This place was an awesome find. It's a cool, hip, modern atmosphere inside -- books to browse, music playing, and the vibe is just buzzing. It wasn't obvious at first that they had lunch -- you could go up to a counter and order various drinks/smoothies, but there was no obvious method for obtaining an actual meal. El taller is a great place to eat anytime of the week either for lunch or dinner. During lunch time, I recommend the chicken torta and for dinner the steak & papa. Some of the food can be pricy but the quality is worth it. My only complaint is that the wait staff takes forever when attending customers. This has been my only negative so far. read more

Came to this place to see what the hype was about. The atmosphere was very chill, and had great music. On the other hand, the waitress took a while to ask us for our order, which didn't play in our favor since we were on lunch. I order mozzarella sticks, and 20 minutes later was told that they were out of them. The blender that is used in the restaurant is so loud, I could not hear myself think, and struggled to hear my coworkers conversations. The food took too long to get to us (for those that got a chance to order food), and when the food arrived, they messed up the order by ordering and extra dish. The presentation of the food was nice . My coworkers did mention that the food was good, since I didn't get to try any. Moral of the review, if you are on a time crunch, this is not the place to eat. read more

This is a hidden gem that my husband and I just discovered in the heart of Lawrence. The food is great, the people are genuinely friendly and the café latté is divine! They host small events and even have a mic night. I frequent this cafe for coffee and lunch since I work nearby. There is a cool vibe here, as the space is both a cafe and bookstore. I would recommend the honey cinnamon latte. They have giant cookies and brownies. The chocolate chip is so good! For food, I've tried the pork torta, tostones, chicken soup, and sweet potato fries. El Taller is a wonderful coffee place with yummy food. They have tortas-- which is like a healthier version of a burger. I have been getting their Chilaquiles... which is basically tortilla chips cooked in chicken broth/tomato and smothered in cheese and sour cream...it kind of reminds me of a thinner version of lasagna-- and it's delicious! The other thing about this coffee place is that they are a bookstore with drinks. They also host slam poetry shows, open mic, creative writing workshops for kids. The restaurant is not to just feed the stomach....but also the hungry minds and souls. Loved this little gem, which is along a street (Canal) and a community (Lawrence) that is in the midst of an impressive turnaround. The sweet potato fries were to die for. Best tostones I've ever had - by a long shot. I had a torta with carnitas, egg, avocado, onions, hot peppers, and chipotle mayo that rocked my world. The coffee was perfect. I tried the Dominican flavored hot chocolate which had a nice, rich flavor. My boyfriend got the regular hot chocolate which was equally as satisfying. A little bit inconvenient to drive over the Canal St. bridge to get here and find parking during weekday lunch hours but I would totally come here on the weekend. I liked the atmosphere, music selection, and decor. The workers here are very friendly and the food was excellent. They didn't even bat a lash when I had to send back my food. Definitely try the banana coconut macchiato. I went here with all my coworkers for the first time and we were all very pleased.
