Drinks were great. But besides that lackluster service, waiting absurd times, flavor of food is always good but mofongo de ropa vieja came cold. Most platanals do a good job, im sure this was an isolated incident but service was unacceptable.

My husband and I had lunch here shortly after arriving to Puerto Rico. Our food was beautiful, delicious, and filling. Our drinks were potent. The service was excellent.

Food was good. The carne frita (carnitas) was delicious. The bistec Milanesa was alright. Looked like country fried steak topped with melted cheese and some red sauce. I wouldn't order it again but definitely the carne frita. Got the arroz habichuelas which is plain white rice with a bean like soup. I should have ordered it with arroz apastelado. Service...was quick but couldn't really understand the waitress taking our order. She spoke soo fast.

El Platanal Piñones is a great place to go for delicious and flavorful food in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. I really like the flavor of everything and how it is prepared. The staff here is very welcoming and makes sure that you have a good meal. Well worth the visit.

    Mojito! Delicious.

So good. The service was great. The atmosphere is chill and feels like family. The food was great. We had the snapper. I would come here again.

To start, I had a chicken and cheese empanada, and a mango mojito. For the entree I had fried pork chops, with Trifongo (mixture of green plantain, yucca and sweet plantain), rice and beans, and tostones. Since I was staying at a hostel, I ordered enough to have leftovers for the next day. This place became more crowded as the early evening came on. I arrived around 6pm. By the time I left at 7:30, it was packed. There is an open grille at the entrance of the restaurant so you can watch them grilling meats. Relaxed and casual vibes. This is an after the beach, popular restaurant. Food was pretty good. Service was solid, nothing over the top. I would return.

This one in particular was just a gut feeling, and it left my gut very HAPPY! This place was not busy when we arrived but by the time we left it was hopping! The service at first was a little questionable due to my limited spanish, but we found a way to communicate effectively and ended up ordering a bunch of different items and a couple of drinks. The place is an open walled restaurant right off the road and the view is ever changing. There is no doubt this is authentic Puerto Rican fare. We were watching them prepare these items over open flames and open wood fired grills. Overall the service was excellent even with language barriers! All of the food we tried from fresh shrimp, to candied papaya and barbeque chicken from the grill. Everything was delicious. Super fresh and very tasty food that I wish we found on the first day -instead of on the last day! The prices and value are amazing! If you go to San Juan - Go here first! Day or Night - these places are making amazing local food!

The restaurant is spacious with colorful and expressive art all over the walls. You're hearing Latin music in the background there's a large bar in the left corner. The menu is big, there's so much that you would want to try so go with the big party. Your offered three different styles of plant proteins when you order your traditional dish. We had the Pasteles, Mofongo, ALcapurria and Sorullitos. Everything came out hot and fresh. The Mofongo was out of this world. And I make Mofongo. The Alcapurria was delicious of Smith's first time having it. The portions are large enough to share. Or have leftovers. You are so lucky to meet the owner. The super friendly gentleman he gave us the backstory of why he started this restaurant. Changing his diet helped him recover from cancer. And it was about the way he ate. So he wanted to share this opportunity with meat eaters. So the whole goal of his restaurant is vegan food for meat eater so they can see that they are not missing anything. The owner also is a famous DJ. He has a talk show radio. And he's been doing it since the 70s. It was a lovely experience my Bestie found this restaurant for me. Because I'm a vegan/sometimes pescatarian. I don't get to try all the foods. It was such a lovely experience.
