I was told to give this place a try and that it was the best Mexican food in NoVa. I was skeptical, as I have been to many Mexican restaurants in the area, but must say that the recommendation was accurate. I had shredded beef tacos and rice and was blown away at the portion. I tried a competitor down the street and their tacos were tiny in comparison. The tacos here tasted amazing and I was beyond full afterwards. The service was stellar even though the place was very crowded. I was really impressed with the experience and overall vibe inside. I've been eying this place for several months and was finally in the area to give it a try. What attracted me to them was they are one of two restaurants that have California burritos, and most importantly they have Jalisco style tacos. To the average American taco consumer, one might not be able to differentiate between different tacos. Jalisco tacos are smaller. The shell is at most 3.5 inches. The tortilla is always corn, and is lightly grilled, then the cook will take a fist full of meat, throws it on the tortilla then sprinkles onion and cilantro. They are the perfect size, but if you are like me will mindlessly eat them, El Paso offers them in packs of 20, 30, and 50. Today I was with my wife so I only ate 10 (5 al pastor and 5 carne asada). My wife got a chimichanga lunch and upgraded the meat to carne asada. To me the tacos are pretty good for the DMV. I like the flavor of taco meat to be robust and these weren't quite there for me. Fortunately they give grilled onions, jalapeño, radish and limes as sides. They also give red and green salsa. I am the type to prefer green salsa, but the red salsa stole the show today. I doused my tacos in that red goodness and it made me so happy. I will definitely come back to try some other dishes. Their menu is huge. The portions here are too big, but depending on who you are, that might not bother you. I will say the food is delicious and I saved a good amount of my meal for leftovers, which I enjoyed the next day. This place seems to be doing a lot of take out business, U Pick-up & delivery now. We ate outdoors. The outdoor view wasn't great before and the new-ish Lidl across the street is the main thing to see now. I sat with my back to the Lidl trying to envision being somewhere else, ha-ha. COVID 19 safety practices is evident in all they do. However, the tiny women's restroom situation in beyond fixing. Us ladies just need to be extra polite toward each other, if more than 1 of us must use that facility together. I would wait outside the door, if I could. Lucky for me, the other person in the RR with me stayed in the stall until I left. The food was better pre-COVID, methinks. My spouse rated her Chicken Fajita a 4/5. I rate my Beef Chimichanga a 3/5. The salsa was a bust, 1/5. It tasted like it was poured out a cheap can of something. We asked for hot sauce to add and that sort of masked the bland tomato taste. The Chimichanga had plenty of tasty beef but I peeled all the very pasty dough covering off and left it. The Margarita 5/5. I would still go again though. I'm really not sure where to begin. Hands down, this was the best Mexican food I've had on the east coast. The smell from the parking lot was inviting. Atmosphere was cozy and service was impeccable. Salsa was perfect. The traditional margarita came with lime and orange wedges, which combined to make it slightly sweeter than normal and now I prefer it that way. My fried beef chimichangas were mouth-watering and were topped with a heaping portion of guac, sour cream, and salad. Refried beans had small chunks of beans and were excellent. El Paso is a surprise in Central Springfield. Unprepossessing on Commerce Street, it has a really good array of classic Mexican dishes. The portions are generous, too. I like the daily specials. These include Street Tacos on Tuesday and Gringo Tacos on Thursday. The lunch size Fajitas on Wednesday are good, too, without being filling. A go-to for lunch is the weekday pick two special. One can choose two tacos, two enchiladas, etc., accompanied by rice and beans for a reasonable price. The complimentary chips and salsa are good, too. The atmosphere is enhanced by the colorful booths and tables with Mexican scenes. And, there is Norteño or mariachi music always in the background. read more

Impressive portions. First time having El Paso tacos. Made an online order for 20 tacos for $30. Ordered the chicken, pork, steak, and barbacoa tacos. They had a huge portion of meat in each tacos but the meat was pretty dry. However, if the meat was juicier, the soft taco shells would have been soggy and full of grease. The box came with two giant jalapeños that were lightly grilled and onions. The jalapeños had a real kick to them. I enjoyed the rice and retried beans as well. This could easily fill 3-4 people. The margaritas were pretty weak I'd say. For dessert, there were these Mexican yogurt based ice cream that were absolutely bomb. I'd recommend going on a Tuesday for $5 off the menu for tacos. If the chips were fresher and crunchy rather than tasting as though they were sitting under a lamp for an hour, it might be worthy of 5 stars. Both bowls of chips we got had this problem. Wow! El