I was looking forward to coming to this taco shop due to all the amazing reviews . Unfortunately the rolled tacos were a miss for me . The inside of the California rolled taco was a bit too mushy for me and the corn tortilla outside was an interesting healthy version . I did really like the fresh guacamole and cabbage topping . The chicken taco was also lacking in flavor along with the salsa. The art work on the walls was great but unfortunately my visit didn't compare to other reviews
We truly had so many excellent meals while vacationing in SD and this would certainly be on our list of Top 3. The place was adorable - artsy, welcoming. Communal seating maximizes the cozy space. The lady taking our orders was patient and focused and helpful. And the food was delicious! I'm grateful they had 2 different vegan/ vegetarian options and both tasted good. I cannot believe - and can hardly find the words to describe - how good the gluten-free churros are! Melt in your mouth delicious and oh that chocolate syrup with it!
Consistently great. We had the shredded beef and the California rolled taco. The California with the shredded beef and mashed potatoes are my favorite. The carne asada tacos are also really good. They have expanded their menu to include bowls and street tacos. This place is definitely worth a try.
I've been supporting this place since they opened. Today, I showed up 10 minutes before they opened, and their door was opened. I went inside (it was 90 degrees outside). They let me know they weren't opened yet, which was totally OK. I asked if I could wait inside until they opened (again, 90 degrees outside), the woman with braces laughed and said NO. Won't be coming back. Sad to see the customer service is not what it used to be.
All gluten free! I came here with my boyfriend, his daughter and grandson last night. Myself and his daughter are gluten free which helped make this the ideal place to stop. I ordered two tacos. I got a fish taco and chicken taco. Both were flavorful (still have to order dairy free due to intolerance) and delicious. I added some hot sauce to it and bam it was heavenly. This parking lot was busy af with tight parking spots.
Very excited I found this place! Never thought a rolled taco stand is what I needed in my life but it was. They have the formula down for them for sure. Their shredded beef is juicy and flavorful. I could literally eat an 8 count by myself. They also do not skimp on the toppings which I bet much appreciate. Their rice and salsas are also very delicious The churros were decent but my least favorite part. Too crumbly of a shell (and the taste was odd) and the chocolate sauce was kind of bitter. I really appreciate their fair pricing here which absolutely will keep me coming back. Good amount of seating here (high and low tables). Parking might be tricky depending on when you go. Staff was super friendly! Will be a regular for sure.
The gluten free churros were outstanding - worth a trip within their own right. A kind GF-friend found El Tinaguis and was so smart to recommend getting the churros despite being quite satisfied with the meal. But to start with the meal - after being informed that San Diego is known for tacquitos, we were so grateful our friend found a GF tacquitos spot. Options for tacquitos included a variety of meats and then the option to add additional protein on top. We split the supreme chicken and beef tacquitos along with a rice bowl. All were very tasty - and allowed a perfect opportunity to sample tacquitos. The standout was certainly the churros. They are fresh to order and accompanied by either a chocolate or caramel sauce. They are so tasty, I recommend doubling your order!
Honestly one of my favorite Mexican "taco" shop to go to in San Diego! As the name implies, they are known for their amazing rolled taquitos aka rolled tacos. They are so popular that they basically ask how many you want, not what you want...jk. I mean they'll as least ask what fillings you want. I typically just order the original with no rice or beans. No way you're distracting me from my focus!! Make you sure get their salsas, they don't put it on the tables so you'll need to ask for it. Also low key, not a vegetarian, but the potato roll tacos bomb! The place is clean and has communal tables!
I have Celiac these days, so we drove down to try it out. Their website is bestrolledtacos.com and I'd have to say that's not true. HOWEVER, the guarantee of no cross contamination is a real plus. The taquitos were better than the fish taco, but the four of us agreed that the fillings were universally 'soft'. The coating on my fish taco was so thin that I could see thru it. I make them using a rice flour, turmeric, and soda water mix that really produces a crunch. They could use an upgrade texturally. Note the beans on the combo plate. In one, they have held their scoop shape. They were decidedly underwhelming and the rice was no better. Stick with the taquitos, but unless you need to avoid gluten, I would not eat here.

Solid spot for rolled tacos! We came around 12:15 PM on a Sunday and they were around half full. Parking was pretty easy to find with the designated lot. Inside is pretty spacious with a good amount of seating. Service was nice and pretty quick and brought the food out to us! The 2 of us shared 6 beef regular taquitos and it was enough to fill us up. The taquitos were hot, crispy, filled with tender beef and loaded with toppings! I would come back if I'm craving rolled tacos.

The food was great! Nice and fresh, nothing felt too oily or greasy. The rice and beans could've used like a spritz of lime juice but the mains were delicious. The star is for sure the roller tacos you can customize it so many ways and the crisp tortilla to meat ratio is awesome. Service was a little slow but they were slammed with online orders it looked like. And everything was super clean and welcoming. Hope to be back again soon!

