As part of our big Bank Holiday clearout, I finally decided to get rid of my DS Lite and several games I had accumulated over the years (this was mainly down to receiving a 2DS for my birthday in March). I did the cursory look online to see how much I could get for trading it in and the best price by miles was offered by CeX.
Now, I am not a huge gamer and don't have several consoles and games lying around at home, so as such, I had never had reason to visit this CeX before. I had popped in to it's previous incarnation in Priory Square shopping centre (as their box set selection was pretty darn good), but hadn't been to this much larger, brighter store.
The unit has been a Model Zone and much further back, a Music Zone (remember that?) and is a big space sunken from street level. There is a big selection of DVD's and CD's, but the main focus is the games and the tech at this branch.
On my visit, the first stop was the trade-in desk. The games were scanned and I was given a good price for them second hand (turns out, cartridge games are pretty much always worth a few bob). For my DS, this had to be tested before they would accept it. Fair enough, I thought and toddled off to do my weekly shop before heading back to store to find out if they had accepted it (this took around 45 minutes).
Everything was a go and I got around £20 (that's trade-in price only) for my old White DS Unit. Now, that doesn't sound like a lot... but considering that some online retailers were quoting me £4 - £9 for it, I thought this was a significant improvement. The service was swift and friendly - especially when I had chosen a RPG game for my 2DS and (as it turns out) you can't play imported games on a UK Model *shakes fist at the sky*. They took the game and tried it out in one of the units they had in store just to check before they sold it - saving me the hassle of getting it home, trying it and then having to return it.
I didn't end up picking up anything to play that day, but will keep popping in to see what's been delivered. Again, the store is large with a good selection of games and the staff are friendly and helpful. What's not to like? read more
