Walking around my staying neighborhood, I came across this restaurant and decided to give it a try. The place is small but plenty of tables. Was greeted and seated right away. The ambience was good with Spanish music playing on the background. I ordered a typical Colombian dish Sobre barriga. I must say that it was good. The texture was almost perfect. The only down side was the Yuca (Cassava). It was too hard and must be soft. The other is that there were no beans to accompany the dish. While this of course is not required as we are not in South America I would recommend it as a side dish. The rice, salad, avocado and plantain were just perfect with the food. Other than that it was a good meal....if you ever in the area give them a try. read more

We stopped here for lunch after our first choice, an unnamed Chinese place down the street, ignored us and the menu was not impressive. It turned out to a great choice for us. After not having anything Latin/Mexican for about 6 weeks, this place was perfect for us. They have a set menu for 10 Euro and I got the guacamole with chips as a starter and chicken chipotle as the main course. The guac was very mediocre but had a nice kick from the red sauce on top. The chips left something to be desired. The chicken was killer. Without a doubt, it was the BEST chicken I ever had in my life. It came as a quarter with leg and thigh. It was just unbelievably tender and flavorful. It not only was prepared perfectly, but obviously they raise chickens differently in France than the US. The rice was very flavorful as well, I ate every kernel. The salad was similar to cole slaw but without mayo and I liked it too. It turned out to be an excellent lunch, one of the best I have had in Paris. If you like Latin American or Mexican food, you need to give this place a try. it is located about 10 minute walk from Notre Dame. read more

We stopped in on a Wednesday around 6:30 and the place (small) was already packed. Really good food. Chipotle chicken is delectable. Veggie burrito is even better. So much flavor and spices. Oh, and rice really stands out here. Cooked to perfection. The guacamole/salsa with sour cream starter is fantastic. The only knock on this place is when we finished our meal and tried to pay the tab with a credit card, we were told "Sorry, cash only." Now our French isn't the best but nowhere on the menu or in the establishment, did we notice "cash only" signage. Of course, we didn't have enough cash so I had to run to the ATM while my wife stayed as collateral. Two young ladies at the table next to us had the same issue. So, as long as you bring your euros, you will have a very enjoyable time at this place. read more

Check out the chandelier made of cerveza bottles--my kinda restaurant! Tightly-packed tables filled up quickly when we came here for our 12 noon lunch. Menus are not available in English & our waitress did not understand a word of it so we were left to our detective skills to decode what would be our meal. We ordered: - chips & guacamole: corn chips out of a bag but very fresh & crisp. Guac did not have chunks of avocado (more like a purée) but tasted salty & limey--very good! - bf originally ordered a pork tamale but they were out so hastily picking something else, he was brought pork ribs & potatoes, which was flavored strongly of thyme. - I had a quesadilla with guac. So much cheese (bad for me, good for you.) Topped with a bit of salsa (again, puree, not chunks), sour cream & a cucumber/tomato/onion salad that reminded me of something Mediterranean. Yummy! When you want a hearty latin dish, come here ! I think it's colombian... We had the guacamole which was a reasonable size for 2 people to share plus the chili con carne and a chicken cheese dish which was delicious. I had a bit of the chili and to be honest it was bland. I went there with a friend randomly. The menu was simple and offers varieties of South American food. We wanted to try some Cuban stuff but that was no longer available, unfortunately. Generally speaking the service wasn't perfect: it was hard to get the waitress attention and there was a mistake in our order (full bottle of wine instead of half of it). It was very odd also to get bottled of wines already opened. Regarding the food, that was good. I am not a connaisseur of South American cuisine but generally speaking it wasn't bad but not mind blowing either. Note that the food was served at a too-quick-to-be-normal speed which makes me wonder how much they prepare at the order. read more

Great food...This was a nice score in Paris. I need my Latin food fix whereever I travel and this was perfect for the family. It was festive, packed with people, large portions, and food the had a Spanish flavor. Only issue is their credit card machine will not work with American credit cards without a chip. Bummer!, so one will have to pay in cash. read more

I'll have to admit, these people are extremely tolerant. We arrived, full of mirth and joy and drink for a 20-person reservation. And we ain't the quiet types. They took our order from a copious menu written in small type on an A4 menu, and broughts the food in a timely manner, putting up with our screaming and mediterranean loudness. The food there was pretty good. It damn near took my face off, but I like spicy food anyway - which I was able to wash down with large quantities of treacherous margarita. While not the best mexican I may have ever had, the place has that intimate cantina feel - with their own in-house mariachi. They've got a fair amount of seating, for a parisian restaurant (and this, despite the cluttered decoration) and it's delightfully kept. However, come peak activity, you best not be equipped with that mexican food-gut - you may end up having to dodge your way to the exit or toilets. Good place to turn to if you're in a pinch. read more

My friend recommended that I try this restaurant. The atmosphere of this tiny Mexican place is quite cheerful, perfect for outings with friends or family. The waiters are polite and helpful. Now, for the food: the quesadillas with queso and guacamole were really good. I ordered chili con carne which was an average "good" as it could have been more spicy. I tried the "pollo chipotle" from my mother and I loved it. If you go there, don't forget to order the mango juice, which was probably one of the best thing they have there. read more

