We stopped for lunch while driving thru VA. We were surprised by the portion size for such a modest price. The place is small and the parking lot is a bit of a challenge (our car bottomed out) but the food was worth the challenge. Very tasty. Service was a little slow but not really a problem. read more

Bad service bad food didn't have a good time. Vibes are bad in the place. Don't recommend it. There's another place near call fiesta Mexican is way better near the loves in South Hill. read more

The food was not good today. The service was not good today either. It's a hit or miss on the food. Today they used no seasoning and we waited forever. My grandson chicken nuggets were burnt!!!I The restaurant environment was appropriate. I'm never going back. I told the younger lady about my problems and she intentionally ignored what I said. She proceeded to tell the other employees and they just looked at our table. I know they can speak English, because I been there before. Don't go!!!! read more

Its a chain like environment, gave it a chance. However, the ground beef everything approach was lackluster at best. Everything tasted the same and was not seasoned appropriately. The only edible parts were the store bought tortillas, and cheese they drowned it all in. Thanks but no thanks. read more

GREAT FOOOD!! Definitely worth the stop. Quick detour off I-85 on my way from VA to NC. I ordered combination chicken and steak quesadilla -- delicious. The Picco de Gallo is perfect. They should bottle this stuff. Super fresh. Just the right amount of spice. Friendly service. Great value. TIP: The sign out front is misleading. I went past and had to turn around. Street parking. read more

They skimp on meat on almost every meal, taco salad had 3 dime size pieces of chicken and filled the rest with lettuce, seems to be a consistent, they really cheap out on there meals. read more

Best Mexican food I've had in VA in 3 years of living here... I grew up in Southern California and this *actually* hit the spot and scratched the itch of food I miss dearly. (I ordered the salsa verde chicken burritos) read more

Took 45 minuets to get our food! They were not busy. My burrito grande was cold, my son's burrito came out beef instead of the chicken he ordered and my daughter's chimichanga was so bad she could not eat it. Don't waste your time eating here! read more

I'm sad, because this used to be a very good restaurant. Tonight, they left off items that were supposed to be included in our meals, including tortillas, guac, and pico de gallo; it took 30 minutes to get our food, even though the restaurant wasn't busy; and the food was lukewarm at best. And when I asked for the pico de gallo and guac that was supposed to go with my quesadilla, the waitress brought me a slice of tomato and said that's what was supposed to come with it. Please see the description of the Veggie Quesadilla in the attached photo as proof that the meal was supposed to include pico and guac. I've also attached the photo of the tomato, because my husband is still laughing at it. read more

A rare authentic Mexican restaurant for the region - we recently moved here from Los Angeles and are pretty picky about our Mexican food. El Saucito opened late last year (2013) and seems to have settled on a pretty big but solid menu. The servings are large, but the quality of ingredients seems really good (very tender meats, fresh veggies, etc). Also, they just got their ABC license so they've got beer and margaritas now. I've gotten into a habit of breaking from the menu and ordering a grande burrito with carnitas (grilled pork) and salsa verde on top. Awesome meal. Service is still developing, but if you're passing by on 85, the hours are good (open till 9 or 10 at night), and the kitchen is quick and efficient. Definitely worth a stop! read more

ITS A FAMILY OWNED RESTAURANT. Not a chain restaurant or environment like some say in there review. They have great food and employees. Best Mexicana food I've ever eating def better than any chain restaurant. read more

Delicious Mexican food. The molecajete Mexicano is the best dish on the menu. Has authentic taste and feel to it. They also have the good white sauce with chips.the salsa isn't my favorite but it is still good. I don't understand all the negative reviews. I've never had anything but good service. Staff is extremely friendly. The tortilla soup is great! read more

Excellent....the food was delicious...the chef came to our table....huge portions ..super friendly place!!

I believe they have new owners and the changes aren't great. They charge for extra chips and salsa?? The chips were stale and the salsa bland. The food was good for the area but menu small unless you go a la carte. Ok for a once in awhile which is how often I visit read more

Great service. Food is a plus very clean a affordable prices. Yes if I'm around I will comeback.

