems, i took advantage of this kind offer and called the next day. Again, the service i recieved was fantastic. I'm not sure who i spoke to at the store but they were brilliant. It took me all of 5 minutes to get my amp on the right setting, position my speakers in the room correctly for me and test it to make sure everything sounded right.