I came here around lunch time with a couple of other Americans. There seemed to be only one person working (seating, taking orders, and preparing food). It took a while to place our orders and to get our food. A lot of our food was microwaved- we could see the microwave from our table- and it tasted like it. The food was just okay. The first time I went to El Sol y La Luna was in 2004, during my first 10-day voyage to Paris. The last night of the trip, my friend and I were really craving some Mexican food (in Paris, of all places...just goes to show you can never underestimate Mexican cravings!) and just happened to serendipitously stumble upon this place. It's very close to Notre Dame on the rue St. Jacques and it's got excellent food, large portions, and delicious margaritas!!! I've gone back countless times with both French and American friends. The service is great, despite that French is usually their second language and English a distant third. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for Mexican in Paris! read more

Honestamente, the best latinoamerican cuisine in Paris. It's sad to say but white people reviewing latinoamerican places often don't know what the hell they're reviewing. I myself am Venezuelan and came here several times with my other Venezuelan friends, my Mexican friends, and my Colombian friends and we agreed that the food was very good. Initially I was sooo excited to have finally found a Mexican place and see how they do Mexican food in Paris. My excitement quickly went downhill after we stopped by the first time and were told to come back at noon (it was 11:30am); okay, makes sense, not a big deal. We go walk around and come back at 11:53 and AGAIN were told to come back at noon.... Ummmm since when are Mexicans anal about time?? Really, we can't sit down and the staff can't bring us some chips and salsa, water??? It was SEVEN minutes before noon! We ended up going back to the 7th and had an amazing meal with excellent service... For everyone saying this is a Colombian restaurant, the place obviously states that it does South American cuisine, so while there may be some Colombian aspects, this run down, mediocre at best shoddy burrito spot shouldn't be associated solely with Colombia. The staff was not rude, but indifferent and not attentive. The bathroom was disgusting, the sink broken, the upholstery on the seats torn and uncomfortable, and the food mostly bland. Avoid if you can, but if you must settle for somewhere as we did, don't get the burrito. And no, I'm not white so the reviews saying only white people dislike this place are (obviously) wrong. read more

Ordered tacos 2 beef fajita and 2 chicharron was shocked when the cashier said 14.57 I was like umm for 4 tacos. The cashier said well we only use premium beef. Ok so I asked what cut do you use for the fajita? premium and then said we dont add all the lettuce and tomato that they normally use. LOL Really. On the menue it does not state they use premium anything hmmm. got food to go and just smiled the tacos were so cute like little breakfast tacos with broken tortilla so you know that the tortilla was old. white people seriously need to learn how to detect geography through the flags hung in this restaurant, and signs all around indicating it's a Colombian restaurant, NOT Mexican! anyhow, I stumbled into this small cafe in the Latin district by accident while grazing past it on a bus en route to another place to eat. after walking out not impressed with the menu at Kayser, I walked back here to find that despite the initial appearance of a small joint, it was packed inside and with a lively atmosphere. the owners were ahem, shall I say again? very friend Colombian people. I was happy to have a use for Spanish for once in this country that speaks predominantly French, and right away came my appetizer, then my drink, and meal accordingly. I like that in France there's a fixed price of a combo with entree + plat + dessert. With my fresh guava juice, my check came out to be under 20€. the whole meal itself was 12€, but make sure to get there before 3, as this is a happy hour offer. I've been in Paris for a few weeks now and got my first real craving for mexican food so my friend and I decided to check this place out. The margaritas were actually pretty good, but that's pretty much it. The salsa that came with the chips had no spice at all, or even anything resembling mexican flavor. It tasted more like a raw tomato sauce for pasta than salsa. That was the first warning sign that this may not be the south of the border experience that I was hoping for. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and figured that maybe they couldn't get chilies or something. Then I saw stuff start to get microwaved and I knew this would not end well. I just got a simple plate with rice, guac, chips and salsa. Hard to mess up, right? Wrong. There was nothing resembling mexican flavor anywhere on the food. The pico de gallo was actually just chopped up cucumbers and tomatoes. The rice had no seasoning, just white. The guacamole was okay, but it definitely didn't save the dish. My friend fared worse. He ordered some sort of burrito plate that, by all accounts left a lot to be desired. According to him, the meat lacked any flavor and was very gristly. There was a tamale that came on the side that was very dry, though slightly more flavorful. when we went to pay, the waitress said she couldn't split our bill, which is pretty unusual in my experience in Paris. So we had to pay together and all i had was a 50 which should have been fine on a 30+ euro bill. She acted like it was a big deal and had to run down the street to get change. When I say change I mean that very literally. she gave me a 10 and the rest in change smaller than a euro, probably 7 euros worth of 50, 20 and 10 cent pieces. Anyway, this place was pretty bad I really wouldn't recommend it to someone that has ever eaten anything close to real mexican food. read more

The waitresses were hostile and kept opening the door when 4 clients at 4 different tables kept closing it because it was raining and there was a lot of wind - I was one of them and we even got shout at.
