Shelby responded promptly to my inquiry, answered all of my questions, and made the entire process easy from the very beginning. I already had my heart set on a lotus flower because I loved the symbolism behind it, but I also let Shelby know that if he thought another design would work better as a cover-up, I was completely open to his professional opinion. He agreed the lotus would be a great choice, and we talked about incorporating color into the design. He was genuinely excited about the project, and he absolutely executed it beautifully. The appointment itself was relaxed, professional, and took about an hour. Shelby explained everything throughout the process, including the possibility that some of the original tattoo could faintly "ghost" through during healing and that, if it did, he'd happily touch it up at no charge. I really appreciated his honesty and the fact that he stands behind his work. On top of that, the atmosphere was great. He had an awesome playlist going and even introduced me to a band I'd never heard before--The Teskey Brothers (check them out!)--which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. He has done so much of my work over the years, and every piece has meaning behind it. Some of my tattoos represent love, loss, family, femininity, death, transformation, and different chapters of my life. He has taken all of those ideas and turned them into artwork that actually feels like me. What I appreciate most about Chris is that he is a true artist, not just someone who can tattoo. I can bring him an idea, sometimes without even knowing exactly how I want it to look, and he knows how to take that idea and make it work with my body and with the tattoos I already have. His black and grey work, shading, detail, and ability to blend completely different pieces together is incredible. Even looking at tattoos he did years ago, they have held up beautifully. Some of my tattoos have also been done during really emotional times in my life, especially the memorial work for my sister Lindsay. Having someone I have trusted for over a decade create something that personal means a lot to me. He understands that these aren't just pictures I'm putting on my body. They tell my story. After more than 10 years of sitting in Chris's chair, I think the amount of his artwork I have on my body probably says more than any review could.