Paso is some of the best Mexican food I've had in the DMV since moving here in 2021. I grew up on southern california/Baja Mexico Mexican food so finding somewhere truly authentic has been very challenging. We have been several times here and always have a pretty great experience. I even brought my sister when she was in town and she agreed it was really good. They drop chip and chunky salsa within a few minutes of sitting down. It has a bit of a spice kick to it and then you can ask for their hot salsa, which is actually fire. We've had fantastic meals, including the flautas, birria platter, Diablo burrito, torta, enchiladas, and nachos. The carne asada fries were decent. Their green sauce for their enchiladas is amazing. Service is usually pretty great but can get a little slower if it's busy. Definitely recommend! read more

Just a great place in everyway. Nice people, big portions, very friendly to families and kids. The nachos are *insane*, it's not a "plate full" - it's a big *platter* and the ingredients are fresh and crisp and tasty and piled sooo high, I'm a big guy and I have trouble finishing them on my own. My daughter is a fan of the 'street tacos' (soft corn tortillas, tasty meat, chopped onions and cilantro) and she's a picky picky eater so finding something that's always a hit with her is a big win. Everything I've tried has been solidly good, it's hard to go wrong - but if you have any doubts or questions, ask! The servers are genuinely nice and took the time to talk to me and my daughter about the options, which was really appreciated. Before my daughter found her new favorite she asked if she could just get "avacado, beans and rice" (I should have stopped her, we don't usually ask for off menu anything) but before I could say anything the server was asking her how she'd like her avacado sliced and if she'd like a little cheese too. By far my favorite Mexican restaurant in this area. I've always enjoyed coming and eating here with my friends and my family. I couldn't recommend it more. Out of all of the times I've been throughout the years I don't think I've ever had a bad meal. I'll list out some favorites of mine: Any kind of street tacos from Jalisco, I'm especially fond of the carne asada and barbacoa. The tacos are muy authentico that the only thing they leave out are the fried cactus I had when I was In Guadalajara. El Diablo burrito is just also as delicious and very filling. However very American, still, it is a hodgepodge of all of your favorite foods inside one fiery burrito. Chorizo con queso or any queso for that matter. Who doesn't love melted cheese? Service has always been on point. Any time I've had to wait was met with extra apologies and an even faster meal being brought out. I love this restaurant. Their birria tacos are my favorite and are SO good-- I just wish they gave you a little more consome with them. Their food is fairly priced and although I haven't tried everything on their menu, everything I've had has been nothing but delicious. The environment and overall vibe of this place is great and there's plenty of seating inside and outside. Every time I've gone the servers have always been very nice and attentive to me. Thought I'd have a wait when I saw a group of people waiting. Nope. Seated in less than 5 minutes! My waitress was very attentive and recommended several things. While I decided, tried the chips and salsa. Both were fresh but the salsa was a bit bland for my taste. Decided to go for the El Mocajete with a side of Diana's Queso Loco. What makes it crazy? It's Queso and cheddar topped with steak and pico de Gallo. And it was damn tasty. Just the right amount of gooeyness to stick to the chips, and the steak was well seasoned. Great portion size too. Speaking of portion size... El Mocajete is a dish served in a volcanic bowl. This one?!?! Enough food for 4-5 people. And it was amazing! 5 stars for presentation and taste. The menu has lots of options, some which are different from other Tex mex restaurants and we liked trying something new. We ordered Diana's Queso Loco to start. Hands down this place has some of the best Tex-Mex in the area. I love the Rt 1 location and this spot is just as good, for both sport delicious salsa and yummy grub for days. I was really impressed with their spicy chips and salsa, and I could have made meal just out of that, but the chili relleno beckoned. It was a combination of cheesy and peppery goodness that I always crave. This Mexican feast was further enhanced by a side of hearty refried beans. Yum. They told us it would be a 30 min wait but it wasnt that long before they seated our party of 4 down. Everything looked so good and smelled wonderful. I had never been to El Paso but I had heard so many great things about it! I ordered a medium pina colada margarita and the carne azada tacos. OH MY GOD. the medium margarita was very big and so yummy! my friends got a large and it was so big but the price was amazing for the size. The carne azada was very tender and so yummy. I loved everyrthing about this place except I wished we got water served first because it took a while for us to get water. I have been coming here for over 15 years! Wow has it gone down hill... It looks cute inside but that is pretty much the only positive from my most recent visit unfortunately. -the queso was cold so we had to ask to have it microwaved -the server took 5-10 minutes for our drink order -the kids french fries were so undercooked a 2 year old wouldn't eat them -the churro dessert was still frozen inside when they brought it out so we told them and they took it back...only to bring back out more undercooked churros! -my friend got tacos that smelled so bad she thought the meat was rancid Very disappointing and the staff just doesn't seem happy anymore.v read more

