We were here the other day and today we came back here again for another meal. This time we ordered the crispy tacos and the jamaica juice. We like the crispy tacos more than the regular soft tacos since the soft tacos tend to get soggy after a while. The shredded beef was a bit under seasoned but tasted ok after adding a little sauce and a squeeze of lime. Service is ok and kinda slow sometimes. Overall a great place for birria tacos in PV.

If you're looking for crispy fried hard shell tacos, then look no further. I will say though that their birria doesn't really taste like your usual birria. All of the birria tacos I'm used to have that flavor with lots of spices. These just tasted like shredded beef which was still good but not what I was expecting. They do have a lot of tables and chairs which is rare for street food vendors. Service is alright, they're not super friendly like other places in PV but that's fine I guess.

I had really high expectations for Birria Chanfay as not only were tourists recommending this spot, but so were the locals. I thought that the birria tacos were under seasoned and just tasted like shredded beef. I definitely had to add a lot of salsa and chili oil in order to enjoy it more. I appreciated that they provided complementary consume but I thought that the tomato flavor was a little overpowering. Apparently birria taco is a dish that the local Mexicans like to have for breakfast, which may be the reason why it was on the lighter seasoned side. Where I come from, birria tacos are always strongly seasoned, rich, fatty and oily. At Birria Chanfay, I almost thought that the tacos tasted healthy. Maybe this is what birria tacos is supposed to be like relative to how it's done in New York, but it definitely was not what I expected my birria experience in Mexico to be like.

Crispy tacos! They may not look like much, but the flavors were everything.

This place was an absolute gem to find. On a recent trip to Puerto Vallarta, I spotted what looked like just a food cart on the street but with nearby seating. I noticed the folks standing around while eating and chatting, which is a typical thing to see at food carts, but the difference was that there were a couple of servers walking around. I didnt actually get this until I finally went back to eat. We left that day, but after searching for a couple of days to find this spot again, I realized that they were only open for lunch. Keep that in mind. I finally got to come back for lunch on our last day. For the most part, they spoke Spanish, but there was one server who spoke English. So, don't be afraid of this truly authentic joint. I sat down and ordered two crispy tacos with a cup of the consomé (do not leave without drinking this). The tacos were warm, crispy, and cheesy. I ordered one with chicken and one with pork, which was the better of the two. The consomé was savory and full of flavor. I used some of the sauces, but they really weren't necessary. I loved them so much that even though my partner did not want to come, I just had to bring some back for him. I also bought more consomé, but that didn't make it back. Shhh... don't tell him. I also loved this so much that I made it for dinner the following weekend. So, he still got to try it.

This was one of the stops on the Vallarta Eats Food Tour, which turned out to be my favorite. ATMOSPHERE: The make-shift restaurant was situated in a courtyard fronting a building. You don't come here for the ambiance, just authentic tacos. A take away stand greets you with a flat top just behind that where the tortillas were being grilled. Our group of eight squeezed together on a few tables and a mishmash of chairs where sauces and toppings were laid out. BEVERAGE: Guava Juice I've never seen white guava juice, just the pink stuff we have in Hawaii. Despite the color difference, the taste was the same. FOOD: Birria Pork Tacos Because we were on tour, we had the chance to sample the delicious birria (stew broth) that their pork is cooked in. The fiery red liquid was full of deep, savory flavors. We had a soft shell and crunchy taco with the same fillings with pork and cheese. Both were amazingly tasty but the crunchy version won me over. TIP: If you're adventurous, they also served a taco filled with chopped up organs that consisted of intestines, hearts and liver. One was brought out but I happily declined, LOL. OVERALL: Obviously good as locals were constantly lining up for takeout. We ran out of eating time so we'll hit them up again in 2019.

Easily best birria tacos I've ever had. We've been looking for good tacos around the area and I think this one takes the cake. We tried the other places, they're good too, but the birria here is just so fire. When you go here just straight up order the crispy birria taco and a cup of consume. The soft shell is good too but when you pour more consume the taco gets soggy. When I took my first bite, it just all the right spots! Also when it comes to the drinks, they have guava juice that's good too. So definitely check that out. Overall, we'll definitely go back here when we visit puerto vallarta again!

At Birria Chanfay you get the fried Birria Tacos. The Beef is slow cooked and the tacos are brushed with the beef juice for more flavor. This street vendor provides tables and chairs in his driveway. They also serve hibiscus tea. I typed in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco but Yelp changed it to Mexico D.F. I can tell you this place is in Old Town Jalisco.

One of our favorite street vendors is Birria Chanfay in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico. Discovered them when we took a food tour of the city with Vallarta Eats. Their Birria Taco Dorado is awesome! Don't take my word for it. Go try them for yourself. Cheap street food where you will find plenty of locals. Enjoy!!

I went on a taco tour and found this place to be one of the best from 8 tacos I tried on this day. Yes, I tried 8 amazingly popular local favorites and this was one of the most memorable one! Get one crispy and one with tortilla. Dip, drink or pour the broth-so rich and flavorful! So glad I found this place! Would totally come back every time I visit PV!