This was my first time here. This is a small but nicely decorated taco shop. This is a true gluten free location. Meaning that there is no cross contamination. I had three tacos. The quality of meat is a great cut of meat. You don't get the chewy parts that you cannot swallow. The roll tacos are good, but have a mush consistency to the meat inside. I am used to a shredded beef in a roll taco. The drinks taste freely made. The workers are polite and fast. They answer all the questions I had. Note: in the taco section. You can I'll see cheese taco. This is melted cheese added to the taco. Not a protein style, where that cheese is used as your tortilla. I will come back, and ask if they can make a Protein Style taco. Hope you see this Owners! read more

They always had the best rolled tacos, super crispy and fresh toppings. They now serve tacos, quesatacos, and churros. I saw that they had a grilled fish taco. I asked what kind of fish it was she said it was tilapia. So I got the ribeye steak taco and a carnitas quesataco. It took a few minutes to come out because it was being made fresh. The tortillas were soft and nicely grilled on the plancha. They were smaller tortillas but they were stuffed full of meat and toppings! The ribeye was nicely grilled, soft and tender and lots of meat. The carnitas quesataco was also very tasty. The cheese was melted into the tortilla and the caritas was tender and flavorful. I also added some of the spicy salsa which added a good heat and flavor. There are a handful of communal tables that you can eat at as well as a self serve water spout. You order at the counter and then sit down. The place is very casual so I was surprised that they brought it to me. This was some of best tacos I've had in a long time. I always knew they had the best rolled tacos, now they also have the best regular tacos too! And as always everything is gluten free. They have their own parking lot that they share with Popeyes. Small and very crowded place. Lots of people in & out for sure. Ordered the taquitos since it's their specialty. I had their supreme beef taquitos with birria. The birria was a nice add on. Good but not the best taquitos I have had. I wished it was more crunchy. 1st bite and last bite at the end was crispy but the rest was soft. Maybe due to the "Mexican" sauce the beef is in. My daughter ordered the California Style (beef, potatoes & cheese) top with carne asada. Her order came out more crunchy. I was excited to try their taquitos because it came highly recommended by a friend. I came earlier this evening and ordered the following for takeout: -Beef flavored taquitos, supreme style w/ birria. -California flavored taquitos, supreme style w/birria. The restaurant is clean and the cashier is friendly. I waited 10-15 mins upon placing the order. The cashier handed me my order and I asked for more sauce, but had to pay for it. They only give 1 sauce per order of 4 taquitos, then 2 sauces for 5 or more. I went home, and it wasn't until I was halfway done with my meal, that I realized what I had received, was not what I had ordered. I ordered the supreme style with birria on top, but there weren't any birria. I called the restaurant 8 times (not exaggerating) until "Monse"(?), I believe was her name, finally answered and as soon as I stated I was just there in the last hour, she apologized and knew what went wrong. She mistakenly gave me somebody else's order, which didn't have birria. She said I could just come in next time and they'll comp my meal for the mistake. I was very frustrated at first, but at least they owned their mistake and "Monse" was friendly. The regular taquitos were okay, though I couldn't taste much meat.. I think 4-5 taquitos is enough for 1 person. read more

Delicious, speedy service, friendly service and inexpensive. Family of 5 total price with a bottle of soda each was under $70. Total steal of a deal! Kids liked it so much they want to go back before we fly out tomorrow night to go home. We each had 3 taquitos with rice and beans and all the toppings. Next time I'd skip the extras and have an extra taquito, they are that good. Plus, if you have celiac disease (like our teen man child), everything the have is gluten free - even the churros! read more

Amazing Mexican food at El Tianguis! I got 3 chicken and 2 California (beef, potato, & cheese) taquitos with the standard toppings. Very delicious! I preferred the chicken. The gluten free churros exceeded my expectations. Nice and fluffy in the inside. Definitely will be back! read more

Each taquito is color-coordinated with little stickers so you can tell what you're eating when you get your plate. This place is legit!! All they pretty much make is Rolled Tacos but, they do have some regular taco options on the menu. Everything is fireee . The rolled tacos have the perfect texture and all the right toppings! They are better than a lot of places. But if all you make is rolled tacos then, what else could one expect! Cool little shop on El Cajon Blvd. Inside is not too big but, if seating is open then you're in luck. Service has always been pretty good. I would definitely recommend trying this place! Only Warning is that the parking lot to this place is Crazzzy and small.... so drive safe!!! Lol read more

This was the BEST 100% gluten free Mexican food I've ever had. 100% gluten free establishment. The food was DELICIOUS and so well priced. We got 2 combo meals and a dessert for under $45! Upon walking in we noticed the fun bright colors inside the restaurant. There's seating all around you. The cashier was super nice and helpful with suggestions. I love that I didn't have to worry at all about anything being gluten free and that the prices were fairly decent for Tex mex food overall - no gluten-free up charge!!! Parking was available but I could easily see it being difficult during a lunch rush. The food was great and with beans and rice will definitely fill you to the brim! They give you sauces from the bottle if you ask for them. Each taquito was labeled with a little colored sticker to indicate what they were. Went here for a nice Saturday lunch with my wife and we absolutely loved this place. It may be the new mexi fix for us. The whole menu is celiac friendly so go crazy if you GF and been craving Mexican cuisine. Our timing was perfect coming here somehow, it was empty-ish and after we ordered during our wait the line was out the door. It's really like that at El Tianguis! The food was delicious and we were so stoked at how much flavor was in everything we tried we were joking that "this is no good you wouldn't like it" to hog each dish to ourselves lol. Like everything we got was so good. They have a very good salsa too that they bring out to you just ask which one you want. They got mild, green medium, and a spicy red. Our server was so kind to bring us our salsas even with a huge lunch rush. We will definitely be back and can't wait to try other stuff on their menu read more
