This restaurant was super busy (especially on a taco tuesday special)! The restaurant is big, with a side parking lot. The staff were busy, causing some delay in getting our drinks, however, the staff were super friendly and handling a big crowd. We did order guacamole that we did not receive but we did not mind due to the busyness of the restaurant and how much faster the food came out compared to the drinks. The drinks were huge! We all got a combination of the taco special with a side of rice &/or beans. The birria tacos were good! The chicken tacos were pretty good, but we personally liked the birria more. Not bad for $1.99 tacos! Our waitress was absolutely amazing!! She helped us get a celebration dessert. The staff that came out for the song were very friendly & it was a great experience!!! We were nearby at a brewery and decided to pop in for dinner. There was a large group of us including children and they were able to accommodate us all. With that large a group is was amazing they were able to get all the drinks and food correct. The staff is super nice and welcoming. There is plenty of parking. The menu is huge so something for everyone. The highlight of our night was when we all tried on sombreros and did a shot. It was a night to remember with delicious food and good friends. Very disappointing experience. The service was not very attentive...we had to ask for water refills and for cutlery after our food arrived. The kitchen apparently lost our order, which was only two orders of tacos al carbon, resulting in about an hour wait while they had less than four tables total. The food was okay, but nothing memorable or worth the delay. They tried to make it right by taking a drink and our appetizer off the bill. As a former Texan, some of their dishes get a gold star. We first tried this place thanks to RI food fights. Its out of the way from where we live in Providence, but we've already been back twice since then. The #1 thing that I recommend is the tacos al carbon - which is a marinated taco using fork and knives. I usually prefer street tacos, but the al carbon tacos are absolutely amazing. The whole thing is incredibly tender because of the marination, super flavorful, and has a nice spice to keep it interesting throughout. Otherwise, I've tried their enchiladas, street tacos, and guac. First two are pretty good and guac was surprisingly disappointing. Ambiance is very fun, portion sizes are huge, staff are super friendly. All in all, I would highly recommend this place for the tacos al carbon if for nothing else. A solid option for a fun night out with friends, and definitely come hungry. read more

This place is my hidden gem for authentic Tex Mex food! I found it from the RI Food Fights Tacomania and haven't looked back since. It's a little drive out from Providence, but there's so much ample parking, and once you get inside, you are transported to the Tex Mex world. Chips and dip are great, and all the tacos we tried are great. It is a bit on the pricier end, but a price I will pay for delicious food! Service is quick and attentive. New restaurant alert! Thanks to RI Food Fights, we are hot on the #TacoMania trail this month. Last night, it took us to a new restaurant in Cumberland: El Rodeo Mexican Bar and Grill. Their tag line is "Come Hungry, Leave Amazed". And that we were!!! It is a large restaurant with two bars & numerous dining areas. We sat at the back bar & one of the owners was bartending. He was so excited to have such passionate eaters to chat with - he even gave us more chips so I could make chilaquiles for breakfast this weekend! The ultimate margarita was on point & hubby is always happy to have a chilled glass with his Modelo Especial. Tortilla chips came out with a delicious salsa & amazing refried beans sprinkled with Cotija cheese & pico de gallo. I literally could have made a meal of that! We only ordered tacos since that is what we were there to do. I went with the Tacos Jalisco & hubby selected the Tacos de Birria. Both were outstanding! The housemade hot sauce/salsa was kickin'. We watched one plate after another of delicious looking food come out of the kitchen. They have a tableside guacamole cart. The menu is extensive & we can't wait to go back to try other items! We are excited about El Rodeo! Opening weekend. Impressed with the changes they made inside to make it Mexican. Love that they are dressed western and are sticking with the theme. The employees were supper attentive and friendly. The free chips and salsa also came with a plate of refried beam with some ctija cheese in it. Tasty! My blackberry margarita, jumbo and flavorful! Just wish it was a sugar rim vs. Salt (that's just my preference.) I went with steak fajitas. Great seasoning on the meet. I appreciate the size of all the fixings and 4 tortillas instead of three. Salt in needed int which refried beans and as a white girl, i like the basic tortillas as opposed to traditional (its just my preference.) Excited to see this new happening spot in Cumberland! It's been packed every time we have been! Service has been awesome! Super attentive - even when super busy! Nice new spot in Cumberland! The restaurant itself is beautiful and the menu is expansive. There's definitely something for everyone here. You're immediately given complementary chips, salsa, and bean dip. It's definitely a nice touch and all tasted great! I ordered the Pacifico chimichanga. It came with avocado, rice, sour cream, and beans along with the chimichanga. The meal itself was filling and stuffed with shrimp and scallops. Definitely worth the $20. I do wish the chimichanga was crispier though. My only minor critiques are the volume of the restaurant as it was loud in there. Also, for $4 a soft drink I wish my waiter was a bit more attentive and offered a refill. That's a pretty steep price but atleast the glasses were large! Otherwise this is a great place and with so many options I'm sure I'll be trying many more in the future. read more

