El Tacazo

I generally come here when I am working in South Phoenix in the mid day. It's a decent place for meetings. The owners are often on site. The prices are great. The food is fast and fresh and the ladies behind the counter are very nice and fun to converse with. They have me a flan for my birthday! Yo puedo practicar hablando español! Jajajajaja

"Try my taco" - that's what the sign says.

This Mexican restaurant offers good eatin' on the cheap. Located in a busy strip mall (as a detached building) in a busy stretch of South Central Avenue near Broadway, it was recommended by a Mexican friend who described it as being "closest to Mexican home cooking as it can get, for a restaurant." I enjoyed eating in this place because it is spacious for its size, a large illustrated menu hovers over the counter, the prices are low, the food is savory - the vinegar, cilantro, and other seasonings stand out without being overpowering - and they have great flan! Sure to be a preferred dining stop during my trips to the areas south of downtown.

Heard so much about this place and finally ate here for my first time. It's very clean and surprisingly well taken care of. Great authentic food and the steak is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend for anyone eating here their first time. Relaxing dining hall with soothing music and good service.

Yes!!!! Flauta plate. My fav.

Carne Asada Tacos!! Very good!!

The restaurant is clean and presentable. The cashier's are always nice, proficient and professional. The carne asada tacos are sooooo good. Perfectly flavored carne asada with onions and cilantro. The corn tortillas are double-rolled to hold the mounds of meat. The lemon to squeeze on the tacos is perfect. Love coming here and will continue to visit.

Cannot wait to dig into these chicken flautas!

This place is definitely a hidden gem! We came in for cocktails which is delicious, but left raving…read moreabout the food! The rotating menu changes weekly or so, and everything we had was amazing! The risotto was full of flavor and the kale salad was probably the best salad I've had! The bar is small but a welcoming vibe, and the staff was really friendly and fun to talk with!

What an amazing evening, beautifully curated with so many thoughtful details. Only downside is that…read morefor some reason Apple maps was not accurate to finding the location and parking was a challenge as it is right on Roosevelt Row. However as soon as I found it and immediately after entering Pretty Penny I was transformed to the cutest little restaurant. I was greeted immediately and had made a reservation so even though my friend hadn't arrived yet, they sat me down. They instantly offered water and menus (food and cocktail). I noticed that the menu seemed very small and the dishes were shareable -- I don't eat meat so I was hoping my friend wouldn't mind sticking with fish and seafood (which she didn't). As soon as I got to my table there was the cutest sign that said welcome to Sarah Sherman and guest -- it was such an adorable and personal touch, I loved that! As soon as my friend got there we immediately both ordered the cold brew old fashioned -- we thought about the espresso martini but this just sounded too good to pass up -- and we were not disappointed! This drink was so tasty and strong. We immediately ordered the bread (sourdough boule) to soak up some of the alcohol as well as some oysters and the salsa. The oysters were so well spiced and were absolutely delicious. But the bread, the bread, the bread -- the server mentioned that it took almost 9 months to develop the bread recipe and it served. It was the best bread and butter that I think I have ever had! The salsa was good but probably was my least favorite of everything and it was still super yummy. We then moved on to the octopus tostadas. Sometimes octopus is not my fav -- it can be too chewy but this was so amazing and incredibly flavorful. It was starting to be my favorite dish until we ordered the Hamachi -- OMG!! Talk about a mouth orgasm-- both my friend and I were yummming it up -- but seriously this bite was so complex with different flavors coming up with every chew -- it has coriander candied peanuts, fermented pineapple, avocado, pickled fresno, toasted coconut and aji amarillo yogurt -- The server mentioned that this was the chef's least favorite dish which I totally do not understand because this was off the charts in my book. We also tried the earl gray whiskey sour, which was light and delicious, and ended with the shrimp toast and the espresso martini. By the way the toast on the shrimp toast was like a little fried dough triangle -- sooooo gooood! The martini was good but the cold brew old fashioned really stole the spotlight for me. Other details I loved that just elevated the experience: Purse hook (very important to me), the little trays for your utensils, metal coasters, incredibly attentive servers, fantastic music, great ambiance and the cutest was the penny they put on top of your check. So cute -- was not expecting such an enjoyable all around experience!! Will be back 1000%!!!

