Excellent food and fresh. Everything was prepared by the owner on the spot. A hole in the wall place with great food.

Where do I start! First off, Lempira, the name of the restaurant, is the currency for Honduras!…read moreThat plays a popular factor in knowing that they have Honduran, or "Comida Catracho". I have been dying for a good baleada since leaving New Orleans, and it was a Sunday morning, and I decided you know what, we are going to find somewhere today! Although this place is 35 minutes away from my home, I decided a good baleada is always worth the drive! Before I go further I have to explain what this delicacy is! A Baleada is a traditional Honduran dish, a flour tortilla filled with refried beans, sour cream, and crumbled hard cheese, and it can also refer to a "shooting victim" in Spanish. The one referenced above is called a 'Sencilla' or a simple one. There is also the one that adds carne asada too it, which I recommend. So I made the drive out to Lempira, and the parking was pretty limited. Maybe about 12 parking spaces total. Went in and was blown away at the beauty of the interior! There was photos of Honduras and El Salvador on the walls and I was in awe! There is a long bar on the right hand side of the restarent when you walk in as well! To speed things up, we paid and drove home. The baleadas were good, BUT I was shocked at the size of it for the price. That is the only reason I am giving four stars. It was smaller and less full than the past ones I have had. Overall, we enjoyed the food and would most definitely come back to try a good Sopa De Mondongo (Cow Tongue Soup) or the popular Pollo Con Tajadas!

You could drive past this place one hundred times and never even see it. Heck, you might not even think it's an open and functioning business. It simply doesn't draw your eye. But, stop in and learn about handmade food that is exceptional. It was just one woman working inside and my order took 20 minutes for her to make. Why? She was hand making every single item. I could hear her back there pounding the bread and doing it all manually. The product she turned out was some of the best Mexican/Honduran food I've had lately. The cheese enchiladas and the cheese pupusas were simply mouth watering and I will be ordering them again. The woman who made all this was friendly and very helpful. She seemed genuinely happy I was ordering food from her place. She might be the owner from the level of care she put into my order. The building itself is nothing to speak of. It looks like a run down old house now zoned commercially. It sits under a dilapidated highway advertisement sign. It simply doesn't look like much but a treasure trove of food is happening inside. Give this place a chance, you won't be disappointed. They do have a few tables inside to eat at as well as a few tables outside. It's not in the best area of town but these kind of truly authentic places after aren't. I'm still smiling from the food. Don't forget to try the actual watermelon juice, it was also "off the hook" good.
