I have to start with everything was sticky. Im a very tactile person and this beginning made me worry some about the cleanliness and quality of food they would present. I was deliciously surprised! I had a steak strip burrito that was covered in queso sauce and made with a lot of moisture and full flavors while not being too spicy. Im sure they could kick it up a notch if one was so inclined. We had a tag-team of waiters and they were great at not interrupting conversation and refilling our drinks. Not a hole in the wall but if choosing between an American diner or Mexican Ranchito, Ill go for the Mexican every time because you can make a taco 100 ways. It's a good Mexican restaurant in the area. Lots of lunch specials, almost 2 pages! With lots of different varieties. All at a pretty decent price. This is a great Mexican restaurant! Nothing fancy (which I love) but the food was outstanding. The gentleman waiting on us was great. I had the burrito Mexicana. I had pork. Every single time I go here, they either leave off key ingredients to the entree I order, or forget something else I've paid for like cheese dip and such. After the 5th time in a row of paying for food I never received, I am here to inform everyone to not go here. These people are rude and unappreciative of the business they do get. They will argue with you and everything else even when you show them your food and receipt. Also, you can get better guac at a gas station. Theirs is more like unripe avacado chunks thrown into some chopped up over garlic-Ed onions. read more

Fantastic better-than-the-rest authentic Mexican cuisine. You can get the 'regular' stuff you're used to seeing at run of the mill Mexican restaurants but Ranchito's menu just steps it up. I recommend the simple but great al pastor tacos or the giant bowl of caldo de pollo, add avocado. read more

I've only been here once on my way to a meeting in Huntington, so a word of warning that my review may not be completely representative. I went there for lunch on a hot, summer day and was greeted by nice burst of cold air when I walked it. Not too bad.. but I began to freeze in a matter of minute... I think you could have hung meet in there and it would have met the health code for temperature! I went to the restroom (I wouldn't recommend this if you don't really have to go) and it felt like the kitchen was 90 degrees. It was clear the thermostat was probably in the kitchen and the AC just kept running in the restaurant area and not doing much for the kitchen. Now onto the food side... chips and salsa... good... chimichanga (without peppers and onions)... amazing. I just ate it quick to prevent from catching pneumonia. Service was OK. Prices are good. I can't recommend this one. 1) no bar, bad for travelers that like to sit at bar 2) ordered shrimp fajitas, the shrimp was over cooked and the veggies (onion and green peppers) had little flavor. For a hole in the wall, this place has a couple unique traits: 1) the guacamole is very chunky. I love the change of texture for once. All the solid ingredients in it are chunky - the avocado, onions and tomatoes. It allows you to practically isolate the tastes to an extent 2) the vegetarian chimichanga is very good. Mine was fried just right without the typical overcooking. The veggies in it seemed legit as well. Despite the guess that this was likely an old Wendy's, I really enjoyed the experience as the wait staff checked on me quite often and seemed to care for all the peeps eating here. read more

I have to say I was very surprised at the quality of the cuisine here. Authentic salsa, main courses & margaritas! The quacamole was to die for! I had the Fajitas Carnitias my guest has the Pollo Fajitas & Steak Nachos, all of which were excellent. We dined during a late lunch hour on a Sunday & the atmosphere was that of more family than college students, altho I'm sure this is a great place for the younger crowd during a sports event! I used to frequently visit this location and over the last few months I've seen a steady decline to the point I won't go back. Quality of food is awful now and it used to be good and a great place to visit. Hair in the food and I still had a bill to pay. Not at all happy with wait staff , prefer the original owners and just sad to see such a great little place go down hill as this has. Ok several months later I want to post an update of improvement I have seen! The wait staff is friendly and something seems to have breathed new life into this place. I was really impressed with El Ranchito. Their staff was friendly, their service was fast, the food was delicious, and the food/drinks were very reasonably priced. It is kind of a college atmosphere, there were a few very intoxicated individuals here on Friday night, but my boyfriend and I had a really fun time. I got the classic lime margarita, and I ordered the vegetarian burrito which came with two chalupas. It was all very very good! No complaints at all! This place has wonderful specials and great prices. My boyfriend and I both got our meal and a margarita a piece under $20. I would highly recommend. read more

I really wish you could give half stars. This is 4.5 Tex Mex eatery. Fresh as Tex Mex is by nature. The complimentary chips were an hour or so old but that's to be expected on an early Saturday afternoon. All the dishes served to our party of five were well prepared and plentiful. I did notice "spice" or "heat" was lacking. The Chile Rellonos was above average. Chicken enchiladas also well prepared and the green chili sauce I requested was really tasty, but void of any "heat"..Avocado used liberally on the accompanying salads which is always good....Great food at fast food prices..Can't imagine you could per take of any better Tex Mex at this price in the tristate region. read more

We live in Huntington Beach and until today were faithful customers of El Ranchito. We go there so often we never even need a menu because we always order the same thing for the three of us and because I used to be in a similar business, we would always tip big. But, not today...it was my daughter's birthday so we celebrated with a pitcher of maggies. When we received the bill, we see that the pitcher of margaritas was $65.00. Since we've always paid $35.00 for the same thing in the past, my wife blew her top at the price increase. She noticed that it said "Premium" on the bill....and no one, but no one uses a premium booze on a blended drink, especially since we didn't ask for it. We think that quite possibly we weren't recognized & they thought that we were tourists and would justify gouging us. Anyway, my wife complained & got it reduced to $57.00 which is still $22.00 too much. That was a very expensive margarita...for them because they lost three customers. read more

I said, please leave this so he can eat. She brought out two tacos for me and charged us for an extra order. When we brought to her attention, she said it was bc I wouldn't let her take the plate from my child! We left the two wrong tacos so we wouldn't get charged! Who does that?!?!? This is by far the best Mexican place in the area. They are kiddo friendly, very authentic flavors (ask for the HOT salsa!) and the draft beer is always cold. Read the good reviews but after my first time there, what were they thinking. I ordered the fajitas, it was actually skirt steak meat cut in strips to look like fajita, no where near what real fajitas should look like or taste like.
