I've seen this place for years and always thought about trying them. I went because a friend suggested I try it. I ordered chips and cheese dip, birria tacos and a hibiscus drink. I paid roughly $25. After I sat down I was told they didn't have cheese dip and offered me either salsa or bean dip, which was not the same price but I agreed anyways. I found this spot on Yelp. I called in my order and the lady who helped me was very friendly and helpful. When I arrived, my order was ready and she asked if I wanted salsa. She told me that one was really spicy and she gave me one that wasn't very spicy. I really appreciated her hospitality. The spicy salsa was my favorite. The tacos were cheesy and fresh. Yes! To the food and the service. This is now my "go to"! I had a brisket taco and a pastor taco, and they were both very good.

Just because Taqueria El Taco Naco is authentic does not automatically mean that it's the best Mexican food in the 'hood. Looks like prices have really gone up! I ordered 1 taco pastor & 1 taco asada (~$2.20 each), a chicharron mini taco (~$2.50), a small champurrado (~$3.30), and sampled the chicken torta (~$7.50). Somehow, the total bill was about $21 without tax, so I guess the cashier must have pushed the wrong button and upcharged me to a large champurrado at ~$6.60! Small or large, the champurrado was a rip off! Each taco had a suboptimal amount of meat topped with cilantro & onion. The carne asada was bland and chopped too finely, the chicharron was nicely stewed in tomatillo sauce but could have had more zing, and the pastor was marinated to about the right amount of tanginess. As condiments, they brought out lime wedges and 1 small pack each of red, tomatillo, and jalapeno (or avocado?) salsa. The red and tomatillo sauces were medium spicy and tasted almost the same, and the jalapeno salsa was too runny and not spicy enough. I would have liked to have piled more cilantro & onion and pico de gallo into the tacos to add bulk, fiber, and flavor, but for now, the days of self-serve salsa bars are over! As for the chicken torta, it was dry. Too bad the bolillo roll was the best part. Inside, there was an inadequate layer of chopped chicken crumbles topped with shredded lettuce, tomato chunks, a few avocado slices that were too thin, and pickled jalapenos, but no mayo or secret sauce to make it taste more Mexican. Instead of dried out chicken particles, a nice juicy hunk or slices of grilled chicken would have been more satisfying, but I guess that's less profitable. The champurrado was thick, hot, creamy, and cinnamon-chocolaty. I actually enjoyed it, but it was not worth ~$6.60! Despite spending and ordering so much, my hunger and taste for Mexican food were not totally satisfied. The cashier, who was also the server, was nice though, even if she did mess up my champurrado order. Well, I'm glad I found another authentic taqueria, and maybe I'll return some day after I try others. read more

Legitimately zero stars. We just left before we even got tacos. Completely tasteless sope and papusas. No red sauce for the pupusas which is part of the dish. The salsa was from a can. My boyfriend is from Mexico City and made us leave. I feel embarrassed for leaving but it was so bad we didn't even ask for our money back, we just ran out. Been here a few times for soft tacos. They have two different sizes to choose from, but I always stick with the smaller one. A close authentic Mexican place to home. Their food and meat here is delicious. I have noticed the tortilla/taco shell sometimes tend to be on the dry side. It isn't consistent is what I'm saying. Some days, it's perfect. Taco naco is one of Tucker's Mexican shindigs. It has a mom and pop feel to it. I've been here several times but they've expanded it in the past year. Very spacious and clean. Because it's family owned, the waitress was very personable and generous. During my last visit I had 2 chicken sopes which consists of a fried tortilla topped with chicken, sour cream, cheese, avocado slices, and lettuce. It was filling and satisfying. It's pretty messy to eat so don't take your first date here. Hehe. My boyfriend had 3 different tacos. Chicken, tongue, and spicy beef, he enjoyed them all. The marinades were on point and very tasty. I also had a horchata but it wasn't the best I ever had. Our entire meal was only $13.00! What a steal! This place doesn't look like much from the outside. Don't let that scare you off. I would say parking here is a lil hard especially when bigger longer cars are parked. Lucky for us it wasn't that busy. Once it did it was harder to get out. Now the service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive. The food tasted amazing. I go back years with the place, long before they expanded next door. I remember when they were just one table and a countertop. Tacos with fresh ingredients, large burritos, good tortas, just good food selections all around. By far the best Mexican in Tucker/ Stone Mountain/ Clarkston. stopped by for lunch since I wanted a torta and like to support local business. The restaurant is small and cozy, definitely hole in the wall and there is one server. It took a bit for her to make her way over to take my order, she was sweet but very shy. I ordered the pastor torta and the asada gordita. The torta came out first. The bread was crunchy, but the sandwich as a whole a bit dry, flavorless and underwhelming. I accidentally bit into the pepper that was embedded inside and usually would have kicked myself, but it actually added much needed flavor! The gordita finally made its way out and although stuffed to the brim, it too was a disappointment. The asada was extremely tough and chewy. The gordita was not crunchy and actually fell apart in my hands making it hard to eat. The only thing that saved this dish was the avocado sauce it was served with. This is a small family run business. They serve very authentic mexican food. I have been here a lot and really enjoy it. In general, they could use an influx of cash to do some upgrading/remodeling. And, you are likely to be served by a younger family member who isn't a 'professional' with years of experience waiting tables. Those would be the only downsides. What you get is very fresh food that is very authentic. Mexican food styles are all over the place and most are excellent and unique. So, I don't get into the "this is the best mexican ever" routine. El Taco Naco is definitely among the best authentic mexican food I've had. They have an extensive menu but I usually get three or four tacos with sides. I encourage you to support small, locally owned, family operated business like this. Nice people and good food. read more
