Faust Harrison Pianos In Santa Monica recommended Adel as their "go-to expert" for Yamaha electronic pianos and keyboards after I encountered an issue upon purchasing a new Yamaha NU1XA hybrid piano from them. Adel promptly came to my studio, opened and fully inspected the piano, and fixed it (a display mounting piece had been inadvertently left in the piano before transport, which was impeding the action of some keys). I subsequently had a question about the sound of certain piano samples (limited to those samples, and only speaker playback, not through the headphone system). Adel thoroughly investigated this, advocated with Yamaha to replace the treble speakers, obtained new speakers from Yamaha, and replaced them. I was -- and am -- very grateful for this. In addition, during the times he was at my studio to address these issues, we extensively discussed his prior work for Yamaha and on their equipment. I have an original DX7 (first version) synthesizer, with a rare system board upgrade to a Grey Matter board, and was considering selling it but needed the battery replaced (soldered to the circuit board and difficult to access, and necessary to save the 10 banks of presets on the synth), and two keys were inoperable. Adel had worked on DX7s extensively in the past, including Grey Matter upgrades; after discussing these issues in detail with him it was obvious that he was a very knowledgable expert about this equipment. I retained him to work on this keyboard, and he did a truly exceptional job. Hee not only replaced the battery, but as he had done on others in the past, he upgraded the battery design by installing a new housing with wires that (1) now allows easy access to the battery without having to remove the circuit boards and (2) replaced the rare and specialized battery Yamaha had used (which, in Yamaha's defense, lasted decades) with a common watch-style battery. He fixed the two keys that were inoperable, and fully cleaned the interior and exterior of the synth. It now works and looks like new! The only downside is that now I don't want to sell it (Adel mentioned, and I concur, that the original DX7 had/has a "legendary action" -- it's extremely sensitive/responsive, which is the primary reason I held onto it for so many years . . . and now, probably for more years)! I was having an issue where some of the keys were randomly playing louder than the others. He serviced the entire keyboard assembly, and replaced all of the key contacts and hammer felt. I reached out to Adel from a referral at Piano Concepts down in FV before they closed and wanted to repair my clanky hammering of the keys on the Yamaha Clavinova. He made himself available and contacted me to arrange a visit to my place to diagnose the issue. Offer a fair value in repairing my unit and took the extra care in making sure the keyboard keys are upgraded. After about 3-4 weeks, he came over and reinstalled the keys and I test out a few keys and I must say it feels just like new! With his knowledge and expertise in finding ways to repair the keyboard is by far amazing!! Knowing that this unit is discontinued and parts are rarer to find, I am blessed to find him to get the Clavinova back up running as new! I emailed them the issue with my digital piano and Adel contacted me almost immediately via phone. He told me what to look for and how to trouble shoot on the phone before coming over for a house visit. The house visit pricing was quite steep so I definitely wanted to see if I could repair myself instead. My pedals weren't working and Adel told me to make sure the wiring connected correctly from the pedal to the piano itself and to make sure all lines were plugged in correctly. I was fortunate enough to be gifted an old 2004 era Clavinova that did not make any sound when I turned it on, and Adel from EMS was a wizard in getting it fixed. He came to my house, diagnosed the issue, and discovered that there was corrosion internally with a few of the circuit boards. To my untrained eye, everything looked normal, but he found the specific details that were causing the issues, discussed my options with fair pricing, and sourced replacement parts for this discontinued model (I still don't know how he was able to accomplish this!).
