As you walk east on Lázaro Cárdenas toward the Municipal market, Frutas Baca will be the first greengrocer you will encounter on the right at the corner of Lázaro Cárdenas and Camachin. It can be confusing as there are three or four greengrocers in the immediate area. Frutas Baca, along with all the other greengrocers are bustling places as many restaurants, locals and tourists alike are vying for various fresh produce items. Walking through Frutas Baca left me a bit confused since there really are no prices marked on any of the products (unlike some of the other greengrocers nearby). I was worried about getting gringo prices since nothing was marked with a price. However, while browsing, we ended up talking to a nice lady who was buying several fruit and vegetable items. She assured us that all the prices were very competitive with the other nearby greengrocers, and they actually give a receipt. She also explained that she likes to support Frutas Baca as it is a family owned business. I asked her where the avocados were located and she explained that Baca keeps them behind the counter to protect them from all the squeezing that can happen by people trying to pick out their own avocados. She told us to simply tell the cashier that you want an avocado "por hoy or para mañana" (for today or for tomorrow) and they will pick out what you need. We bought lettuce, mangos, bananas, cucumbers, carrots, limes and avocados for a total of 91.50 pesos (~usd $4.95). As we waited in line for the cashier a guy behind us mentioned Bacas also makes fresh squeezed juice to order. We shopped here several times during our week-long PV vacation. About half the time we received a printed receipt, so they are somewhat inconsistent on that score. Overall this is a great market to drop in and pick up fresh produce (they also have flour tortillas and a big basket of baguettes and bread loaves - I assume for the benefit of the tourist clientele).

Pescaderia La Corbeteña - The kilo of tuna we picked up. Made ceviche (delicious!) and tuna steaks in mole verde. So fresh.

If you're squeamish about fish smell or the idea of flies, you might want to send your husband/friend/manservant here to purchase your fish for you. However while it looks a lot more rustic than your average US fish market, it's not that bad. We scored some excellent seabass and a fat kilo of tuna here for what I'd consider to be dirt cheap. And I'm assuming I paid gringo-price. The guys were helpful, spoke enough english to get me what I needed, and when I asked for tuna, they pulled a huge whole tuna out of the cooler, hacked off a kilo, and handed it to me. See photos. It was a thing of beauty. The fish sections in the supermercados around here suck. Come to this Pescaderia and get the fresh, tasty stuff instead. Support the little guy.

Fish, other seafoods, and shellfish, arrive at the shop in the early-mornings (weekdays, and Saturday), and once unpacked, are set up for sale rather quickly by the staff. My favourite time to shop there is between 7-9am, when the products are out for sale, and the selections and freshness the best. For me, it's been primarily a place to shop for shrimp. I find their selections are often 'the' best in the area -- allowing me to choose sizes graded from small to large, and at times, very large, with heads still attached. For us, I'm most often seeking "mediums" for our our cooking, but once in a while, the "small'' are great for cocktails, to use in sandwiches, stir-fries, and the like, and the "large" or "very large" can make some yummy dinner treats. The shrimp are priced by the kilo, and the friendly and accommodating staff will always provide you with as much or little as you wish. I like this little pescaderia, have been shopping there for several years, and have never had a problem with the quality of products purchased.

They have an ever changing tasting menu that caters to the season in which it is in. None of the items are bad. If the weather is nice I highly recommend sitting outside along the river. It's incredibly romantic. Please visit this restaurant if you are reading this. You won't regret it!

Not many people talk about their brunch, but they should. It is easily one of the best hidden gems in Puerto Vallarta. Every dish is beautiful, creative, and full of flavor. From the fresh bread and pastries to the main plates, everything feels intentional and thoughtfully prepared. You can tell the same care and creativity that goes into their dinner menu shows up at brunch too. The presentation is stunning, and the flavors are just as impressive. What really sets brunch here apart is the value. For the quality, the experience, and the level of cooking, it is an amazing deal. It feels like a high end experience without feeling stuffy or overpriced. It is the kind of place you want to linger, enjoy the view, and take your time. If you already love Tintoque for dinner, you owe it to yourself to try brunch. And if you have never been, brunch is the perfect introduction. It is truly one of the best brunch experiences in Puerto Vallarta and we keep coming back for more.
