Okay....holy food-gasm BATMAN!!! I left dinner on cloud nine after eating as this restaurant. I had a fantastic life changing experience. I had seen pictures and reviews about the pineapple fajita on yelp and I was fascinated. So I thought to myself....SELF... that many people couldn't be wrong. It is a small restaurant right in the heart of Payson seating around 40 patrons. I think that actually works in the favor because It makes you feel like you are eating at someone's home. The owners are very welcoming. As we came in to be seated a very young man sat us and cleaned off the table.Our waiter was Aaron. He was very friendly and smiled the whole time. Good service goes a long way. I have this condition where I have to try the guacamole at every restaurant that carries it on the menu. Aaron said he would let me try some first. Why yes sir I think I will. Now, I know I am a wimp when it comes to spice but this was a very lovely creamy guacamole. I told him I loved it and he then brought a full order to the table. He also brought out complimentary chips and salsa to the table. They serve Pepsi products there as well. Double plus! I then said I wanted to try the Pineapple fajita. He said it comes with chicken, steak or shrimp or a combination of the three. I said I would have it with steak and shrimp. When it came out I was speechless (which doesn't happen very often). This dish is big enough to eat with a couple friends or take home and eat over days by yourself. I was so excited. I wasn't disappointed. It is served in a halved pineapple hallowed out and filled will all the yummy fajita regulars. There was enough cheese, mushrooms, peppers, steak and grilled pineapple to keep me happy. I at one tortilla filled and it didn't even look like a made a dent. I had to take it home pineapple and all. I will be back to try other dishes on the menu. We were in Payson heading to a flick and decided to grab something to eat on the way. My wife had selected this place based upon the other yelp reviews... so we thought we give it a go. Overall, we found the food on both our plates were a sloppy, disorganized, soupy mess covered with cheese. I get it... they were going for Mexican American comfort food, but they missed the mark! The Chile Verde Burrito was way too salty and we found it had more meat on top then It did inside. I found one lonely chunk of meat inside and a few on the outside. I'm not sure if that was meant to suggest that it was overflowing with meat or it was a mistake. Both of us could only eat half of our meals. read more

Got pineapple fajitas, so much food! Me and my husband ordered it to share and we didn't even eat half. Comes with 3 tortillas, rice beans and guacamole and cheese. Was $15.95 and worth every penny. I felt like it had too many green peppers so we picked them all out. We got it with steak and chicken, I think next time I won't get the chicken too because it wasn't as good as the steak. My wife and I decided to try El Tapatio today for lunch. It was Saturday during the Noon hour and was busy, but not packed. We had heard great things about their Fajitas and thought they sounded good. I really enjoyed the chips and salsa, the guacamole was a little above average. The taste was good, but it was more on the runny side. My wife felt the salsa had too much cilantro, but I loved it... We decided to share the fajitas, we are not big eaters. When it came to the table, it was served in a grilled pineapple boat. We ordered the combo, steak, chicken and shrimp, it comes with onions, peppers and chunks of fresh grilled pineapple. it looked mouth watering stunning. We ate about 3 shells worth of fajitas and was full, there was till at least enough to make 4-5 more. We got a to go box and will enjoy again for supper tomorrow. I can say that I have favorite Mex Food and this place just made top 5. It is not perfect, the service was not perfect, the decor is not the most authentic, no category would get more than an 8, but the entire experience got a 9. They have become my go to Mexican Restaurant when we are sticking around our part of the State. It is worth exiting off I-15 to find a great meal! read more

Holy buckets of flavor...this place is awesome. We had the ceviche...and it was quite good. But the entrée that rocked our world was the fajitas inside of a hollowed out pineapple. Perfectly cooked steak with onions, mushrooms, peppers, pineapple & cheese. Did I mention cheese? I thought I had died and gone to Mexican Heaven. If it weren't that the yummy sounds I was making kept getting in the way of shoveling more in, it would have been the perfect meal. It was as if we were in a little place in Oaxaca or Isla Mujeres. We had heard about the pineapple fajitas and the shrimp cocktail but hadn't been in to try it yet. One Friday night we walked in and the energy in there is good- it was busy but we had a table in less than 5 minutes. The service was friendly and quick and the food was totally worth the little drive into downtown Payson Main Street (which couldn't be cuter). The shrimp cocktail was amazing and the pineapple chicken fajitas were to die for! It's hard to imagine eating anything else but we will go back for sure and try other things. read more

