My Argentinian friend has been speaking highly of this place and wanted to bring me here to try the food. I am so glad he did. The food was really delicious. El Patio, located in Rockville is a family owned restaurant that serves traditional home-style meals from Argentina in a casual dining atmosphere. With their authentic Argentinian recopies, it gives diners a piece of Argentina in Rockville. One of the selling points for this restaurant is that it is a combination style restaurant( bakery, restaurant and packaged goods from Argentina. They have a wonderful selection of Argentinian wines. On Wednesday they have offer specials on bottles of wine for dining in and purchase. The food was absolutely delicious, we tried a variety of things. We started with the baked empanadas( chicken and beef). They were filling actually, nice and full of meat and flavorful. We also tried the Argentinean sausage sandwich. The sandwich came on this nice toasted bread. For dinner I had the Tira de Asado a la Parrilla( grilled beef short ribs). All the platters come with two sides. I got a salad and their french fries. OMG they have they best fries. Nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I didnt even use ketchup, that is how tasty they were. The salad was just a regular garden salad but the ingredients were so fresh, I didnt need any dressing. Their desserts are really good to, we got flan and the rogel. Received this recommendation from an Argentinian friend. Coming from him, I was looking forward to its authenticity. I've never had Argentinian food before, so I didn't know what to expect. During my first visit, my friend and I finished a 9.5 mi hike at Annapolis Rock and built up an appetite. We ordered one of the most popular meat dishes on the menu. I especially loved the blood sausage and could have ordered an entire plate of the blood sausage alone!!! The parillada came with two sides, so I opted for vegetables and rice/bread to balance out the meal. I've now visited twice thus far and the ordered same thing on the menu because I loved it so much. This is the kind of place that is family-friendly, has great portions, and can enjoy your food in a relaxed environment. Delicious Argentinian Sausage! Last Saturday I tried Argentinian food for the first time. Also, first time at this restaurant. My friend/I had wonderful time. She mentioned dining here years ago. This Argentinean restaurant is a gem hidden in a pretty dead strip mall next to a furniture store. We ordered a bunch of things: carne salteada, empenada, quiche, wine and the kids got pizzettes ( mini pizzas). Server was super attentive and asked for a google review after we left. Instead hes getting a yelp review. The steak was a little over cooked but very well marinated and came with a nice side of chimichurri. We got ham and cheese quiche and empenadas both fantastic. Thete was a nice kids menu but our kids opted for pizza instead. My wife enjoyed her cup of malbec. The meal was great but the deserts were the best part, we got bread pudding and a chocolate cookie cake. read more

I have been here quite a few times. The empanadas are the best. However, I invited a friend to have steak and it was the worst I have ever had. I was embarrassed because she was losing forward to eating meat, and couldn't even have half of it. The cut was full of tendons and fat; it had no flavor. The Malbec was hot. The food was great. The service and server were great. This restaurant moved from its original location near Rockville Pike to Loehmann's Plaza a few years ago. Its now larger. The grilled tilapia, and grilled chicken were very good - I appreciated the opportunity to choose white vs dark meat - I prefer dark which tend to have more taste and is always more moist. However, the hostess, Laura, needs training in customer service - neither pleasant nor accommodating. Even though the restaurant was half empty (Sunday night) at the time, she sat us at a small table for 2. We politely asked to be seated at a larger table, and she refused - there were at least 7 or 8 tables for 4 empty and several larger table that were empty. When we left - there were even more. When I mentioned this to Laura, she made a "face" and didn't respond. We will return, because the food was excellent and reasonable, but I'll mention this to a manager next time. I pay money, tip well, and should be accommodated. Of course, if they were crowded, and tables were limited, I would have understood perfectly. read more

Highly disappointed. My brothers and sisters love this place so obviously I was eager to try it. As soon as I walked in I could truly smell unwanted critters. That smell has stayed with me since I was I kid. The entire place looked so dingy and outdated. Ufff! The bathroom was horrible and dirty 2 stalls one was clogged and the handicap one the door did not close not locked but close. I had my daughter stand outside for me. I did not order a thing. So disappointing. Have always enjoyed this restaurant .... until last night's visit. Went with a friend- we both ordered medium rare rib eye steaks. The steaks literally arrived in minutes-- raising a red flag that they were precooked. Steaks were well beyond well cooked, shoe-sole tough, tasteless and full of rind. Terrrible. Sold me spoiled product and refused to make it right. Purchased 5 jars of dulche de leche, el patio brand. Been buying them for years! I know exactly what they taste like! But this batch...They were bad. Brought them back to the store. I did not have my receipt (i dont usually keep or even ask for receipts for food). Asked to put it towards my purchase, I did not even ask for my money back! The lady named Sandra refused. She said no returns without receipt. This is the worst service. The restaurant is completely unprofessional. It took the servers 5 minutes to greet us with the restaurant 3/4 empty. We sat for OVER 20 minutes with no servers approaching us. This is all happening while 6 servers were laughing behind the bar. We walked out and went to Matchbox. Arrived during lunch. Service was okay, but I think our server was mainly shy. Most of the party got another drink on top of water, but otherwise the empty water glasses rarely got filled up. There was no béchamel sauce for the Canelones de Espinaca o de Carne, so an alternative sauce was provided. It was good but made the dish saltier than expected. I would recommend the pollo empanada, however the Espinaca empanada did not have much filling. We ordered 2 grilled vegetable kabobs to try and there were not good and I wouldn't recommend. There was an extreme lack of seasoning on them and the broccoli also tasted burnt. We also couldnt tell the difference between the small and large portion. read more

