    8mile run. Pre 15k. Training
    Yasser H.

I had a 15K run to attend, and normally run and practice in my sister's neighborhood, down the street from this park. This time around I wanted a different scenery, so I decided to go to the eldridge park. It was raining pretty much all day, but rain or shine, I had to do my drills. This park is a nice size park. It has a patio area, with a lot of benches and tables for a picnic setting. Next to it is a playground with plenty of activities for children and more benches for patrons to sit. There is a small pond/lake inside the park, in a shape of a loop and I noticed a lot of folks with their fishing rods n reels. I wonder what type of fish is the attraction. There are also soccer fields, where you see bunch of folks trying to score a point for their team. My running trail was all around the field. It was a mile all the way around. Being that it was raining, I had the trail all to myself for the most part. Normally, there are numerous pedestrians walking and jogging on the trail. There is plenty of parking spaces available and there is also some sort of a community center inside the park itself.

This park is huge but needs more seating areas. They mostly have nets for fútbol players but they do have a small playground area for kids and a pond.

overall would recommend this park. there's a nice walking loop around the perimeter. to improve could use a bit more trees for shade. nice fountain feature.

Maybe I haven't given Eldridge park a fair shake *shrug* but it just isn't that great. It is definitely huge and caters to the needs of soccer playing children in the area, but the landscaping and terrain has much to be desired. I live not far away and rarely visit this park. The place is overrun on some days with children playing sports, etc... I think of this park like much more of a sports area than a "park". There is a long running train and a bunch of soccer fields. there are also bathroom facilities and parking. I visit this park every year to drop off my Christmas Tree. This is one of two locations set up by the city of Sugar Land for Christmas tree recycling. In the parking lot there is a single sign and a huge pile of trees where you can leave yours. Your tree has to be free of any metal, tinsel, ornaments, etc... The city will recycle the tree and turn it into mulch. Years ago they actually had people out there mulching the trees on the weekend and you got a free bag of mulch in return for your tree. Now, you just drop it and go. I guess I've been spoiled by the layout and beauty of Oyster Creek Park. http://www.yelp.com/biz/oyster-creek-park-sugar-land Even though Oyster Creek Park is farther away from me (other side of 59), I much prefer it to Eldridge.

Nice neighborhood park located in the older part of Sugar Land. There are large parking lots, covered area with panic tables, playground for the kiddos, numerous soccer fields, small pond for fishing, and two looping concrete walking/jogging trails. Not much in term of scenery with the exception of the pond, but good for people watching. I enjoyed my walking exercise at the park and wouldn't mind returning.

A great park to come hang out or walk your dog. The park is pretty big with an abundant of parking. There are tables under a canopy that you can chill and benches. There is also a nice fountain and wide area of grass where you can play sports. It wasn't crowded when we came on a summer afternoon. However, this Houston weather was simply too hot to sit and enjoy the scenery.

Eldridge Park is a public park with soccer fields, picnic areas, meeting facilities, a paved 0.4 mile loop trail around a pond, ducks, geese, restrooms, and a huge parking lot. In daylight, there are always people here whenever I drive by. Even at 2 pm under the hot bright Texas afternoon sun there are people walking. Sometimes there are so many people in the evenings that it feels too crowded but that shows how awesome this park is. Negatives are there are sometimes tons of kids running around or bullying the ducks and I prefer a gravel trail to the concrete trail path. Also, lots of annoying mothers with strollers like to walk slowly and lots of women walking side by side don't move to single file when people pass in the opposite direction. This park has a small sample of Houston's ethnic diversity. Also, people of all ages and fitness levels come here--elderly folks to toddlers and possible triathlete contenders to overweight sloths like me. The outer loop (back path along the fence perimeter and front path around part of the lake) is 1.07 miles. The loop around the lake is 0.4 miles. The lake is small but there are lots of waterfowl in it. Lots of domestic ducks have been dumped here throughout the year. Sure you have the herons, egrets, pelicans, seagulls, black-bellied whistling ducks, ring-necked ducks, and even wild mallards. However, there are a lot of domestic mallard derivatives and non-feral muscovies abandoned here by human owners. If you have unwanted ducklings or goslings, don't leave them at Eldridge Park. Eldridge Park is a terrible environment for ducks. There is not enough year-round tree and bush cover to provide the ducks with shade. The park should plant more trees that provide year-round shade for the ducks. The lakeshore is also too close to the driveway entrance to the parking lot and Eldridge Rd. I often find the ducks in the ditch right next to Eldridge Rd or the Walgreens parking lot. The ducks often cross the driveway entrance to find more shade or nutritious soils. The park should put up a "Ducks Crossing" sign to warn drivers to watch out for ducks. I have seen a dead muscovy-pekin hybrid duck on the side of the road once. In early 2014, an Egyptian goose was also killed by a car. The park is next to a Walgreens so you can buy stuff if you forget anything. The park parking lot is accessed from Eldridge Rd via Nantucket. Just turn west at the Nantucket traffic light (opposite direction from the Barrington Place neighborhood).

