A great local hangout that never seems to be too busy.The owner is almost always on site and the staff go out of their way to make you feel as comfortable as possible. There is a small arcade/game room in the back of the restaurant that makes the place popular with the kiddos. Dollar tacos on Mondays, but I'd recommend the Charro Beans, Fajitas or the Choripollo for a better dining experience. read more

This is the best Mexican restaurant in the Akron area. We drive about 25 minutes from the Kent area just to get good, authentic food. It's affordable, delicious, quick and there's a HUGE menu. The margaritas are strong and fairly priced. I get the chimichangas almost every time I'm there, and I've never been disappointed. The free chips and salsa are both very good. I have noticed that they recently changed their wait staff. No complaints here, just an observation. Also, be wary of the specials / coupons they offer. You can only do one per order. I went there once during the margarita happy hour, and they wouldn't let me use a 25% off coupon, which I thought was a bit ridiculous. Would highly recommend! read more

Love this place. We've been dining here for two years. The staff is always friendly and they have started to recognize us when we walk in. They have a huge menu and everything on it is awesome. There are always good specials, but we like the Saturday pitcher. Never have to wait for a table even when the place seems packed and the food is always fast and fresh. One of the best dining experience iv had in a long time. The food is good and the service is great. My glass was never let to get more than half empty, and everything i asked for was promptly provided. Its almost like every server is your server and that is a wonderful thing. I have been here twice and have been pleased with the food both times. The first time i got the fish tacos and an order of tamale's. The fish tacos are amazing. Little chunks of perfectly seasoned red snapper topped with lettuce and salsa. I LOVE the tamales. They will be the main reason i come here. The sauce is so flavorful. At some places the actual tamale is flavorless, and dry. Not the case here. The meat they are stuffed with is delicious. The second time i had the grande burrito stuffed with steak. WOW this thing is big. It has meat, beans, rice, and sour cream sauce in it. Served with lettuce, sour cream, and salsa. This burritos was even better later at home when i microwaved it. I highly recommend this place. It is rightfully at the top of my favorite Mexican restaurants. read more

We'd read the reviews before going, and were expecting an ok meal. Neither one of us wanted to drink, so we both ordered lemonade. A pale pink, weak, warm thing arrived. It was tepid, so I gave it a stir and there was dirt bits floating in it. I told the waiter and he said sorry (kind of) and brought me another. Not five mins later, I pulled a hair out of the salsa. Again told the waiter, he just grunted and brought me a fresh one. I ordered "texana" fajitas - chicken, steak and shrimp. Second bite of steak was all gristle. The whole thing was bland, over cooked and the service was only vaguely passable. When he cleared our plates (mine about 25% eaten) he asked if I wanted a box, I replied, hell no, and he just shrugged and walked away. No inquiry - just wasn't bothered. I was just there today for lunch. The last time I was there I swore I would never go back because the staff was so rude and unprofessional (in behavior and dress). One woman today was dressed like a hooker. Same case the last time. My server today was the same one I had several months ago. He acts like he is above serving altogether. The place was filthy and when I complained, the server just smiled and shrugged his shoulders. He was very rude when I reminded him that we did not want lemon in our waters after ordering it that way. The worst part of our visit and the reason WE WILL NEVER RETURN is the bugs that came crawling out onto our table at the end of our meal. I pointed them out to an older gentleman server who happened to be walking by. He said, 'Yes, I see them, so...' I said, 'They are bugs on my table.' He then reluctantly took a used napkin from my table and used it to wipe the bugs away. Just then my server was approaching with my check. He handed the soiled napkin with the bugs inside to the server. He AGAIN just shrugged his shoulders and handed me my check. At this point, I asked to speak with the Manager. The server verified that I needed a manager and agreed to get him/her for me. After waiting several minutes (maybe 10-12), I caught another server walking by and explained that I was waiting several minutes to speak with the Mgr. He immediately agreed to go and get the Manager. The Manager arrived and claimed he had never been told that I wanted to speak with him, though he was watching me the whole time from across the restaurant through their cheesy room dividers. WOW! The Manager said he is also the OWNER...Didn't care at all about my concerns relating to the heavily soiled menu, the bad attitude of the server and certainly not the bugs on my table. He actually stood there and looked around and said, 'That's funny, I don't see any anywhere else. That's funny.' His attitude certainly reflected someone who was not at all concerned about the cleanliness of the facility or my satisfaction as a customer. In fact, when I told him that I would not be returning, he stated, 'I have a lot of customers. A hundred and fifty people come in here every day' and SHRUGGED HIS SHOULDERS! What is it with the shoulders??? I will never return and would NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone. Certainly not a friend. Rude and filthy. read more

I've never really had bad Mexican food before, until tonight at El Rancho. Ordered a pitcher of margs that were just terrible. Tasted like powdered bug juice. First off it was a Saturday at 7pm, the place was a ghost town, the first sign I should have went 10min down the street to a better restaurant. So we decided to give it one more try, the first visit was sub par, very salty food. So Saturday's special was pitchers of Margaritas for 12.99. They tasted like someone took lime Popsicle, let them met and poured them over ice. Has to order two shots of Jose Cuervo (7.99each?!) just to get past the cheap flavor of the margaritas. My date couldn't drink the margarita at all so I was left to finish it. She ordered a #62 $14 burrito that came with grilled chicken and pineapple. The chicken was the quality of Taco Bell's and the pineapple was straight from a can. I ordered a side Grilled Chicken Quesadilla for $6.99. The chicken was poor frozen quality, the portion was absolutely unreasonable, I left hungry. I have gone to other margarita specials at other Mexican restaurants and they were 100% better, you could taste that there was tequila in them. I have gotten bigger portions, fresher food for way less. For two people it was $61 and I left hungry. I could have had any other Mexican place for $20 less than that and had so much food I would be taking it home. Will not be returning for this place even if it's free, frozen food, canned fruits and cheap over sweetened weak margaritas. The end. Don't go here, it's terrible quality and portions. read more

Decent margaritas, decent food, but the waiter flat lied to us about the bill when we questioned him. El Rancho is more like El Sucko. I give this place a chance maybe once a year, likely because I forget how mediocre the food is. The margaritas are no good, they use sour mix in them that makes them taste rancid. I love very close to this place, which is a good thing, because I may someday need to stumble home if I have more than one margarita and a shot. My family goes here regularly and we know about half of the wait staff as well as the owner by name. This is a very good semi-authentic Mexican restaurant! The margaritas are strong but very tasty, the chips have been perfect every time I went except for once (they were slightly burned that one time), and the salsa is always on point, especially if you ask for some fresh cilantro on the side! I order the burrito tropical which is a massive burrito with chicken, steak, onions, and beans inside with a cheese sauce, pineapple, chorizo, and shrimp on top. If you can't decide what to get, this dish literally has it all and could easily feed 2 slightly below-average eaters. I have been known to pig out on the whole thing though!!! To all the nay-sayers, must have been here on a bad night. Definitely give them a second chance, they are truly there to make their guests happy. read more
