The Margarita is not strong, but instead on the side of a lighter lemon-lime flavor. As any margarita, a salted or sugared rim always adds and improves in my opinion. The Chimichanga is perfectly fried with a light brown tint. I will say that the beef is not as salty as it could be, but the accompaniment of the white cheese and red sauce can boost the overall taste. The classic side of refried beans and a guacamole salad completes the plate. Though I've never been a fan of guacamole the salad still tastes good with the mozzarella, sour cream, and tomato. I liked the experience as a whole, though next time I think I'll try their sopapillas since I'm obsessed with them in general. read more

A standard go to for good comfort Mexican food. The chips and salsa are fresh and tasty, the service is always attentive and the food is very fresh. My equalizer test for any Mexican restaurant is the refried beans and the beans at El Potro are right up there. I LOVE the vegetable fajitas - perfectly cooked al dente. The margaritas are top notch - a perfect balance of tart lime, sweetness and tequila! read more

The food and service is outstanding!!!! My friends and I have been eating at the restaurant for many years! We have never been disappointed, you should go today!!!!! read more

El Potro - Hot Wings (24 pc) - Mexican Near Me - Orlando, Florida

I had seen El potro Several times while driving down Conroy road and decided to stop in for a quick lunch. I ordered the Guadalajara plate which is carne asada steak along with grilled shrimp. The food itself was good The shrimp were very good. Service was fast and prompt although I was one of only three people in there at the time so I would expect that to be the case. The bathrooms were clean and smelled good. All in all an average Mexican food visit, but I plan on attending again to see if the quality is there during a buisier time My rating system consists of a 3-star being exactly what I expected and neither good nor bad. A 4 means something was extra special whether it was service, food, staff, etc., and a 5 means I was blown away. A 2 star rating was disappointing with no offer to correct the experience and a 1-star rating was terrible read more

While in Orlando we stopped in on a Tuesday night around 5pm. We were seated right away and bought chips and salsa which were yummy!! Their bean dip was amazing as well!! They have a small bar and the interior was very nice. The waitress was very attentive and all though a little pricey we very much enjoyed the food. Everything was good to perfection!! Definitely would come back if in the area again. read more

I ordered a Burrito with little to-no filling. A soup that had a flavorless broth with bland shredded chicken. And some tacos that were sub-par at best. Very disappointed! read more

I will be honest, I have rarely been disappointed in the food and in fact I really do enjoy it. BUT.... I have ordered them twice in a 2 week period via DOORDASH. My total each time was over $50 and both times they forgot my Queso! On the second order, I couldn't locate the option for sour cream so I called the restaurant and asked if they would please give me just a small amount of sour cream and I was told very rudely that "It's an extra charge so No!" If you're not already aware, almost all restaurants increase their fees for DOORDASH orders so I'm sure with the increase I'm certain I covered that .50 extra charge. I am very disappointed in the lack of service and respect! I work at a very large hotel and I send a lot of people to El Potro but No More. And sadly, I will never order again. read more

A great Mexican restaurant! The food or really yummy and the prices are great, the service is attentive and quick. I would recommend this place it doesn't look like much from the outside, but it is family owned and good! read more

Ever since moving to Orlando from San Diego, we've been in search of an authentic Mexican restaurant. With El Porto, we've found just that. The small, crispy, crunchy, tortilla shells filled with a lot of thick, juicy, and flavorful shredded chicken was delicious. The tasty flavorful beans, and rice completed the meal. Did I forget to mention the warm, and crispy chips, with the mild, tangy salsa? Well, it was so good, I was dancing in my seat. read more

Service was friendly, prices are good, but food mediocre. Pico and salsa - not a fan of either; Porto fajitas - mostly good, great chicken and shrimp, mediocre carnitas, but tough and flavorless steak; Margarita - pretty good; Chorizo queso - not a fan (very very greasy, and didn't like the cheese) I wouldn't come back. I left disappointed. read more

Tourist Mexican. This is a restaurant that locals would never visit twice. It has a pleasant atmosphere, friendly service staff, warm not hot food, and relatively tasteless, out of a can or bag with no love in the food. Run away, run away. read more

We order from El Potro Winter Park (5 stars!!!!) all the time so I decided to order take out since this location was close by. This is the second time I have tried ordering from this location and both times it has been terrible. The food quality is horrible compared to the Winter Park location! I gave them a second chance thinking maybe it was just a bad day the first time. But now I have learned my lesson. The queso fundido y chorizo was cold, clumpy and WAY too greasy. I tried to save it by pouring out some of the grease and reheating it in the microwave but it was still terrible. I ended up throwing it away. This picture was taken after I tried to fix it. The portion size is a pint container but I took a small portion out to try to reheat. Will never order from this location again. However, try the El Potro Winter Park location because they are fabulous!!! read more

El Potro - Queso fundido y chorizo. I tried to make it better....still disgusting. - Mexican Near Me - Orlando, Florida

My daughter ordered a burrito with rice and beans with sour cream. It came out like soup! The amount of sour cream and refried beans made it soupy. We. Had to send it back, and we normally do not send food back but this was the exception. read more

