Stopped by when passing through town. Had 3 tacos (Al Pastor, Carnitas and Chicken) and an enchilada. All were quite excellent. The beef enchilada had very tender and tasty shredded beef. Best enchilada I have had in FOREVER! Yum! Will definitely make this a regular stop. Service was friendly and timely. The restaurant had just reopened after a long holiday (3 months)...and there were many people calling in to verify they were open again. It seems they were sorely missed! A hidden gem! Their food is amazing! Very flavorful and fresh. We got chicken tacos and a carne asada burrito. Tacos are big and pack a powerful punch of flavor. The burrito is also a powerhouse of flavor. I truly haven't had anything that good in a long time; even better than a lot of places I've been to in L.A. We will definitely stopping here anytime we pass through again. An additional bonus is that it's a family owned establishment. A solid no for me. I have always been curious to stop in this cute little town for some tacos and well, I finally got the chance to stop, I just wish it was good. The outside is a colorful red & green. You pull up into a gravel parking lot and walk right in. Before covid days, there is indoor seating to dine in. Now, there are a couple places to sit to wait for your food for take out. Everyone was really nice. From the young man at the register to the owners working near by, I was excited to get some good food passing through. As you can see in my picture, they are double shelled corn tortillas, carnitas, lettuce, hot sauce, cilantro & onion. I like a good hot sauce.. well, these tacos were a fail. They were bland and the meat had absolutely no flavor. All I could taste was their hot sauce, so I pulled off the lettuce that was covered in the hot sauce and that's when I discovered the old meat in the tacos. It was only after I took a bite of just the meat did I taste how sour it was. The color was pale as well (yes, I am a chef, I know what spoiled food looks and now tastes like). Horrible part...? I ate at least 1 full taco after realizing the reason it didn't taste good is because the meat was old. Curiosity killed this cat. read more

Tiny little spot with maybe 4 tables. Wife and I were the only gringos. Wonderful, real Mexican food served to our taste. The owner, cook, server spoke good English. I just told her "no mas picante" and she knew just how mild to cook for 75 year old gringos! Wife had the casa dia, absolutely stuffed with shredded beef and cheese and I had a massive carnitas flauta. Both were delicious and more than we could eat. Small, friendly establishment that serves extremely authentic Mexican food, made from scratch. We stopped in on our way home and I grabbed a taco for a snack. I saw the sign out front for tamales, and had the feeling they'd be homemade (they were). I bought 12 to heat for dinner later, tossing 6 in the freezer. I am SO glad I bought extras! I love handmade tamales in every style, and my husband said these were the best he's ever had (and we've tried oodles of places). The taco was 2 stacked soft corn tortillas, diced carne asada, onions, cilantro, and lettuce...totally like the street cart food in Baja (only safer and better meat quality). A perfect snack, and only $1.75. The best part, though, was the super friendly lady working. I didn't mind the small wait, just because she was SO friendly (she speaks very good english). Definitely check this place out if you're driving through Dorris! It was fabulous to come home, toss the tamales in a steamer basket, and throw together a quick salad for dinner (since it was like 4 when we drove through). We were driving through Dorris on our way to Oregon and decided to find a place to eat. We always go into Yelp for help. We read the reviews on El Ranchito and decided we would stop. When we drove up to the restaurant we were skeptical but Yelp has never steered us wrong. The restaurant was clean and the owners were friendly. The food was authentic Mexican and was DELICIOUS. Even the tortillas were homemade. My husband got the Huevos Ranchero and said it was the best he had ever eaten. He almost licked the plate. I had a chicken burrito with green sauce and it was wonderful. We will stop again on our way back and take some tamales home. read more

Don't skip out on this hidden gem. My boyfriend and I (without checking yelp reviews-- I know, how embarrassing) decided to grab some dinner here because I was getting hangry, it was getting late, and nothing else seemed to be open in Dorris. The family running the joint were extremely friendly. And so we ordered: shredded beef enchiladas plate, birria (goat) taco, carnitas taco, and pork tamale. And then we waited a bit. But right before we hit the impatient line, the food started coming. All were delicious, but the carnitas taco (OMG! so good) and the enchiladas plate were out of this world flavorful. I'm no chef or food expert, but they seemed to use unique spices and seasoning, or so it tasted. Yum! As you can imagine, we licked our plates clean. I'm hoping to make my way back to this little town real soon just so I can get my ElRanchito fix. read more
