They not only have incredible fresh cuts of meats & fresh seafood but they have the best prepared meals. Chicken Parmesan is my favorite- so far. Lol. Everything is freshly made from scratch and packed up ready for your fridge or freezer. They have single portions & family size portions. Everything is excellent. They also have a vary nice wine selection, fresh seasonal veggies, & fresh breads. I tried the Mexican cornbread the other day and craved it ever since. Don't forget the Caesar salad/ dressing. So, if you love to eat great food and thinking about nice butcher cut, fresh seafood, or heating up the fruits of their labor- you can't go wrong. One other thing I noticed- groceries are really expensive and sometimes getting home to discover you only have ingredients makes it hard to budget. I found that these great meals helped me trim a dollars off stocking the fridge.

La Unica is inside of a Latin American shopping plaza that features numerous other businesses such…read moreas a grocery store, meat market, laundry mat, tortilleria, clothing shop, etc. Like a lot of Mexican grocery stores, at La Unica you don't order your food from the person running the food counter but instead you do so at the grocery check out line. La Unica offers small tacos (more on that in a second), burritos, tortas, and the usual fare. Just looking for a quick afternoon snack, I opted for two of their small tacos which come on corn tortillas that are about half the size of standard corn tortillas. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, and the tacos were piled high and delicious. If you're particularly hungry I would suggest getting 3-4 of them though. I went with my usual standbys and ordered one taco each of carne asada and carnitas. The carnitas were a little greasy but still very satisfying as was the carne asada. The star of the show, however, is their red casera style hot sauce. This stuff will light you up and is exploding with the rich flavors of dried chilies which really come into their own once they blend with the flavors of your food. A teaspoon or two on your taco and you're in business!

But lucky me, The Spotted Trotter was out at the Grant Park Farmers Market that I attended recently and I got to check them out irl and support. (I told the gentleman who was at the table why I hadn't been in yet and he did explain that there was an easier way to enter. Ooops.) He was also so patient with me and explained the offerings and how I could use them all. Their menu board was calling my name and although I didn't need to buy anything, we love supporting local, yes? Yes. They had so many delicious options. Sausages, cheeses, all kinds of cured meats - just a carnivore's dream. I can only imagine how amazing the in-store experience is! I had no clue what to grab but ended up going for some calabrian pancetta that is crazyyy delicious. I can't wait to visit the brick and mortar and check out the rest of their options.