My experience with Mexican food has admittedly been rather limited, largely revolving around the…read morefamiliar rotation of tacos, burritos, and the familiar assortment of rice and beans. While I've had some phenomenal street tacos in LA and Mexico, I've been wanting to explore more of its diversity, particularly the seafood traditions! We came with a healthy appetite and ordered the Mega Molcajete, El Pulpazo, and Camarones Locos. The complimentary ceviche tostadas were a promising start! Fresh, vibrant, they immediately set my expectations high for quality and freshness of the seafood to follow. The Mega Molcajete was a showstopper. The dish arrived as an extravagant spread of grilled meats, shrimp, octopus, lobster tail, fried fish, and more. Visually spectacular, and with flavors that lived up to its presentation! El Pulpazo deserves its own praise. Octopus is notoriously unforgiving. There's a fine line between beautifully tender and unpleasantly chewy. I've had my share of disappointing renditions to know that an impressive char means very little if the texture isn't right. Fortunately, this was executed well! Fantastically seasoned, with a lovely charred exterior, and cooked to the right doneness! The Camarones Locos were another highlight! We loved the flavors of the sauce! Since we had children with us, our waitress graciously accommodated our request to serve the sauce separately to control the spice level! We also had the Mango Diablo, which provided some much-needed tropical refreshment from both the Arizona heat and the fiery kick of the dishes themselves! A few minor drawbacks worth mentioning. The parking can be tricky, as the lot is rather small (we were fortunate to snag the single remaining spot in the lot). This was also not an inexpensive outing. Our bill (for the aforementioned orders above) came in just under $300 (tax and tip included). That said, I felt the experience justified the splurge!

My friend ordered a burrito and I wanted some lite, I picked the mini seafood tower, with all sauces and avocado on the side. Server brought out complementary seafood tostadas. Food quality, service, ambience, all top-notch, highly recommend!

What a great experience! We had visited Mimi Forno shortly after they opened in 2018. Life got in…read morethe way and we didn't return until April of 2026. Even without reservations we were seated immediately. Water and menus were on the table in the blink of an eye. Our server, Josephina, was quick to take both drink and appetizer orders. I ordered some bread, not immediately realizing the difference, and should have ordered the focaccia. The martini that my wife ordered was, in her words, perfect. The Caesar Salad was the best I've had in quite a while. Just incredibly fresh greens, great dressing, grated cheese, and tasty croutons. I could have made a meal just from that. My wife ordered the Spinach & Ricotta Ravioli and I had the Lasagna Bolognese. Neither is an unusually elegant dish but both were prepared perfectly. The house Chianti was so enjoyable that we ordered a bottle and enjoyed it throughout the meal. To finish off the experience we had an order of cannolis and they were delicious. Thanks to Josephina for such a great evening and we will be back to try the "Bottle & Bruschetta" they feature on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Finally got a chance to try Mimi Forno Italiano! A bit of a hidden gem in Laveen as I've never…read morereally been in the area before. First, the food was delicious! I felt like the texture of the gnocchi was amazing and I enjoyed the thickness of it. The pesto sauce was also great and my favorite parts had the bits of nuts in it. The shrimp arrabiata was good too with nonfishy seafood and not too spicy. The bread was perfect for dipping in the sauce but I wish we got a few more. There is a happy hour Monday through Friday from 3-5pm but there isn't much advertisement about it online or in-store. The happy hour menu is pretty small but includes the Shrimp Arrabiata (1/2lb or full lb), Cheese Pizza, Margherita Pizza, $2 off cocktails, and a few more items I forgot to take a picture of!! Our server was a friendly man with dark hair and an accent. He was super nice but we noticed that it would take us a long time to get something we needed, like the check. In his defense, we were chit chatting for a while and probably didn't look like we needed help or service. No hate, he was very kind with good intentions. The restaurant itself was cute and a little bit smaller, making it harder to walkin if it was a busier night. Overall great food and nice staff. If you're looking for authentic Italian, come here!
