This is my son's and his wife's favorite Mexican Restaurant near their home and I understand why. The food was excellent. I called in the order for 4 people and went and picked it up. It was just about ready when I got there and it stayed hot until I brought it home. I had the Quesadillas a Mano con Asada and it was exceptional. The serving was large and filled with cheese, steak, lettuce, queso fresco, and sour cream. Everyone else had different types of Street Tacos. There was a couple of chicken street tacos and a street taco al pastor. Everything was outstanding. This Mexican spot is it. We walked in on a whim and were instantly glad. Authentic Mexican food with solid pescatarian options. I got the shrimp (camarón) quesadillas with fries; the portion was perfect and the homemade sauce at the self-serve bar elevated everything. My fiancé had two shrimp tacos and a fish taco but the shrimp stole the show, and the fish was just okay. We came around noon and appreciated the midday cleaning, which kept the place feeling fresh. Couldn't wait to get home to write about this place! We come here a lot for the tostadas! I could eat 12 but I shouldn't. These are the best tostadas I have had anywhere near here. My wife and I always get the chorizo. Just amazing, slightly spicy but the salsa bar helps me kick it up a notch. Cilantro on mine. Sheer authentic perfection! I also tried the chicharron tostada. You don't find these in many places but if you have never had what is basically boiled pork skin, you need to try these. There are plenty of meat options to choose from. We went back for the fish and shrimp taco combo. 1 of each, and incredibly fresh with a crisp cabbage and carrot slaw. There are so many other things here to try and I am convinced that everything has got to be incredible! Come HUNGRY! Back again for the tacos pescado. They are in flour tortillas with a crisp tangy slaw that pairs nicely with the fried fish. A squeeze of lime adds a bit more acidity which I like but would be fine without as well. Nice taco. Two are definitely a meal for me! It's busy here. Everyone seems to love the corn! I thought the food and the selections were good. But the prices were a little high for what you get. There was also a little confusion on the ordering. I tried to order a quesadilla and was asked if I wanted flour or corn tortilla. I decided corn tortilla thinking you could just pick one or the other, but was surprised when I looked at the receipt and paid an extra $4. Turns out it was a completely different quesadilla than I was expecting. To be fair, the menu does have two different quesadilla sections, but I had my eyes fixated on the one I wanted to order and wish instead of asking flour or corn tortilla he had just taken my order for quesadilla, not "a mano". As for the tacos, we ordered a variety of street tacos...al pastor, carnitas, asada, and camaron. While they all tasted great, they were all a little small as well, especially for the prices of about $4 each. The quesadilla was also good, but at a price of $14. There was also an awkward exchange when getting our food order. They handed us a table number. However, when they brought the food out and asked if it was our order, I said yes it was, but the lady looked skeptical that it was ours and wouldn't hand it to us initially. In fact, she took the food back to the kitchen to double check if it was ours. I'm not sure why she didn't believe me. I was ready to show her the receipt when she came back, but another person confirmed it was ours. I'm not sure if they make that mistake often, but they need to figure out their system. They gave us free street corn that they were grilling outside and I was so happy! It was so good. They have a sauce counter where you can get your own salsas, hot sauce, pickled jalapeños and limes. I ordered the veggie burrito. To be honest, it needed some help, it was very bland. Thankfully, the salsa bar is great and has a wide selection so I got different salsas to inprove the flavor of the burrito. Some cheese or sour cream would have helped it out. I was very excited to try their tres-leches cake, but they were asking almost $9 per slice which I thought was VERY overpriced. My burrito plus some unexpected hot (but generic) fries was only $11 and some change. Overall I thought the food was good and I'd like to try their homemade tortillas on some of their other dishes. It's good not great is probably the perfect way to describe it. There is nothing wrong with good. It is good food and good enough to come back here. It just isn't special or great in any aspects. Two visits here and I've had tacos and a torta. One of the things I've noticed with the beef is there is nothing done to it. No marinade or injection of flavor. Both the steak taco and torta had beef that wasn't bad but certainly was plainly cooked and served. On the other hand they probably have the best chorizo here that you might have ever had. The torta has meat, bread, tomato, onion, avocado, refried beans and cheese which sounds amazing but they very much skimp on most of the ingredients. One slice of avocado so only one bite will have it on it. Refried beans so thin you don't even taste them. Almost the same with the cheese. Basically I do think they use nice ingredients but could use a rebuffing of the recipes to integrate more flavor into the dishes. There was nothing too bad about the stuff I got but it's just falls short of what other similar restaurants do. read more

