We stopped for lunch while driving thru VA. We were surprised by the portion size for such a modest price. The place is small and the parking lot is a bit of a challenge (our car bottomed out) but the food was worth the challenge. Very tasty. Service was a little slow but not really a problem. read more

Its a chain like environment, gave it a chance. However, the ground beef everything approach was lackluster at best. Everything tasted the same and was not seasoned appropriately. I'm sad, because this used to be a very good restaurant. Tonight, they left off items that were supposed to be included in our meals, including tortillas, guac, and pico de gallo; it took 30 minutes to get our food, even though the restaurant wasn't busy; and the food was lukewarm at best. And when I asked for the pico de gallo and guac that was supposed to go with my quesadilla, the waitress brought me a slice of tomato and said that's what was supposed to come with it. Please see the description of the Veggie Quesadilla in the attached photo as proof that the meal was supposed to include pico and guac. A rare authentic Mexican restaurant for the region - we recently moved here from Los Angeles and are pretty picky about our Mexican food. El Saucito opened late last year (2013) and seems to have settled on a pretty big but solid menu. The servings are large, but the quality of ingredients seems really good (very tender meats, fresh veggies, etc). Also, they just got their ABC license so they've got beer and margaritas now. I've gotten into a habit of breaking from the menu and ordering a grande burrito with carnitas (grilled pork) and salsa verde on top. Awesome meal. Service is still developing, but if you're passing by on 85, the hours are good (open till 9 or 10 at night), and the kitchen is quick and efficient. Definitely worth a stop! read more

Delicious Mexican food. The molecajete Mexicano is the best dish on the menu. Has authentic taste and feel to it. They also have the good white sauce with chips.the salsa isn't my favorite but it is still good. I don't understand all the negative reviews. I've never had anything but good service. Modest exterior doesn't adequately convey the quality of food. My husband and I stopped for a late lunch and really enjoyed our meals (grilled shrimp with vegetables, a veggie fajita and a chile relleno). This was one of the few options to stop at while driving back to NC. So disappointed by the fl4 star rating. The cheese dip is runny and cold, the service slow and the food was not the best. Our meal came with rice and beans. I have one spoonful of beans. When I asked the waitress she said..." guess you get more rice". Uuuummmm okay? So disappointed . I have no idea how this place got a four star. Normally yelp is spot on. Upon walking into the restaurant we were offered any open booth which all of the booth seats were basically shredded. We sat down and an ac vent under our table was blowing straight up on me, no big deal, except it reeked of old stinky house. Like not just a little smell it smelled like straight mildew/ musty nastiness. There was trash all over the floors. They weren't super busy so we expected service to be fairly quick, no such luck. Our waitress moved at snails pace and didn't seem to be in a rush for much of anything. The only reason this place gets a two star is because their food wasn't absolutely horrible. The chicken in my enchilada and burrito tasted good but wasn't anything to write home about. Everything food wise was pretty lack luster. I'd say do yourself a favor if driving through, skip out on this place. read more

What a pleasant surprise as we were passing through town. Hard to find this place with no sign out front, but we're glad Google sent us here. It's just a little hole in the wall with no decor, but the food is delicious and the portions are generous. We enjoyed the shrimp quesadilla, mushroom quesadilla and spinach burrito. This place is a dive inside and out. But normally those places are the best hidden gems. Unfortunately this is not one of those places. We were misguided by the 4 star review but this is barely a 1 star. We started with their chips and two different sauces: a runny red tomato salsa and what can only be described as a ranch type dressing that was just plain horrible. I ordered the chimichanga plate with one fried beef and one soft chicken. Both were soft and covered with a bland cheese sauce. The beef tips in the one chimichanga was over cooked and tasteless. The rice and beans had a bad after taste that just wouldn't go away. We like to be adventurous when we travel and try different non-chain restaurants. Would have been happier at Taco Bell. read more
