I love a place with beautiful wall art.. which is about the only thing that fascinated me about this restaurant besides the coconut horchata which could had use a little more coconut to bring out the essence. My meal (I added hot sauce prior to photo being taken) pissed me off. I ordered carne asada fries, I guess they forgot the asada (pictures are deceiving). On top of that the fries were dry crispy and hard. The entire meal itself, like what happened to beans (Ok, Ok I said no more other cities expectation)?? But what happened to me asking for no onions (lol they served me more onions than asada). I swore I paid a price different from what was pictured on the menu.

Good taqueria foodstuffs. Minus 1 star-restaurant pricing without the complimentary chips and salsa. That being said, the quesabirria broth is delicious and they give a full cup of it. Chips are thicker and "real" (none of that stoneground weirdness). Could use heat on the nachos, like jalapeños. They do provide 3 kinds of sauces (mild, medium, hot) for the table. The al pastor is my favorite, then the carnitas (needs more salt and crispy edges). All in all, it's probably the best taqueria in my neighborhood (Clackamas/Southern Happy Valley).

We recently moved to the area from Tulsa. It's been tough finding Mexican food that could compare. El Zalsoso fits the bill and is our new favorite Mexican place in the PNW. It's a small homey place with great food and service. Anyone giving a negative review doesn't know what they're talking about and is simply nitpicking.

Second time grabbing a bite to eat here! The owner is really kind. Each time we're greeted and he goes through the menu items with us to see what we're craving or if we had any questions. It always helps when I can't decide! I ended up getting the street tacos with carne asada. Last time I got birria tacos. The tacos are soooo good. They're juicy and has the perfect amount of raw white onion and cilantro. They ask you in advance if you want it or not which is nice for those who may unfortunately think cilantro taste like soap- couldn't be me though pack on more greens haha! The tacos are always packed and they give you a bunch of lime wedges. It's in a great plaza area with lots of parking. They have music playing in the background and a few tables if you're dining in. Overall enjoy stopping in!

Some of the best food hands down ever had since being in Portland. Definitely best mexican food spot for flavorful items and great customer service! I got the chicken enchiladas and were to die for! My wife got the street taco plate and loved it! Both the rice and beans were incredible fresh and great ambiance! Would highly recommend to anyone!

Nice little taco shop. The homemade tortillas were delicious. I got the taco plate with 3 Birria tacos, beans, rice, a little salad and grilled jalapeños. The beans & rice were average. Nothing special. Filler on the plate. They could make them amazing if they added some flavor. So get the tacos & maybe try something else. I would go again.

My husband and I love this place! The food is always hot, fresh, and delicious. They have items I've never heard of but glad I tried them. My favorite item is the Huarache with carnitas. So good! It's on a homemade tortilla. The staff is very friendly and patient. The place is always busy when we're there and we're here about once a week.

This place had high reviews so we thought we would give it a try. It was so good! Some of the dishes specified that dish used tortillas hecha a mano (handmade) so I had to get one of those. Beautiful presentation. Great flavor. Yummy sauces they bring to the table. Love it!

You order at the counter, beverages are purchased by the bottle/can out of a cold case & there is a small space to eat-in with maybe 6 tables. Food was fresh, service was top notch & restaurant was clean and tastefully decorated. Their sauces were home made & delicious, 3 different options with varied heat. The menu covers the basics as well as options like asada fries, tortas & sopes. They do offer a kid's menu and assorted sides. Our order was delicious with quality ingredients. Look forward to trying more of their menu & put them on our takeout list!

My shoe repair man recommended this place. Small mall space (similar to Seoul Kitchen in this same mall--and highly recommend) brightened with some wall paintings. Very very friendly and informative guy working here. Melba liked her pastor taco a lot, I had the queso birria tacos--hot, messy, greasy, oozey--wonderful. Prices maybe a little up. They make their own tacos. Want to go back for a machete (the edible kind.)

My husband and I were in the area, and I was hungry. I pulled up Yelp and found El zalsoso not far from where we were, and so we went. They make their own tortillas, so you know it's gotta be good. The seating area isn't huge, but thankfully, there was one table left, and we snagged it. We got the side of rice and beans and an order of chips and salsa. The food was flavorful and crave worthy. We practically licked the plate clean. Service was great, and the folks working the counter were friendly and efficient.

This spot is so delicious and the service is fabulous. I came on a Saturday and it was busy and the boy at the front was still friendly and helpful the entire time. The quesabirria was incredible and the torta was fluffy and amazing. It is small and understated from the outside but please do not let that fool you. Also they play good music and that means a lot.

Located in a strip mall, you wouldn't think much of it but you're missing out if you don't try! This place has delicious street tacos. The meat was high quality! Fresh cilantro, onions, radishes. The rice and beans were flavorful. The person who took our order was very friendly and set us up with hot sauces. The churro was fantastic. I will come back to support them and try the rest of the menu.