The food was DELICIOUS! Obviously a family run business and in the best of ways! We will definitely be stopping in when we drive through again. Very impressed!! read more

This family owned restaurant is very good and the people are so friendly. I have been here multiple times and everything I have gotten was excellent. I don't think you can go wrong. Highly recommend! read more

Modest exterior doesn't adequately convey the quality of food. My husband and I stopped for a late lunch and really enjoyed our meals (grilled shrimp with vegetables, a veggie fajita and a chile relleno). We will definitely stop by again on any future trip that brings us through South Hill. read more

This was one of the few options to stop at while driving back to NC. So disappointed by the fl4 star rating. The cheese dip is runny and cold, the service slow and the food was not the best. Our meal came with rice and beans. I have one spoonful of beans. When I asked the waitress she said..." guess you get more rice". Uuuummmm okay? So disappointed . Wasted an hour of our time for nothing. read more

5 stars from me!!! wonderful delicious corn tacos with tender carnitas and steak / fresh cilantro and onion / and all the above above. I have no idea how this place got a four star. Normally yelp is spot on. Upon walking into the restaurant we were offered any open booth which all of the booth seats were basically shredded. We sat down and an ac vent under our table was blowing straight up on me, no big deal, except it reeked of old stinky house. Like not just a little smell it smelled like straight mildew/ musty nastiness. There was trash all over the floors. They weren't super busy so we expected service to be fairly quick, no such luck. Our waitress moved at snails pace and didn't seem to be in a rush for much of anything. The only reason this place gets a two star is because their food wasn't absolutely horrible. The chicken in my enchilada and burrito tasted good but wasn't anything to write home about. Everything food wise was pretty lack luster. I'd say do yourself a favor if driving through, skip out on this place. read more

What a pleasant surprise as we were passing through town. Hard to find this place with no sign out front, but we're glad Google sent us here. It's just a little hole in the wall with no decor, but the food is delicious and the portions are generous. We enjoyed the shrimp quesadilla, mushroom quesadilla and spinach burrito. The chips and salsa and white dip were fresh and plentiful. The service was fast and friendly. read more

El Saucito - Beef and bean burrito (#28 on lunch menu) - Mexican Near Me - South Hill, Virginia

This place is a dive inside and out. But normally those places are the best hidden gems. Unfortunately this is not one of those places. We were misguided by the 4 star review but this is barely a 1 star. We started with their chips and two different sauces: a runny red tomato salsa and what can only be described as a ranch type dressing that was just plain horrible. I ordered the chimichanga plate with one fried beef and one soft chicken. Both were soft and covered with a bland cheese sauce. The beef tips in the one chimichanga was over cooked and tasteless. The rice and beans had a bad after taste that just wouldn't go away. We like to be adventurous when we travel and try different non-chain restaurants. Would have been happier at Taco Bell. read more

Great food every time we go. Very fresh. Staff is awesome. Very clean. They take Covid seriously. You won't be disappointed.

The chimichanga was supposed to be fried and was soggy. No cheese, beans were runny would have preferred the rice. Exit door in main dining section, we froze our entire meal with all the people leaving and letting in the cold air. Should have gone somewhere else. read more

Shut the back door front and all the windows. The soup is home made and the surf and turf dip , a side dish with the soup is awesome!

I've got to admit, the food is great!!! The chips and salsa/white sauce are delicious, but the customer service is the worst I've ever experienced. You basically have to help yourself or you'll be here for hours. But I continue to eat here for the food. read more

We stopped here on the way to South Carolina and we LOVED it!!! The food was amazingly authentic and delicious. The margarita was phenomenal...definitely one of the best I have ever had! The entire family enjoyed their food...and the prices were incredible. For a family of four with a 32 oz margaritas the bill was 40 bucks! We just wish el Saucito was closer to home! If you are a local or like us...just passing by...this is a MUST!!! read more

Delicious. Huge portions, very friendly service- owner and his wife introduced their children to ours, and the wife even offered to share the birthday Tres Leches cake she had made for herself. We were too full! The best kind of "greasy spoon;". I was fighting for southern cuisine off 85 and I'm glad I let my husband win. read more

very good Mexican food, and a nice surprise. I was planning to have McDonald's right across the street as I was travelling along the I-85, then I saw this place, gave it a try and it was unforgettable! The grill is very good and in big serving, with beef, scallop and shrimp. It tastes so good when served with the rice in their sauce. Definitely give this place a try if you're passing by! read more

This place is awesome!! We weren't sure from the location but were pleasantly surprised! A great stopping place off of I-85! We ordered the mixed grill plate special (called the mocajete).
