The beef patties were also really good, with a flaky exterior and a rich, savory filling. The standout for me was the bao fusion. Combining Caribbean flavors with soft bao buns was such a unique idea, and it worked incredibly well. The buns were pillowy, the fillings were flavorful, and each one felt different from the typical options you find at most Caribbean restaurants. We also tried the oxtail, which had great flavor and was cooked well. My only minor complaint was that there were quite a few bones, making it a little difficult to eat, but I also understand that's just part of ordering oxtail and not something that's entirely avoidable. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. The overall vibe is casual, relaxed, and chill--perfect for grabbing a quick meal without feeling rushed. Between the jerk chicken, beef patties, flavorful oxtail, and creative bao options, there's plenty worth coming back for. Kingston 5 delivered great food, friendly service, and a fun fusion concept. I'd definitely return and highly recommend giving the bao buns a try.

Anywho, since this is a bit of a drive from my house, I call ahead to order and by the time I get there it's ready. No waiting, no mixed up orders, always greeted properly...yeah this truck is great. I usually get a yaroa of maduros and chicken, and I have had it with fries instead of the maduros...both are great! The chimi de res is definitely a great option as well! The fritura is soooo good. The customer service is so great that I remember ordering a tamarind juice and the guy told me he recommends the chinola juice instead because the tamarind didnt taste so good by then. I appreciated his honest opinion. If you ask them for their best sellers, they can give good recommendations too, based off of what you are in the mood to eat. As I stated earlier, it's a little drive but I prefer going here than anywhere else to find fritura, chimi or yaroa if it's what I am craving. I saw some other reviews referencing delivery but there is something everyone should know, anything from a truck wont taste the same as it would if it were made FRESH. Fried food in general is this way. I definitely recommend this location for any late night cravings. Drive there though, do not order for delivery. The quality wont be the same, that is a guarantee.

I never would of guessed they were even a food truck if they hadn't been in the middle of the parking lot of course. Anyways, I took one look at the menu and pretty much knew what I wanted. I had 30 minutes to use for lunch and went in for a cup of Gumbo with some Mac n' cheese. I was expecting the typical 15-minute wait like every other food truck unless you order a dessert crepe or something but, I got my food in probably what was all of 5 minutes. I opened the Gumbo first and I am ashamed to say but, I couldn't tell you what it tasted like I was eating it so fast. The portion was extremely filling and I do remember a slight kick. They gave out a few samples of the bread pudding and to be quite honest. YESSSSS!!!! they had some delicious sauce on it and I thought I was eating banana pudding for the entire two bites. I ate the mac later that evening. It was great the cheese was cheesy but not overwhelming powerful in taste. The noodles were penne or rigatoni which was not exactly the best but I wouldn't go out and make a complaint about it either. And not to mention the staff members were all very polite, they even let me see the kitchen. Everything was spic and span. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Let me start with the beans because they deserve their own moment. I don't know what magic is happening in that kitchen but those beans are out of this world. The flavor is so deep and rich it tastes like someone's grandma has been perfecting that recipe for decades. Honestly you could order just the beans and leave completely satisfied. The rice is medium grain and cooked to perfection, which as any Puerto Rican food lover knows makes all the difference. I had the churrasco cooked to a medium well and it was incredibly tender with this beautiful mesquite flavor that had me floored. My fiancé ordered the pollo encebollado and it was just as impressive. The passion fruit juice is fresh and not from concentrate. The service was a 10 out of 10 and the owners are incredible people. We ordered: * Bistec encebollado with tostones, white rice and habichuelas: the steak and tostones overcooked and dry, tasted vinegary with no bistec juice. * Bifongo with camarones al ajillo and salad: the shrimp were also overcooked/rubbery. The picture online looked way tastier. * Arroz con gandules: the rice was bland and lacked flavor. - Cuban sandwich * Canoa (macaroni salad), alcapurrias, and two empanadas. This was particularly disappointing because our first experience with Ruta Taina had been very good. Based on that experience, we felt comfortable spending more than $90 on food for our family gathering. Unfortunately, this order was significantly below the quality we had previously experienced. Given the price, we expected better. Based on this experience, we do not plan to order from Ruta Taina again.