I cannot say enough great things about this establishment. The service, the people, quality of food, etc., is all top-notch. My favorites are the chicken quesadilla with the handmade tortilla and the shrimp tacos topped with coleslaw. I eat at one of the two locations at least once a week. Went here today and ordered the California Burrito with a horchata. The horchata was really good. Perfectly balanced. The burrito was crazy good. Tortilla was top notch, rice cooked perfectly, fries cooked perfectly as well. The seasoning was also great. If I had to knock it on one thing it would be the amount of meat you get. The steak was cut up very very thinly and shredded throughout. So no nice big meat bites. The burrito was also huge. I could only eat half of it. I wouldn't mind the burrito having less of everything else to help the meat shine through. The salsa bar is also great. You have to try the serano salsa. Overall still have to give it 5 stars because the flavors were just so good. I will definitely be back. read more

We were in the area running errands and decided we had to try this little spot. I had been eyeing a picture of a California burrito from here with all its avocado and cheese glory and knew we had to give it a try. We ended up trying the following: Pescado Tacos ($3.25 each) California Burrito - no rice ($11.99) The fish tacos were good. They did eat on the bland side and would have been much better with a sauce and/or some salt. I loved the crunch of the slaw and the fish was perfect and crispy. With a sauce (there is an orange one in some of the pictures) or some accompaniment this would go from good to great very easily. I'd be lying if I said I was not disappointed by the cross section of my burrito (compared with the other in the photos), but it was still tasty. I could not find any sour cream or cheese, and the avocado was negligible. The flavor was still great, but it needed more (or some) of the condiments it was supposed to include. Next time I guess I will pay for extra sour cream, avocado, and cheese and see if it improves. Hubs and I love California burritos and for whatever reason they are hard to find here. Knowing these are on the menu will keep me coming back. All in all, we ended our meal satisfied and will return again. Maybe we will dine in so I can get all the condiments and sauces I need to make these dishes amazing, but this is definitely worth giving a try if you haven't yet. read more

1st time and not at all impressed w service or food. Not even a general greeting I could get from the service boys behind the counter. Even when they handed me my food, I said thank you and he turned around like I said nothing. It was really rude. They were knee-deep in their cell phones... The Pastore taco was good But could use more meat for the three dollars plus a cost.. The fish taco I would never order again it tasted like frozen fish and I regretted it. It was a good size but the flavor was freezer burnt. And my son said his carne asada burrito was ok but nothing to be excited about. The salsa were nice! I'm from California and I really miss gooood Mexican food and kind friendly service. I did almost walk out but my son loves Mexican food and I need to wrap this up. read more

A very good very authentic Mexican lunch spot. Lot of locals and authentic Hispanic people eating here so you know it's good. I had the chicken burrito . It was very tasty , served fresh off the grill. The meat was moist and not overly seasoned . I added a salsa from the salsa bar . It would help if they labeled the salsas as I did not readily recognize any of them. More importantly, they need at least a rating of heat. As usual I am looking for the hottest but most are looking for the opposite. As I said the local clientele already know the T on the salsa.Labeling would be just for us uninitiated . The restaurant is casual to the max . Plenty of tables but I imagine it fills up quickly especially on a Friday. Many of the menu items are accompanied with French fries. I find that to be a little odd. I would have been just as happy with no side as the burrito is full of meat, beans, rice,cheese and who knows what else. With a drink my order came to 14.00. A little high for a burrito and coke but hey, it's the new reality. Definitely would spend that again for this authentic meal. read more

We were happy to see a new taqueria going into the former home of a Little Caesar's on Shallowford Rd close to Steinhauer Rd almost adjacent to the Lassiter school zone in Marietta. Driving home today I saw it had opened, I stopped in to take dinner home and support a new business. El Serranito is a quick serve taqueria. It has a few inside and a couple outside tables. Parking is fine, but turning west out of the parking lot onto Shallowford can get dicey depending upon the time of day. The menu has a great assortment of street tacos. Two per order. Plus burritos, quesadillas and other tasty things. I got six tacos to take home to the family. Two carnitas. Two carne asada, and two Al Pastor. All on corn tortillas, but flour are available for non-believers. All were delicious. The Al pastor was not overly sweet, but I didn't see or taste any pineapple. The carnitas were particularly good as were the Carne Asada tacos. Overall they were very tasty. My only criticism would be that they were a little dry and could have used a little more sauce. The box came festooned with lime wedges. I definitely recommend a squeeze. It'll be worth the effort. Their salsas appeared to be homemade. Tomatillo was good and tart, and the chile de arbol was sneaky hot. The pickled carrots and jalapeños were awesome. Don't miss adding those to your plate. I also got a chicken quesadilla for my picky child. Lots of good, stringy cheese. It came with fries that were greasy, but they still disappeared into my eleven-year-old dunked in their yum yum sauce without complaint. All in all, it was really good for a newly opened spot at a very fair price. I'll certainly return to try some other offerings. The shrimp tacos looked particularly good.
