I order the Rico bowl all the time. I don't like corn, sour cream or pico in it, so I ask for them without it. Now, I don't expect them to add more rice, beans, or chicken in place. Usually it's fine, but today they jam packed it with rice and beans and sprinkled some chicken into the bowl. Was in ATX Thanksgiving week and tried this local mexican eater out on US-290 West in Manor, TX. Now I'm willing to give any place a shot like foodies do. Menu wasn't too impressive, so I stuck to my norm, chicken quesadilla. Was whole, but plate had total of eight slices, wasn't nothing extra but regular tomatoes chopped, and light lettuce togo with a sour cream pack. Sauces came as well, one red and green. My thoughts of this place for the first time...authentic style great, but sorry not sorry, I've had bigger quesadillas from a food truck than that. Meat was bare minimum inside. Shredded chicken small amount with cheese small amount. I'm use to thicker quesadillas than that for a 20.00 dollars or more price, hmmmm. Some food trucks have this place beat for a lower price, like 10.00 dollars less on quesadillas. And the vegetables are inside fully ready to eat. We came here on a Friday night through the drive through and it took a half hour from when we got there to when we got our food. There was a pretty long line and we ordered three menu items. We ordered the chicken gordita, chicken flautas, and chicken taco plate. I liked the chicken taco plate the best and the gordita was pretty good as well. The flautas were average. I'll definitely come back but just be aware the drive through is slow. Update: we came back when it was less busy and the service was so friendly. We got the chicken taco plate again and it was just as delicious this time. We also ordered their churros. One order is two large churros. They have this super yummy filling and are the perfect amount of crispy. They are the best churros I've ever had, they are so good! read more

Today I decided I would skip the tortilla and order a Chicken Rice Bowl. It's so filling that if you aren't that hungry you could save a portion of that for later. I ordered the half chicken and coke as usual. Chicken looked very different (small) (overcooked) so I took it to the counter and asked for an exchange in hopes I would get better prepared chicken. The cashier goes to find a manager to assist with my request and this little lady with a brown sweater comes out and say "yea what's wrong what do you want?" I explained to her it wasn't my first time here and would like to exchange for better quality. She told me no I could not exchange it and all of the chicken looked the same while opening another order of chicken. I agreed with her claim that they were all smaller today and over cooked and asked for a refund to go somewhere else. I was told I could not have a refund so I called the police. Police arrived, went inside to talk with manager, and came back within 20 seconds. Per the manager I could not be issued a refund because the food was eaten, which it was NOT. It used to be a time when I enjoyed going here to get a nice juicy bird with great sides. A complete meal for two for under $15! Wow. Such great value. It was an easy decision when my wife and I needed a quick dinner. Sadly, those days are gone. Now you're likely to get a dry, burnt chicken with unseasoned and sad rice, overcooked beans, dry inedible tortillas. Even the salsa has gotten worse. It just tastes like people aren't really caring. I also ordered a baked potato for the wife and it was essentially almost raw in the center. She had to eat around it to complete her meal. To boot, the drive thru line is always backed up. The girls working it aren't really in a rush to keep the line moving. It took me (I am not joking or exaggerating) 38 mins to get through the line. They don't really have a system to expedite and by the time I realized the timeline, I was in too deep and had to keep on waiting. Well it's just been a good run but I don't think I'll be coming back. Plenty of other chicken places in town, I'll just have to plan it and make sure I pick one up on my way home. Probably closer to 3 1/2 stars, but I'm being a bit snarky and rounding down. (Yelp: We still need the 1/2 star option!) Stopped in here for an early dinner on my way out to a meeting in Bastrop on Tuesday. After reading their menu and seeing the pictures online and in person, I was craving the carne asada plate. The young lady behind the counter was friendly, but I had to get her to change the sides. The menu says a choice of sides, but the staff seem to default to rice and beans unless you tell them otherwise. I winced slightly as my fast food bill for the carne asada and a large drink came out to a little over $15. While waiting for my order, I went to get iced tea. They were out. Not the end of the world, but surprising. The salsa bar had some good options on it, but none of them were labeled and the area could've used some cleaning and organization. I then got my carne asada plate, which didn't look at all like the menu and website photos. The strips of beef were a lot thinner. And the grilled onion that's shown as a big onion that's been grilled and served on the side turned out to be barely grilled onions that were placed on the skillet with the meat. So, in other words, I got a fajita plate. Unlike most places fajita plates, though, I didn't get the huge variety of sides and accompaniments like cheese (which I'd have appreciated), guacamole, sour cream, or pico de gallo (which might've been on the salsa bar). The food itself was good. The beef was very good and I loved the corn tortillas that I got. The rice is amazingly good. No random veggie bits in the rice. Just plain Mexican/Spanish rice with good seasoning. The fries (which I got as a substitute for the beans) were also good. And honestly, I left food on the plate. There was that much food. It's enough for leftovers for someone who occasionally eats like a pig. And it's easily shareable between two people with slightly below average appetites. Honestly, I'd