I met Felicia of Elder Care Management at a Del Oro affiliated information session for caregivers. I have been to many training sessions and events related to the caregiving journey, and I have spoken with many individuals about my loved one's complex care needs. Felicia stood out many months ago as the most expert and empathetic in understanding what to do to provide for the best care for a loved one with cognitive decline or memory issues. I kept the pen she handed out, and when the need arose and we exhausted all free resources, I reached out to her organization for an objective view into how my loved one was doing and what we could do to better provide for her care. She has provided excellent service and I highly recommend her for your Elder Care Management needs. It was worth every penny. I only wish I worked with her sooner. We recently contracted with Felicia to provide an analysis and assessment of my loved one's needs in her current memory care community. The insights and peace of mind she provided us about my loved one's care were invaluable, and she was so thoughtful, professional, efficient, and responsive. My loved one recently moved to a new "board and care" with 5 other ladies just like her. Felicia recommended the care home along with other recommendations such as a geriatrician referral and techniques to simplify and provide better care. I cried with relief when I saw all that the new care home did to provide the highest standard of care. It had become evident my loved one needed a smaller setting and one-to-one care 24/7. Senior communities (even memory cares) cater to people who have a fair amount of independence still and don't have as many needs. When their needs increase, the communities do not keep up nor do they have the empathy, understanding or appropriate staffing to provide a dignified standard of care. The community where my mom lived failed to provide care in such a glaring way that I could not in good conscience let her remain with it falling so short. We started the search on a Monday and got all the paperwork set for move-in over the weekend. Without Felicia, it wouldn't have been possible, and the care home typically had a waitlist but miraculously had an opening. The last six months we have seen a progressive decline, in part due to the environment not providing for our loved one's dignity and in part due to the disease. It will not get any easier, but it will get more dignified and dependable. The journey has been long and difficult, but through Felicia's guidance, I feel more at ease through the turbulence. In many ways, I feel like I can get my life back since caregiver management has taken up such a huge portion of my time due to its complexity. My family hired Elder Care Management several years ago to manage care for our mother who lived at home and was in her 80's in the Sacramento area. I have also hired care managers as a fiduciary in Silicon Valley area, so have experience with what a good care manager does and provides. First, Elder Care assigned my mother one care manager who is caring and warm, my mother just loves her. And having one person to coordinate with as the family and for my mother to relate to is best. It's funny how I started researching about home care and somehow through some miracle it lead me here... I was able to speak to Gail yesterday, and she was able to help with some referrals for home care agencies. She is so energetic, and I felt so comfortable speaking with her. I have to chime in here. Elder Care came hugely recommended by our financial advisor, who had referred several clients to them over the years. After moving my 90 year old mother to assisted living and dealing with assisted living not doing what they promised (and what we paid for), I contacted Elder Care to help. Working full time and living an hour away made it very difficult for me to stay on top of assisted living, to give my mother the care she needs, deserves, and is paying for. Two weeks after I left a voicemail, I had a call from Felicia. Great introductory call. She would connect me with one of their agents. A week later, Gail called. Wonderful conversation. A few days later I signed an agreement. She met with my mother, brought her an orchid plant, and began to establish trust. So far so good. She emailed the contacts at assisted living, asking for a care review meeting. A week after assisted living did not reply (typical of them), no follow up had been done by Gail. I reached out to see what the next step would be. No reply. I reached out again, and copied Felicia. Again, no reply. So now I have to follow up with the people I hired to follow up with assisted living? This just gave me more anxiety, so I emailed them to end services. No reply to that, either, just an invoice from their billing person. An invoice for $400, which included the orchid! $400 to do what, exactly? A couple meetings/conversations, a few emails, a plant, and no results (I had the plant removed from the invoice, btw - tacky to bring a gift and then charge you for it). I am just so disappointed and let down, and now even more behind in resolving the issues with assisted living. I let our financial advisor know, who also confirmed this is unacceptable service, and won't be recommending this team again. Apparently service was wonderful under prior leadership, but leadership has changed. I do not recommend. read more

I called Elder Care Management and caught Gail as she was on her way to a client. She gave me a great overview of their services with the limited time she had to talk. Gail called back the next day and provided great advice and reassured me that we had made a good choice in nursing care for my mother. I appreciate that Gail took the time to talk even though we would not be using her services at this time. You can tell she cares about people/clients and her job. I can't say enough positive things about Elder Care Management. I was referred to ECM when my mom was showing signs of Dementia. We needed someone to help with getting mom to appointments but mostly, she needed some more social interaction. Gail Arno was my first point of contact and she was great. After Gail got to know my mom she suggested that Piper Jackson would be a good fit. That was a fabulous recommendation. Piper is not only sweet and compassionate but she truly loves my mom. She's been visiting my mom, taking her out for appointments, going out for coffees/snacks/drives, but mostly, just being a friend to my mom and me. Piper updates me on doctors appointments and on my mom's general health. The peace of mind that provides is invaluable. When mom needed more help, due to her progressing Alzheimers, Piper suggested a smaller facility that specializes in the disease and was instrumental in helping us make the move from a large assisted living facility to the smaller place. I live in NY and mom's in Granite Bay, CA so having someone close to her is very important. About 10 years ago my mother and father's health started to decline and as all of their children lived at least 2 hours away, we needed someone close by to help us. We sought the services of an independent geriatric care manager, but not all care managers are created equal! Our first care manager (NOT affiliated with ECM) helped us get in-home care, but then was unresponsive when we asked for additional help and advice. Five years ago, when my mom ended up in the hospital and they moved to discharge her dangerously early, we knew we needed some professional expertise. We called Elder Care Management and they responded immediately with invaluable advice on how to proceed with the hospital, even though they weren't getting paid for the advice. When mom was released to a skilled nursing facility we officially brought them on board to be something like our "professional family" nearby. Their services were night and day from our previous care manger. They accompanied both of my parents on their appointments, even though dad was hesitant to accept help, at first. He was won over quickly as he saw that ECM were sincerely caring and such strong advocates for my mother. When the pandemic hit, they made sure my mother was getting to her 3x a week appointments and they dropped in to visit my dad and bring him food. My parents adored all of the ECM staff, but most especially Piper and Carole. Both of my parents have since passed away, but I know they had a better quality of life because of ECM. I can't thank the staff enough for being there for our family and my parents, literally in the very last moments of their lives. In a strange way, I miss my regular calls with the ECM team.
