Tía Maria's Kitchen has officially earned a permanent spot on my list of favorite restaurants in…read moreNew Orleans. I've ordered from Uber Eats plenty of times, but this was my first time actually dining in, and I'm so glad I did. It's a small, cozy spot where you can actually see the food being cooked. It gives "grandmas and aunties are in the back making sure every plate is seasoned with love," and honestly... that's exactly what it tastes like. This time I tried the beef liver with onions and bell peppers, and it was SO good. Perfectly seasoned, tender, and cooked just right. Can we talk about the rice for a second? I don't know what they cook it in, but it has to be some kind of broth because it is hands down some of the best rice I've ever had. Every grain is perfectly cooked. It's not gummy, not hard... just perfect. The refried beans? Absolutely incredible. I brought some home and literally had to hide my leftovers from my daughters because they kept trying to eat my food. I've also had their beef soup (the short rib soup), and it's one of my favorites. Their pupusas are delicious, the pickled cabbage that comes with them is addictive, and the sweet plantains are amazing. I ordered a mojito too. It wasn't super strong, but it was refreshing and paired really well with the meal. The service was excellent. Everyone was so kind and welcoming, and I found out they have free Wi-Fi and a rewards program, which I never knew because I usually order delivery. If you're looking for authentic Honduran food in New Orleans, do yourself a favor and check out Tía Maria's Kitchen. Everything I've tried has been consistently delicious, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Honduran food in New Orleans? Definitely!…read more After Match Day, we went to celebrate at Tia Maria's Kitchen. Love, love, love this cozy mama and papa restaurant. It was busy at lunchtime, but it gave us time to reflect on the hard work that led to two of my daughters matching in great residency programs. Two years ago, we also celebrated another amazing match day with a friend who flew in from San Francisco to help our family celebrate. I had the San Pedro Maduro. A deep fried plantain filled with veggies, black beans, avocados, crema and queso. I had mine with chicken. One of my daughters did hers with more veggies. Absolutely delicious! My family ordered a wide variety of papusas and tacos. Definitely add an agua Fresca. Loved the horchata, but the favorite was the moracuya. Blackberry and passion fruit. So refreshing and delicious. Muchas gracias for welcoming our family and friends into your cocina familiar. We loved enjoying your family's kitchen on a special day celebrating another chapter of our family's journey. #2800

Edgar puts his special touch on it. It's worth the extra dollars absolutely refreshing with a "punch"! Honduran version of burrito is a delicate flour, tortilla the size of your plate with soft eggs made with Honduran cream, and just the right accoutrements. Crispy chips with spicy sweet sauce the minute you sit down. Delicate Empanadas to die for especially the chicken/olive/raisen!

Service Despite having a limited menu specifically for Valentine's Day, service was slow. It took two hours to get through all three courses. We had the same server as the last time, and she was still warmer to my wife. I'm a customer too and will gladly spend my money elsewhere. Another thing I find annoying is they're always trying to get you to buy a bottle of wine. When I saw the special menu on Open Table, it didn't mention alcohol. We tried to substitute the required bottle of wine with mocktails, but that was a no-go. Presentation: 11/10: They make some of the most beautiful drinks and dishes. Every dish is magazine-worthy. Food Ropa Viega--8/10-the meat was chewy, but had a good flavor. The cornbread was ok. Crabmeat Spring Rolls--8/10--these were different, like a crab cake inside of an egg roll. Hanger Steak--7/10--the steak had the texture of roast, and reminded me of my appetizer. The execution, while pretty, didn't align with my expectations. Baked Banana Mango Cheesecake: 7/10: I like that it was light. Oftentimes cheesecake is heavy. Pan de Pan--5/10--I didn't try the ice cream, but this is not a good take on bread pudding. It was way too dry and didn't have much flavor. Green Passion Mocktail--9/10--cucumber-forward, but still pretty tasty and satisfying.

Biggest pleasant surprise was the pabellon arepas I had ordered to go, which tasted AMAZING even 2-3 days later. It comes with 2 that you can mix and match, and each arepa so filling one order made a total of 2 meals. Got a large side order of tostones for $10 which seemed steep at first but ended up being plenty for 2 meals. Arepas are the perfect mix of soft, moist, but dense enough to hold up after reheating. Food is made with love and authentic tasting. I grew up eating Venezuelan food for 20+ years in Brooklyn and Queens, can definitely vouch for this place. Mango agua Fresca was great. Service was lovely and welcoming. Definitely a new local staple I'll be checking out on the regular. Doesn't hurt that it's next to Creole Creamery if you have room left lol

The portion size was insultingly small for $14. 1/3 the volume of a burrito bowl from a national chain. Less than 1/3 the volume of a bowl from Juan's Flyjng. And yes, I know it wasn't a "burrito bowl" but that's beside the point. Also, $4 for a small glass (jar) of ice tea. No refill offered. I won't go back. Our server was wonderful.