go back. The burger was dry and the street tacos where too, the tacos had handfuls of onions and were bland. The food here is great, but be prepared to wait. The last 2 times I have ordered once in the drive through and once by walking up to the counter inside, and it has taken way longer than I expected for a couple of tortas. The drive through takes forever since some of the food items are made to order, and you have to wait for all the cars ahead of you to get their food made before you can even get up to the place to make your order. This is NOT fast food, which is why it is so tasty. This time, I ordered online so I could stop quickly on my way home. However, the dining room was closed due to lack of staff and there were 15 cars in the drive through. This meant I had to wait 30 minutes to pick up food in the drive through that was already prepared and that I had already paid for online. My husband and I made a special trip to Manor to eat at El Pollo. Hubby was craving it. We used to eat there at least once a week. The dark meat, rice and beans were really good. The breast was dry and tough. Not sure what is up with the white meat of chicken these days but it is a common problem. The food was good as always. Sadly the restaurant was very dirty. The dining area was awful, all tables were dirty. The soda area was a mess. Floors dirty and the ladies bathroom didn't look like it had been cleaned in several days. So, let me start by saying the food here is amazing, as far as flavor goes. I should also say that most of the time, I feel as though I'm getting a decent amount of food for the money. Unfortunately, today was not one of those days...I ordered the 2 piece meal and was stunned when I opened the box to find my chicken leg was the size of a pigeon leg. I understand that a leg is not the largest piece on a chicken, but judge for yourself. I've attached a picture, with a quarter for size reference. This place is a new find for me I started going to the one in Austin a few months ago but we moved to Manor and this place is so close we been here a month and I think we gone to this place like 5 or times now! The chicken is so moist and delicious. they give you choice of tortillas I love the beans and rice. Loving the flavored waters reminded me of my home back in San Jose CA. I usually don't rate places on my first visit but this place poses a health risk to the public! The food came to me lukewarm! Did you hear me? LUKE WARM... I order through the drive-thru trying to get something a little healthier than burgers or fried fast food. When I opened the bag in the car a bug flew out of the bag! red flag the food individually wrapped. The plate I ordered was the dark meat (A1, I think) and it came with charro beans and rice and tortillas and a piña agua Fresca. The best thing out of the whole deal was the agua Fresca and it was watered down. There was also 2 containers of green sauce in the bag along with napkins and cutlery. Instead of dark meat I got a dried up wing and breast that looked and tasted like it had been sitting under the warmer all day. The beans and rice were in separate containers and they smelled good. I tasted them and they were ok. I tasted 1 spoon for the sake of this review. The corn tortillas were still pale and looked like they hadn't seen any heat at all. I didn't taste the green sauce. All I got out of this visit was to warn the public otherwise I wasted my money. I threw this stuff in the trash. It would be different if they were super busy but I was the only car in the drive thru when I pulled up. I needed something quick so I could get stuff done when I got home. Welp!! That didn't happen. We ordered a Whole Chicken meal and a Carne Asada meal. While parts of the meals were good, overall it was just mediocre in my opinion. The chicken is good, but to me it's not much better than a rotisserie chicken you can get from the grocery store for $5 or $6. It has some grilled flavor, but isn't particularly juicy. The seasoning is good, but not really unique. I also think they could use more of it. The onions that come with the chicken are really good. The carne asada was overcooked and pretty dry. The charro beans were very flavorful and possibly my favorite part of the meal. Rice, tortillas, salsas, and pico de gallo were all forgettable. Service was good and our order came out fast. I may go to El Pollo Rico again one day to try some of their other menu offerings. read more

They have the absolute worst customer service at their Manor location. We are never treated with respect by their rude employees. Sucks because the food is great, but the experience is awful. Not to mention that their online ordering was down and they refused to take our order over the phone for carryout. We come here very often , once a week. But for the past few weeks we've been given a " we are closing we only have chicken" @ 9:30. They close at 10. So I asked out of curiosity " If you close at 10 why don't you have the full menu available at 9:30?" The response " we close the kitchen at 9:30 well because we want to clean and go home to be with our families " My jaw dropped. Why don't they just close at 9:30 then? My little brother came into town to help me with some things related to my wife passing away. As a way to thank him in a small way for taking his time to drive from San Antonio to Manor I took him to lunch at El Pollo Rico. BIG MISTAKE! He ordered a nacho plate that looked like it exploded in the kitchen and they threw it on the tray and brought it to us. I ordered a Carne Guisada plate. When my food came I have some sliced skirt steak which was very dry. There was no sauce at all. Just cliced skirt steak. There was also a small whole cooked onion. Seriously. Someone heated up an onion and stuck it on the plate. There was also a diced tomato on the plate The whole meal not only looked horrible it tasted as bad as it looked. I did take the time to ask the cashier if she was sure I got the right order and she confirmed I was served what they called the Carne Guisada plate.