The food is definitely 5-star! Ever since we discovered this place about 3 years ago, we've been coming here a few times a year, with family and friends who are visiting, and often to celebrate an occasion just the two of us. The food, color, and flavors are very authentic Mexican to me, having lived on the Mexican border in Laredo, Texas. Wife is vegetarian and El Potro has many vegetarian dishes. Walls and decor are like you'd find in Mexican neighborhoods Oh, and the prices are very reasonable! read more

Ordered the Pollo Loco, rice was dry and the chicken did not have much flavor. I had to add some of the table salsa to give it some flavor. The waitress was very nice, however was slow on getting the drinks to the table. The restaurant appeared to be clean, traditional decor. I wouldn't make a special trip back to eat here. read more

My BF loves a good buffet so when we found out about a Mexican food buffet we knew we had to try it out! All you can eat tacos?!? Sign us up! The place is tucked away in a small shopping plaza. When you walk in you are greater by traditional decor and the glorious smell of Mexican food! To start they had a happy hour 2-4-1 special on margaritas, ole! They offer traditional, mango & strawberry. The buffet offers, tacos, enchiladas, burritos, nachos, taqueria, all the toppings, salad bar & desserts. I liked being able to mix my favorites to have the ideal meal. Make sure to get the guacamole it's delicious! It's a really great deal! Service was excellent our sever made sure we always had water, refills & plenty of napkins! read more

I love El Potro. It's authentic Mexican food and the Classic Margaritas are incredible. I got the Nacho Supremes steak and my husband ordered tacos de pescado also as a king shrimp quesadilla togo. Visit and find out yourself how awesome this restaurant is! read more

Not too busy for a sat night around 7. Good service sizes and attentive staff. Food taste super authentic, they're heavy on cheese though. Also you can ask for things on the side for instance the wings and the buffalo sauce.... Ordered the toastquac nothing special just a tostada w guacamole kind of disappointing it sounded better than it looked. The michiladas are huge, and the meat quality for the beef and chicken taste fresh. The waitress said the fajita nachos (which are huge) come w guan and pico de gallo but she was wrong so I had to spruce them up myself with sides. Overall pretty good. read more

I love Mexican food and margaritas and have wanted to try El Porto for years. Needless to say I was underwhelmed by the atmosphere and food! The staff was very nice! The margarita was ok! I had a chicken enchilada and tamale which had no favor! I can't and don't eat spicy food so that is an unusual review for me. My husband had fajitas and felt the same way! On a positive note, there was a lot of the tasteless food! read more

I favor this place for lunch. Can't beat their lunch prices, just know that their lunch portions are smaller than their dinner menu. But even their all you can eat buffet is only $10. I spend that much at Chipotle for 1 burrito bowl, so why not get all you can eat at this place? You can assemble a burrito or taco, choose your meat, and then toppings. Dessert options don't fall behind. My favorite lunch item so far is their Chimichanga w avocado and side salad, it seems like the only option that comes with side salad instead of rice. The wait staff is always friendly to me and speak both English and Spanish. It's also a relief knowing that their salsa isn't spicy. read more

My FAVORITE Mexican restaurant on the West side of Orlando. Their quesadillas are so crunchy and they are honestly the best quesadilla I have ever had. The queso con jalepeno dip is to die for. Their toastadas are exception. My favorite has to be the Texas Rice. It is always cooked so well and offers a variety of impeccable flavors. Nothing better after a day down the street at Universal Studios. Skip Margaritaville and all the theme park restaurants and come here instead! The food was authentic and it came out quicker than I could have imagined. The margarita pitcher was a great value for the price and our server Emmie was great - ask for her! It was my wife's birthday so at the very end they even brought us free flan which was also great. :) read more

Had to specifically ask for service because our table wasn't checked on unless we asked someone to come over. Every other chip was stale, I ordered enchiladas supremas, my friend ordered nachos and we had the same issue. The corn tortillas are old you can tell by the taste. I ate maybe two bites and didn't want the rest it was pretty gross honestly. My friend also only ate a few bites and left most of the food on the plate. We told the waitress, still got charged in full for plates we didn't finish and the third girl in my group ordered a water, fished out what looked like a baby cockroach. I don't recommend this place because the service isn't that great and the food sucks. read more

Wanted Mexican for my birthday dinner close to Universal and not a big chain place. The yelp community rated this place 4 stars so I decided it was where I wanted to go. I went with my wife and my brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Emmy was a great server with a little bit "personality" on her. She took great care of us. I had the big burrito thing doused in cheese sauce. Was huge and tasty. Make sure you get the whole bite and not just the refried beans tho . My bro had the Diablo something and said its heat did not disappoint. My sister-in-law had the chili relleno. She was expecting more of a tex-mex style and got authentic Mex style. She traded for some of my wife's enchiladas. We all tasted the chili relleno and thought they were pretty good. And my wife's enchiladas combo was good too. They surprised me by slapping a sombrero on my head and presenting me with very good homemade flan and a chorus of "Happy Birthday." The place could use some "updating" to the decor. One of the reviews that hooked me said there were four of Orlando's Finest having dinner and when we arrived the were 2 doing the same. If you're in the Universal area I say give em a try. God is good! read more
