After 3+ hours of walking, my dogs were barking, and the breakfast pastry was wearing off. Time for a cerveza and some grub. I originally chose the place across the wat (something & tapas) when they told me they had wifi. Please note - the only reason I really care is because without internet, I have no idea what I'm ordeing. After a 10 minute wait in the lovely outdoor seating, I moved on. Across the intersection was this place - looking ike it had been here since the beginning of time, and the waiters probably too. They are efficient and a little bit gruff - but I kind of like that. I had been wanting to try the bacadillos calamares everyone talks about... And seeing that was there specialty... no translation needed! A calamari sandwhich, a beer and a water. Sadly it was a bottled water (which cost as much as the beer). I don't order fancy water - I think he may have tried to let me know when he asked which one - beer or water, I said both. Tap is almost always fine with me. Mostly spaniards, a few english guys, some large parties (lots fo tables outside, I didn't go in). Of course once I ordered, a downfall ensued! But being from Portland, this doesnt; bother me, I simply move my table under the covering.
I love the location, the old feel and even the waiters - who are of the older and very professional variety. Sadly, the calamari itself was not great. t was fried calamari on bread. No sauce. Did he ask if I wanted sauce? Maybe but he had to know I didnt understand. Shouldt there be SOME sort of dressing/mayo/anything on the bread? Couldnt he have offered it on the side? And while cooked quite perfectly, it needed salt, and pepper, and sauce (did I say that already?). Ithought about asking but didn't know how and figured I;d be ok. But after a bite of two, I really lost interest and made my way back to home (my feet thank me). read more