I've been coming to this place for almost 10 years, and sad to say it's gone downhill in terms of quality and service. My most recent visit featured a chicken soup and parrillada Buenos Aires. The chicken soup is the reason why this is a 3-star review and not 2-star. Flavorful, hearty, and lots of chunky chicken and vegetables. As far as the parrillada, the meat (NY Strip, short ribs, skirt steak) was ordered medium well, and it came completely over cooked and dry. It also tasted very bland. Thankfully the chimichurri is still good and added flavor. Unfortunately the service wasn't any better. Upon walking in, on several occasions, the host stand tends to be empty, even though the restaurant is only about 30% full, and it's a few minutes wait until someone shows up to seat you, which was the case this time. The irony is that often times there several staff towards the back of the restaurant/bar area, congregating, mingling, eating, doing menial tasks, etc. while it is evident that customers are waiting to get seated, need service, etc. My waiter checked up on me just once during my meal. When I was finishing up my food, with some food still on the plate, another staff came by and said "I'll take your plates now", without asking if she could or if I was done. To top it off, I waited several minutes for my check in plain view of my server while I watched her eat her dinner and count tips. I've been a frequent customer because there are not many Argentinian options in the immediate area. Not sure if after today's visit I'll go back again. read more

Twice I was visiting family in North Bethesda and we went to El Patio. The Empanada's are soooooo good and we end up buying more then we can eat at one time and take them home. I wish OHIO has El Patio close but it's always a treat during my visits. I'll be dining there next week during my visit. read more

First time trying this restaurant and it was a good experience for us. I ordered the carne salteada with mashed potatoes, it was delicious! The portions are huge it makes you full fast. My husband and father in law ordered a parillada to share & they seemed to enjoy it. We also ordered some empanadas just to try. My family recommended this restaurant for empanadas and other treats. We opted to get it to go and enjoyed the sausage sandwich and alfajores cookies. The beef empanadas were really good, too. I would enjoy coming back and eating on the outdoor patio when the weather is warmer out. read more

I'm a big fan of beef; what's not to like? I don't bother with the "nasty" bits but steaks, ribs and great cuts are where it's at. This is probably one of those hidden gems you hear about but rarely see. El Patio is an Argentine restaurant; as such they are quite proud (justifiably) of the beef dishes on their menu. I typically order the Vacio a la Parilla which is their grilled flank steak. Ordinarily, flank can be kind of tough, but flavorful- not so here. It is tender, juicy and loaded with all that good charcoal flavor you'd expect from a grill; usually served with a carb of some sort (you can choose from fries, sweet potato fries, rice, potato salad, mashed or yucca) and a veggie option (the grilled veggie skewers are a great accompaniment) and that's the basic setup. I've had more than a few of their dishes but would suggest trying the Tira de Asado (grilled short ribs)- some of the best I've ever eaten. Toss on some of their signature chimichurri sauce (green is mild, red is slightly spicy) and you're only lacking one thing- something to drink. Like most Argentinian spots, if they're about the beef, they're also going to be about their wine, specifically their Malbec. It is an Argentinian type of wine, and while I'm not a wine connoisseur, I am partial to reds (they go amazingly well with beef dishes of most types) and even the sub $10 bottles hold up well to a meal like this. They've got racks of bottles across from the bar which is situated toward the back of the restaurant. Lots to choose from, and the bar is full service so if you're up for a cocktail, they can set you to rights. I apologize for the brevity of this review- it is LONG overdue as I've been coming to this place for a few years now and have never had a bad experience. Of late I've been ordering online and picking it up to go so that my wife can enjoy it with me! It is also one of the cheapest places to eat and still eat well. They have a couple of menu items called Parrillada Buenos Aires and Parrillada Para Dos (which means grill for two) - I've not had occasion to try either one because i'm usually running solo when I go there, but I'm dying to try both! Both dishes feature a number of their signature cuts of meat, including sausages and in one case, sweetbreads! I don't really know what those are so I probably won't got for the dish that features that one, but they both include a good portion of meats- you can't really go wrong with that! As such, they don't have a large number of options for those who do not indulge in appetites carnivorous- you could cobble together a tasty meal but there aren't many entrees that feature all veg. But who goes to a restaurant that features beef in so many ways for vegetables? YMMV. read more

Most of us in the group thought that our main courses were just okay (be sure to steer clear of the grilled vegetables, they were not tasty), but overall it was a positive experience. This is my first visit to this Argentinian restaurant. I noticed it has low ratings in Yelp, but I decided to try it because I like argentinian food. Remember Argentinians are know for cooking great steaks or beef. If you are vegetarian or seafood lover, My advice to you is this is not the place for you. The food was delicious. Our table ordered the Buenos Aires parrillada. This includes beef and morcilla ( Blood sausage). It was enough to feed 3 people not 2 as They advertise. Also, The churrasco was very tasty and tender. My other family member ordered a steak sandwich that was delicious, however, They forgot to bring her the fries even after we asked our server several times. This is one of the reasons I am giving them 3 stars. The other reason I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars is that I asked for Quilmes (Argentinian beer) and Aguila ( Colombian beer) and they were out of stock....no bueno :(. Overall I rate the food at 5 stars and the short comings that I mentioned above 2. I will come back on a weekday when is less busy and hopefully it would be a better experience. read more

I keep coming to this place from Washington and hoping it will get better. Upon writing this review it still hasn't. I don't know who's in the kitchen but it's NOT an Argentine or Uruguayan. My chinchulines were like chewing gum. The empanadas had no flavour. My asado de tira was not too bad. My side order of fries was the best thing.
