El Rancho is one of my go-to restaurants because it's so close to home, you know what you're expecting, it's quick, and if you want to get a little tipsy they have plenty of margaritas to go around! I'm vegetarian and my favorite things are their cheese quesadillas and chalupas. I love a chalupa! My boyfriend tried their hamburger the other day which honestly should be called "everything but the kitchen sink" because it had every possible topping on it.

$0.99 tacos on Mondays, WHAT?!? And the margaritas are DELICIOUS!!! Peach sooo good. And yummy queso, too!

    Fajitas combo.

Not impressed at all. Ordered the avocado appetizer. It had a strange taste and was as though it had been placed in a blender and liquified. I ordered the fajitas combo. It was piled high with bell peppers and onions. I was lucky to get 3 tacos out of it. The service and the really hot salsa were the only positives of my visit.

In a gist: gosh darn good. El Rancho replaced the failing Yocono's much to the neighborhood's happiness. They did a fantastic job really sprucing up the landscaping (thank you) as well as the interior of this restaurant. It now looks like an asset to the area instead of a blight. It looks like someone actually gives a damn here, which I really like to see. I dropped by to pick up lunch to go earlier this week, my stomach has been acting up but I was desperately craving Mexican food. While I'm from Texas, I don't claim to be the best evaluator of Mexican food, but I do know that the best way to judge the overall quality of a place is by their tamales. If you can't do a simple food well, the rest of your food is probably going to be pretty bad. It's the Mexican equivalent of roast beef and mashed potatoes. If you can't get those right, I'm not letting you try to feed me anything else. Tamales were solid. The masa was clean and fresh tasting with a sturdy texture, the shredded pork was spicy and flavorful. They were topped with enchilada sauce and cheese, which I actually considered licking my plate. Whoever is in back clearly knows what they are doing in the kitchen. And I can appreciate that. Since then, I've also tried the chicken chimichanga. It was a touch too salty for my tastes (but most restaurant food is too salty), but the chicken was fantastic. Came with rice and beans, guac and sour cream. Definitely a filling lunch for under $6.

Food was bland and served cold. Wait staff was rude. Not a good experience overall, one of the worst Mexican restaurants in the city.

We discovered Amigos a couple years ago, when seating was very limited, but they recently expanded and the decor is more inviting and authentic. We've tried a lot of things on this menu and have never been disappointed. Our food has always been fresh and plentiful, served with a smile. Two things I can ecstatically recommend: their house guacamole and their margaritas. Their hearty and bold guacamole is made fresh to order right at your table and it's become our favorite guacamole. We love their mango margaritas. We have found chunks of mango in ours, and make certain to always get the rims coated with tajin because they use tamarind to get the spice to stick to the rim--so tasty! This is a really enjoyable restaurant we always look forward to visiting!

This time I was inspired to look for a Mexican ceviche. In my most recent adventure, I visited Taqueria La Loma in Akron and very much enjoyed my meal. After ordering from the counter, I sat down and was quickly given some fresh chips and salsa to snack on. Although these were delicious, I probably should have passed on this because what I ordered was much more that I could eat alone. I was impressed by the flavor and value of the Mixed (shrimp and octopus) Ceviche, and would absolutely suggest it to anyone. I'd never had octopus ceviche before, and was concerned about chewiness, but was pleasantly surprised at how tender it was. I assume the shrimp ceviche is similarly good. I also ordered 3 birria tacos. I found there was maybe slightly too much cheese in the taco, but the tasty consomé dip was impressive. To wash it all down, I had one of the best horchata drinks I've ever had in my life. It was sooo good and a must-have. The staff was attentive and helpful, and the food came out quickly. The restaurant was basic, but clean, and looks like the kind of authentic place you'd want to go for a casual but tasty Mexican food meal. I will be recommending this place to my co-workers in the Akron office, and will go back again next time I'm in town.

One of the best parts of a chimichanga is the deep fried exterior and crunch. Here they smother the chimichanga in cheese so there was no crunch to it. Paleteria La Fresa also has a rotating stock of homemade popsicles in familiar and unique flavors, from strawberry to avocado to Mexican custard! My Yelp friend who joined me for dinner and dessert there a few days ago has tried at least a dozen flavors - her favorite is avocado. This was my first visit to this restaurant and spent some time looking at the pantry stuff for sale (didn't get anything) and debating which flavor of popsicle to get for my first visit here, before ordering two Mexican street tacos and one carne asada sopes for dinner. My meal also came with unlimited chips and salsa which we immediately demolished! Ultimately, I chose to get the Mexican cake popsicle flavor which was so smooth and creamy and milky and then crunchy with Mexican chocolate slabs inside! It was very refreshing, unique, and not very expensive at 3 bucks. My tacos were saved for later (and tasted delicious a couple hours later at home) but I ate the sopes at the restaurant. It was generously piled with carne asada and the corn pancake was 1000/10! I will absolutely order sopes again! For $16.50, I had a lot of food, a nice treat, and great company. I plan to come again!
