This place really is worth the hype unfortunately lol the patio vibes with the bar- 6703 esthetics, it makes for the perfect go to spot for summer time tacos! And both were huge with filling portions of meat. The seating is outdoor but they do have some space heaters and sections with fire pits. Only let down is their salsa tastes pretty poor. Came on a weekday night and it was pretty busy - though the table turnovers were quite fast. There is street parking around the area. I got the shrimp taco, fish taco, chips and salsa and chicharron. The chicharron was not too crispy, a little soggy and not very flavorful. The chips were a lot better, as both salsas were flavorful. The red one was definitely a little spicier though both not very spicy. The tacos were packed! The shrimp was super fresh and I enjoyed the salsa on it as well. I really enjoy the food here. Everything I've tried - tacos, elote, and quesadillas has been consistently good. The only downside is that the steak in the tacos can be a bit chewy. The staff is friendly, but the service is extremely slow. Also, when the weather is nice, they do not allow online ordering. With limited seating and mostly outdoor tables, it doesn't make sense to disable online orders. There is only outdoor seating here, although there are umbrellas and canopies for shade. It can get crowded, especially as it is located in a neighborhood. My friend and I got the Chips and Salsa, Chorizo y Papas, Tinga de Pollo, and Carnitas Guerrero. The Chips and Salsa were the star of the show for me and filled me up quickly. I got the tacos (Chorizo y Papas and Tinga de Pollo) and added cojita cheese for extra. I thought that the tacos were okay. To be frank, I am not big on Mexican, so take my review with a grain of salt. I will say that boyfriend was a fan of the tacos when I brought the leftovers home. My friend actually got another dish but the server switched her order up so she ended up eating the Carnitas Guerrero (not her original order), and she thought she had better elsewhere. I do wish there were two cashiers as the one line was hard to wait for in the rain then running through it to get to covered seating made lunch interesting- however, the food and service was worth the excitement. El Tesoro is a cute neighborhood gem. Very casual, order at the counter, and eat outside. For chilly nights, they light the the fire pit and kept them active. We had the chips, salsa, and queso for apps. The red salsa was fantastic, the green was mid, queso excellent. I had 3 carne asada tacos, served room temp. We had ample covered places to sit under a tent with sides or near fire pits fully outside. Menus were posted at entrance, counter and several other places. Food options included appetizers, tacos, burritos, mulitas, tamales and desserts among other items. I went with the cover picture from this listing - tostones with guacamole and a shrimp taco. My companion had a customized mushroom - minus corn with added avocado. Everything was good, especially the seasoning in the guacamole which would have been a great addition to the mushroom burrito instead of sliced avocado. The blue corn wrap on the taco was a great addition to the marinated shrimp. Overall, I enjoyed my first visit and will return again. I've had this lovely place on my list for quite some time and I finally stopped in with a friend today to see what all the hype was about. I get it. You walk up, order at the register, take a number back to your seat, and they bring the food and drinks to your table. There are two registers which I'm sure is extremely helpful when it's busy. Don't be fooled by the exterior, there's plenty of seating. It's kind of like a Tardis, bigger on the inside. I'm sure parking can be tricky during busy hours. My friend had a steak taco, which she said was the "best steak taco I've ever had" and a really good Bloody Maria. We shared some fresh guac and chips that had just the right amount of salt. I am 55 years old, and the asada shirt steak "burro" was one of the best ones I have ever had. It's not a burrito for a reason. It is huge. El Tesoro has a dirt parking lot across the street and parking for maybe 3 cars in their direct lot, but there is free neighborhood street parking. Coming for a lunch on a weekday, it was pretty empty but that patio is super big! I ordered the asada taco, carnitas taco, chicharrones, and pineapple agua fresca. The taco and chicharrones came out within 5 mins as there was no wait. I did have to go back to the counter to ask about my agua fresca as I never received it after about 8 or so mins. Everything tasted super bland really. Chicharrones had chile powder but weren't salted at all. Both tacos lacked salt and tasted like nothing surprisingly. The onions and cilantro added something because there really wasn't any taste. Very disappointing. Finishing my tacos I was looking at my plate and saw hair on a bit of onion that was in my taco. Nail in the coffin. The only redeeming item was the agua fresca but the food was incredibly lackluster and with hair on it? Big miss from me and I don't see myself coming back for the food. Such a hidden gem! Had friends in town with kids so was looking for something family friendly with outdoor seating just in case the kids wanted to get loud. This is on the corner of a neighborhood in Edgewood. There's a small parking lot across the street and you can also park on the street, but pay attention to street signs closely. When I arrived, I saw a line and just got in line as I assumed this was what to do. Good thing I did, the line is to order your food. There is a separate line for the bar to order drinks. Once you order your food, you get a table number and go have a seat. They will bring the food to you. The food was phenomenal. I had a mulita and a taco and ordered plantains for the table. This was definitely some great Mexican food and loved the outdoor patio staying. Again the kids were able to freely be loud and it wasn't bothering anyone. The outdoor patio is on dirt, just something to make note of. The food was so good that I didn't want to stop eating even though I was full! Definitely want to go back to try other meat options. My first visit I had taken a walk in the neighborhood and wanted to try the horchata and I had it with espresso. It was good. The next weekend I ordered carryout and had a couple of tacos. When my cousin told me where we were going, you know your girl immediately had to look it up. The first picture I saw was tostones. I was sold. Something about this spot was new and refreshing. It was exactly what I was looking for on my trip to Atlanta. Fun and open outdoor seating surround the walk up area for ordering. To the building's side is where you pick up your order. Everything looked delicious but I grabbed the carnitas mulita. Before I talk about that l, I have to mention all the dips. Yes that's right, we ordered all the dips as per the flyer. The guacamole was chunky and had a kick. The queso was thick and more of a dip rather than melted queso. It had so much flavor. But back to the mulita. They crisp up the cheese on the outside and then dress it as a quesadilla. My only complaint was I needed more carnitas. They put a few big chunks of meat, but it definitely could have been filled out more. The agua fresca was a mango tropical flavor, also very refreshing. I wish I could have got the whole jug. The seating is outside aside from a few tables in tents, but they had fire pits going to make it super cozy. El Tesoro is an entire experience! I finally decided to visit this restaurant on a colder day in December. When I pulled up to the restaurant, I found one place to park. That was all that was available. Parking is very limited. (Note: There is a parking lot and street parking. Probably going on a Saturday during the World Cup made this limited. But I still pulled right in and it didn't alter my experience!) After parking, I walked up and noticed menus outside posted on the poles. After determining what I wanted, I step in line to wait to order. The line for ordering can be long but it moves at a reasonable speed. After ordering, I went to find a table. All tables are outside (there is no indoor seating). But the outdoor seating area was spacious with the TVs turned to the World Cup and fire pits on around the area to keep warm. Once my name was called for my food (and previously my hot chocolate), I went up to the pickup window to receive my food. But if you have claimed a table, make sure to leave something to mark it. I did, so luckily no one took my table! I grabbed my food and went back to my table. And everything was everything! I was really impressed with the tacos. The tortillas were made to perfection. And I had never had a sweet potato taco before but it was delicious. And my other was pollo (chicken) which was just as delicious. The rice was flavorful. And the mezcal hot chocolate was just what I needed for a cold day! El Tesoro reminded me of visiting my friends in La Paz, Mexico (except on a slightly bigger scale). So I was very much pleased!