As far as I'm concerned this is the definitive place for Mexican food in the county. Server was fast, courteous and made sure we were taken care of. Food gets 6 stars out of 5. My wife and I both had the meat pineapple. For the uninitiated it's a half of a pineapple filled to the brim with meat, veggies and roasted pineapple. Had to ask multiple times when our food would be ready. The food for our party of two did not come out at the same time. The restaurant has no real appeal. I felt like I was in a big noisy closet. The service was terrible! We had to ask for drinks 5 times. Everyone around us received there stuff before we got our waters. The food was awful and expensive! The enchilada sauce tasted like tomato sauce. It was bland and really unappetizing. We left our plates full! We still paid although I really want to get up and walk out. First I had gone there and ordered the chilli Verde and was so unimpressed, but... Gave it another chance being it's down the road from me. This time ordered the chilli rellenos and tamale dinner, crazy good food. The rellenos was a dinner in itself layered with cheese and to with a light sauce tomato based with peppers and onions. El Tapatio once was my first choice for Mexican food, not any more. A little over a year ago I wrote a review raving how great this place was and I have been there several times since. They must have changed owners or management because today's experience was terrible. Awful service, waited to be seated for quite awhile. After we were seated 10 min passed then the waitress asked if we were ready to order.... we were never handed menus, or drinks. We got some menus but took a long time for drinks. I noticed other people just got up and helped them selves with the drinks, I did the same for our 2 thirsty kids, I also had to look around for a booster seat to sit our toddler in. Without a doubt, the blandest Mexican food I've ever eaten. The salsa was mild to the most boring degree, they could use that concoction to cool down nuclear reactors. The food was so incredibly lacking in flavor, I attempted to put on salt and pepper (which is something I've never even considered attempting with Mexican food because it's crazy) just to add some hint of decency into my dish. I think these reviewers that rated this place highly have either never ventured outside of Spanish Fork for food, or find that garlic is too spicy a food to be added to a dish. And I'm not complaining just because the food wasn't spicy, it had virtually no flavor at all. Like wow, idk how they took an onion and zapped the taste out of it, but this place accomplished this task across all of their dishes with flying colors. Have been in search of an authentic Mexican food restaurant since moving to Utah in the mid 80s. This is the place! We called ahead to make reservations at work greeted warmly by one of the owners sons. After explaining this was our first visit and asking for recommendations, we were introduced to the pineapple fajita. This is a house special created by the owners. A half pineapple is filled with a mixture of peppers, onions, pineapple, and your choice of beef, chicken, or shrimp then topped with cheese and somehow baked or boiled then served with a side of your choice of either corn or flour tortillas. Also Served with a side of rice, beans, guacamole and sour cream it is absolutely exquisite! The restaurant is on the smaller side but clean and inviting. We were glad we called ahead because shortly after arriving, the restaurant was packed with several waiting outside. We will definitely be back read more

We had seen pictures on Facebook that looked amazing so we gave it a try. The food was satisfactory but nothing phenomenal. I figure you can tell if a place is good by the basics. So we ordered basic Mexican food, chimichanga, burrito,and a taco. Very skimpy on the meat in the burrito and overly drenched with enchilada sauce. I could only taste sauce! There was a mixup in the order and I was given an cheese enchilada instead of a burrito. It was remedied but the waitress had to go back to the cook a couple times before it was fixed, one of the times telling me it was a mini burrito! I know what the difference is between a enchilada and a burrito! All in all, the establishment was very clean and inviting. My food was very good. I ordered the carne asada plate that came with a big portion of carne asada, rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream, and fresh, warm tortillas.