No filter. Nature at its finest.

My favorite park in Houston!!! It makes running more enjoyable because I get to see the splendid fountain that spits out water continuously. On a windy day, the fountain provides a "cool off" method for me because I get a mist of water on my body as I circle around the fountain. The short running trail has a mile marker which I've never seen at any other parks. 2 miles = 5 laps around the short trail circle. One lap around the long trail = 1 mile. The park has two spacious restroom segregated for men and women. Nearby the restrooms...you can see a small playground for kids and a grass area mainly used for soccer games. To the left of the restroom, there is a small recreation room that is usually reserved for karate lessons, private party, and various events. There is another open grass area that is used by the non-soccer enthusiasts for other activities like Frisbee, baseball, and etc. Behind the small recreation room, there is an open seating area with benches and tables so you can have a small get together with your friends/family. The park usually gets crowded during the late afternoons-early evenings, but there is plenty of parking. A lot of people take their dogs here. They have two doggie bag stations so you can pick up your dog's #2 business. A great place to burn off calories, relax your mind, and hang out with your loved ones. Go check it out!

Part of the issue is that the official maps and what's on google maps is very incomplete. There are a lot of other paths that aren't on the map that just kind of appear. If you don't cross over any bridges, you'll be inside the official part of the park and worst case, you just circle back around, but if you do go over that Crossover bridge, you'll be treated to some nice hiking, but there is no other way to circle back around because the 2nd bridge will put you in the "uncharted" part of the park and take you to the Pumpkin Lakes and you will have to come back the same way you came. This is kind of a shame and hopefully in time, they'll add another pedestrian bridge near Red Gully Lookout, but hey, you're there to walk so this is a way to walk more! For some reason, even though this is right next to an airport and a large suburban neighborhood, the GPS keeps going wonky too so don't count on that too much. This was my first visit with some other people who had never visited the park so I think we all became experts in the park and won't get turned around next time but a few extra signs wouldn't have hurt to help newcomers.

Once we were tired of playing in the sun, we ran across one of the open field areas to the tree covered playscapes. They were covered in pollen but still fun to play in (good thing we all took our allergy medicine cause we were all yellow once we were done with the slides!!) Lots of climbing choices and slide choices from short to long, straight to curly, and wavy and even parallel bars that I think you slide down on? My adult sister did it so it could work? Lol! Great hidden gem of a park!! I love that there is so much green space around the play area and no open roads so I don't have to worry about my kids running into traffic. It is also close to shopping centers so we could pop over after a trip to the park for refreshments, some A/C, or to run an errand or two. If you have not been here yet, please visit! It is located to some baseball fields so sometimes the area will have lots of cars parked on the street during the games. The location has a private parking lot so it's never an issue to find an open spot. Going in the interior is pretty nice and clean for the most part. The only part that I found wasn't as clean was the bathroom. Honestly, its a gym, I didn't expect to much from that. The gym area is split into two basketball courts (full court-sized). The facility changes the layout of the gym to fit the different activities that people will take part in onsite. I've gone to play table tennis and basketball so I can offer insights on what takes place during those two sports. 1. Table Tennis: There are 5 tables and generally will all be in use. However, most of the time there wouldn't be too much of a wait time if at all. Generally people will just play doubles if there are too many people. Plus, people come and go, so it's not a big issue. 2. Basketball- When both courts are in use. They split it into two different sides. One side will have a full-court game going on. The other will have 3 baskets down and can potentially have three cramped half-court games going on. During these times the place is PACKED. This is especially so during holidays when lots of the schools are out on holiday. Bonus: I would definitely recommend checking the activity schedule before you go. It wouldn't be fun to show up expecting to play something when it's something else set up in the gym. They offer physical calendars on-site or you can just look it up on their website. Membership fees for individuals who are from Sugar Land is $10 for the whole year! Pretty amazing. I believe for those who are not from SL, it is currently $40 for the whole year which isn't a bad deal either honestly.
