The staff know me after so many years and they know what I like. That feels good as a customer. If I need deli-service I can toss a coin on the level of service I'll get. One time a young clerk stood in front of me and stared. No "hello, may I help you." I smiled as I looked at him and said- "Good morning?" I held hope that my example would help him mirror my behavior and be friendlier to the next person. At the coffee counter, my chances are 70/30 that I'll get poor service. It feels like they're doing me a favor. I drink black coffee. Simple and easy, yet it's usually an awkward experience. The supplement department staff is usually excellent and very helpful. The inventory is good. I usually find what I need. The produce section is well stocked. I like their avocados. I rarely need help, but the staff is always helpful and friendly when I do. I love the self-serve bulk spice and tea section. You can save so much money buying in bulk. Check-out cashiers can be very good and friendly or tepid. Considering how much I'm paying for the privilege to shop here, I shouldn't be so casual about this store, but there are few markets in the area. Customer service is a tough job, I understand.

One was inside, near the bed next to the balcony door, and the other was outside on the balcony, next to a small pile of cigarette butts. The sofa had a large dark stain with what looked like chocolate shavings. In the bathroom, fresh towels were placed on top of an exposed dirty pipe in one of the cubbies under the sink vanity. I'm curious to know why there are any exposed pipes in the first place. I'm sure having exposed pipes violates multiple city and health codes. One unique thing I noticed at this Marriott hotel was that the room had Febreze Car Clip Air Fresheners attached to the AC vents. I've never seen this at any other hotel. I'm not sure if this is standard practice at this hotel or if it was added to this particular room because the previous guest smoked in it. I emailed the hotel general manager, never received a reply or courtesy call. This is not what we expected from a reputable brand like Marriott.

The hotel was pretty clean and the room offered a microwave and fridge. The bathroom was also spacious. There was a gym upstairs and we used it a few times. There were a handful of treadmills and weights. Pretty standard gym amenities. The gym was really clean and they even had fruit and water available in there! If I'm ever in the area again, I would stay again.

The vibe was pleasant and a little bit fancy. No lowly brunch menu here--we had raw fish, medium rare steak, and red wine. I suppose not everyone wants all that before dinner. Nella is an attractive restaurant at the Fess Parker Wine Country Inn. The dining room looked charming, but we opted to sit on the patio, which was comfortable and breezy. Service was great, attentive and prompt. We were in and out in an hour, as planned, but we could've lingered longer. The food was delicious, starting with the $9 bread and butter--French baguette with a bright yellow block of salted Bordier butter. The salmon crudo was fresh and silky, finished with Fresno chile, citrus, passion fruit, avocdao mousse, calamansi vinegar, and fresh basil. My favorite dish, though, was the spring salad, a vibrant assembly of Tutti Frutti Farms sugar snap peas, fava beans, kumquats, calamansi pickled red onions, arugula, pecorino, and rosé vinaigrette. I don't typically go for salads without meat, but this one was superb. For our entrées, we shared a Margherita pinsa and the filet mignon. The pinsa was an airy flatbread, topped with San Marzano tomatoes, fior di latte, basil, and sea salt. The prime cut filet was flavorful and satisfying, cooked a tender medium rare and served with yu choy and green peppercorn sauce. We ordered two Italian reds by the glass, which went well with everything, but especially with the steak. The Grosjean Vallee d'Aoste, a Gamay , and the Clos Venturi Vin de Corse "1769," a Sangiovese Sciaccarellu blend. I'd been to SY Kitchen once before and plan to go to whatever restaurant the group is about to open up in Montecito. These people obviously know what they're doing. We had a lovely lunch at Nella Kitchen & Bar and would recommend it to anyone visiting Los Olivos.

Unfortunately, the experience with management completely undermined that. My husband and I originally booked a Valentine's Day weekend at FriendsInn but had to cancel last minute due to COVID. We were told we'd receive a credit and were helped over the phone the next day to rebook for April. During that call, we agreed to a small price increase (under $100) to stay at the inn, and I have a voicemail confirming that conversation. Two days before our trip, I called to confirm - only to be told they'd need to call me back. That's when we learned we were not booked at the inn at all, but instead in an ADA unit at the Bungalow, at an additional $400 cost. This was the first time we were told about either the location change or the significant price increase. We were also never informed that the inn was under construction. When I spoke with the manager, he admitted (somewhat reluctantly) that our reservation had only been entered into the system three days prior. However, because we didn't have an email confirmation, he refused to acknowledge or take responsibility for the fact that they failed to properly book what was agreed to over the phone. Instead, we were offered a 10% discount, which did little to offset a 150% price increase - and were told we had effectively been "upgraded" to a more expensive room, without our consent or prior notice. The entire situation felt dismissive and evasive. Rather than owning a clear mistake, management deflected responsibility and left us paying for it. It's disappointing, because the property itself is lovely - but based on this experience, we won't be returning.