The first one I had I couldn't believe how legit it was. Went back two days later just to be sure I wasn't dreaming. Nope, it was just as good. The tortillas really help make it stand out, chewy but crisped up perfectly on the outside. The Pastor and Chicken are both solid, though I do a wish there was a little pineapple in the Pastor. The Street tacos are just fine. Small, but as simple as they should be with just the white onions, cilantro, and accompanying lime wedge. Extra appreciate that they're only $3/each. That's all I've tried so far, but will be a regular visitor for the burrito alone. Their 'dining area' leaves a lot to be desired, but I appreciate that they have a covered area to order and wait in the winter months. Service has been good. The hot sauces are great as well. Also appreciate that they use paper and aluminum foil for the tacos and burritos, rather than more single use plastic. Though I still think they use some. Overall super legit taco truck I highly recommend.

There were many large seating area available. One main cedar table was a big attraction. There is a fireplace with a table by it We got a table. I ordered a Borgona, fruit puree juices mix with Sprite. Never had one, but sounded really good. It came and it was delicious and fruity for a mocktail. We ordered a shrimp ceviche and octopus skewers to start out with. The Shrimp Ceviche was very delicious and it was something that I was very happy to share it with my friends. It was a big portion of shrimp cocktail with salsa on the bottom and these large sized blue chips. It was so good that we ate it quickly. Octopus skewers was a tad charred. Yet very delicious especially if you eat it with the pineapple together. Brings out the flavor of the pineapples quite well. We ordered the Pork Belly Tacos and Mole Shrimp Tacos which came in 3. I absolutely loved street tacos filled with good fresh ingredients. And both of these hot the spot. The pork belly was an absolute great flavor of the pork belly. The Shrimp was delicious. Cook perfectly and easy to devour quickly. DeFuego Nachos had Jalapenos. But wasn't listed. The nachos were delicious and it was quickly devoured. Wings came in 4 wings with garlic parmesan with carrots and celery and ranch on the platter. Heavily garlic on the wings yet very delicious. Half wedge salad was a surprise how much there is in the salad. A lot of fresh veggies there with cherry tomatoes and sliced radishes in it. I had a absolutely fun experience celebrating my birthday here. DeFuego had Happy Hour from 3pm to 6pm, seven days out of the week. Seems the Happy Hour here is very popular. You have 21 appetizers to choose from on the Happy Hour Menu. There are Mocktails, and any drinks you want available. Definitely will come back again.

Shoot. Last night I took my boyfriend here to celebrate a special event & we left so disappointed!…read moreWe got there at 7:15 & we were stuck there for over 2 hours! I ordered 2 things and both came out wrong. Our waitress spoke very loudly and we could hear her having long personal conversations with people a couple tables away from us for 10+ minutes at a time, several times. While we waited for her, we ran out of water a few times and I had to ask for more. It was over an hour before our order was even taken. We did flag her down to order an appetizer, brussel sprouts with cheese on the side due to a dairy allergy, but... the sprouts came out with cheese on them. They corrected this fairly promptly, but then we sat for another 45 minutes before our order was actually taken. I ordered a steak as "somewhere between medium & medium well" and she correctly repeated my order back to me "medium/medium well." When the steak came out, it was WELL well done. Like, burnt. I wanted to send it back, but I didn't want to deal with the embarrassment or have to wait even longer for food. We were about an hour & 45 minutes into dinner by the time we got our food. I was so disappointed! I also wanted to get dessert to celebrate the occasion but the service was SO slow that we had to cancel our after-dinner plans. We ordered it anyway & requested the check promptly, giving up on our plans for the rest of the evening. We were only a party of 2, we arrived early for our reservation, & we watched several larger parties come and go while we waited for our order to even be taken. It was a Wednesday night and not overly busy, there were several empty tables, so I'm not sure what the hold up was. We were also seated at an odd table next to the kitchen with a small divider between us and the staff. It was noisy and I even heard 2 staff members exchange a joke about how someone else had left & said they'd never come back. They laughed about it. I wish I had the guts those people had to get up & leave! I've never once left less than a 20% tip and felt immense guilt not tipping well, but after experiencing the poor service then also hearing the staff blatantly acknowledge it & not care.... I was appalled. The Hilton bought the hotel attached to De Fuego and I'm shocked. This was a Monarch hotel before and I'd assume that the Hilton's standards would be higher but the service and quality here have tanked hopelessly low since the acquisition. I had a similar experience at The Underground before it closed. I've learned my lesson & won't come here for a special occasion again.

BONUS: opens until 1AM!…read more My son has been hyping this taco truck up for ages, so I finally checked it out with him last week. We placed a to-go order, $43 total. The tacos were okay at best dry and a bit too salty for my taste. That said, I appreciated the fresh avocado slices we paid extra for and the double tortillas, which held up well against the meat and sauce. Service was fine, but they forgot the red sauce we wanted, and the green sauce they gave us wasn't anything special, we ended up tossing most of it. They did provide a good amount of lime, which helped. I liked the pickled jalapeños, but the pickled carrots were over-pickled and too sharp. They have covered outdoor seating for sun or rain and plenty of parking right off 82nd Ave, which is a plus. They shared this space with a few other trucks. Not terrible, but not memorable enough for a return trip with so many great taco spots in Portland.