Stopped in for RI Food Fights Taco Mania! I wanted to love this place, but it fell a little short of my expectations. The only options for Taco Mania! were ground beef or chicken tacos, which weren't bad, but something I could have made at home. The service was just okay as we received two orders of the tacos when we only ordered one. And I also ordered a draft Guinness which arrived as a bottle with a glass which was a little disappointing. The atmosphere was good on a busy Saturday evening. I will say that the taco selections that were on the menu did sound very interesting. So maybe we'll have to stop back to give it another try. read more

We visited El Rodeo for the first time tonight and really enjoyed the food and ambiance. There are two bars here and a few different seating areas. We were seated at a booth in the dining room, which was very attractive with dark wood and colorful murals. We ordered house margaritas to start, and they were large and flavorful. A basket of complimentary warm tortilla chips, delicious bean dip with cotija cheese, and salsa were brought to our table, and they were all devoured immediately. For food we ordered the birria tacos, tacos al carbon (steak, onions & cotija cheese), and a pork tamale with beans and rice. The tacos were all flavorful and so good, as were the beans and rice. The pork tamale was very good as well. Service was great at El Rodeo and all of the staff members we encountered were polite, pleasant, and helpful. It was a pleasant surprise to find such a good Mexican Restaurant in Cumberland, and I hope we'll be able to return to El Rodeo soon! read more

First time dining at this stellar Mexican restaurant. Staff were friendly and efficient, refilling drinks promptly and checking in regularly. Food was top-notch and in large portions. The fajitas were the best we have had in MA/RI, tender, well-seasoned and generous with the protein. The beans were so good--smoky and unctuous--we ordered an extra side to go with our leftovers! We went last night for my birthday dinner. We have been wanting to try the food since they opened . We have heard great things about it and gave it a try. They did not disappoint from the moment we walked in till we left. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and did not have to wait to be seated. Everyone was friendly and helpful with the menu. The chips, salsa, and beans they bring to start with were excellent. There were four of us in our party and we each had something different and everything was spiced perfectly and the pairing they served with the dishes were great also. I had the bacon and shrimp tacos which came with rice and a tortilla soup. Two of my daughters had different types of chicken quesadillas. My husband had a chicken dish that was amazing also. I had the CoronaRita to drink. It wasn't too sweet. It seemed to be a busy night for birthdays because the staff must have sang Happy Birthday 5 times including when they sang to me. Had to come see what all the hoopla was about. Been hearing good things about what the Ol' J Grays has become. The parking needs some logistic work. It was tight maneuvering through the lot. Huge restaurant. 3 rooms. 2 big bars (unsure about the 3rd room we didn't see) I was enjoying the music but It was a little loud but we were also right near the speaker. Our waitress was very nice. We didn't have cocktails. Surprisingly we got refried beans w pico and cotijo cheese with the free chips and salsa. I had the Birria tacos and my husband had the Enchilada rodeo. Everything was delish. My tacos were so temperature hot I had to wait to eat them. I loved the beans they served with it. Different than the usually Refried beans. Too much to finish so we took home leftovers and NO room for dessert. I couldn't give it 5 stars cuz They did charge my husband for 2 sodas, when it clearly says "free refills" on the menu. The waitress had already put it through when we realized but the manager gave us a $20 GC for a future visit. That more than made up for the mistake. Included beans and rice as sides and the rice was especially good. Large TVs if you want to catch news or games. And there are actually two separate bars in the building. Prices are reasonable.