I'm not a fan of the beans. This place is the absolute best Mexican I've had since moving to VA hands down! I was seated quickly and given a menu of great variety but I went for the customer favorites section which is a helpful section to have on a menu for new comer. The waitress Gabriella was so helpful, accommodating, and polite. The food came out hot including the rice and beans which is rare because usually they're like warm. The food was phenomenal, so flavorful, and enough to take home! The margaritas were a little sweeter than I prefer but no complaints. I ordered tacos to go and Gabriella made sure that every was separate so that my tacos wouldn't get soggy! I was absolutely blown away! The seasoning, the accompanying salsas! The beans were delish. I'm particular about beans but I couldn't stop eating these and the rice! The rice was so good and it was the first time I've had rice from a Mexican spot that had carrots and peas: loved the rice! How is it that I've lived in Springfield half my life and have never stopped for a meal at El Paso until now?! Blasphemous, really - this is a fantastic little spot. First and foremost, the interior of El Paso is so colorful and festive! It's nice when restaurants have a unique "vibe", and this one sure did. The fact that all the chairs were so beautifully carved and painted with different designs instantly brought a smile to my face, and will make it so that I never confuse El Paso with another Mexican restaurant. Secondly, the food was not only delicious, but also provided FANTASTIC value for money. We ordered off the brunch menu, getting the Migas dish and a brunch burrito (for about $9 apiece). Both were delicious and the portion sizes were ginormous (especially the case for my burrito - it looked like it could feed a small family, if need be). Even after eating to my heart's content, I simply could not finish my burrito and had leftovers that amounted to an additional meal later on. And again, both dishes were super tasty. In fact, just thinking about them is kind of making me crave more Mexican food again as I write this... Finally, the service was fantastic. Our waiter was extremely friendly and there were positive vibes all around. My only complaint - which is really not a complaint at all - is that there were so many dishes on the menu that looked mouth-wateringly appetizing that it seemed nearly impossible to choose just one thing to eat. I needed a quiet place to think about some projects I'm working on, so a Mexican restaurant on a Sunday morning seemed like a good idea. Nothing quite gets the intellectual juices flowing like a good burrito! I arrived shortly after they opened and they seated me at a large table where I could spread out my notebook, computer, and other accoutrement. This was my first time at this restaurant (I hadn't realized it was a local chain), and I opted for the breakfast burrito. After ordering I pulled out my notebook to being jotting down some thoughts, but the burrito came out faster than I expected. It was gigantic, filled with the standard eggs, potatoes, and bacon but also covered in a white sauce. A little bit of green chile salsa would have been nice to spice it up a bit, but it was still delicious. About halfway through the burrito, I thought to myself that I would need a box to take home the leftovers. But it was so good that I just kept going and ate the entire thing. I guess sometimes when we start something - a project or a burrito - we might think we know how it's going to end up, but as we get further into the problem our desired outcomes change. When I finished the burrito I immediately wondered if I had made a bad decision eating the entire thing; it was a lot of food and the white sauce was pretty heavy. Would my stomach compel me to regret my ambition? I stayed for awhile continuing to scribble thoughts in my notebook for my projects, sipping away at a Diet Pepsi (no Coke Zero available). But my stomach made no complaints, and everything digested well. I'm writing this review two days after my visit, and I can safely say that I have no regrets going all the way to the finish with that burrito. read more

I decided to give it another try just this past week and once again not blown away, but pleased enough to give it another try in the near future to give some of their other menu options a try. We were just looking to grab a small bite and a couple of margaritas. A Mexican restaurants chips and salsa is usually a good way to determine food quality...IMO. The chips and salsa were nice and fresh but the salsa needed a little something. We asked for some sort of spicy sauce on the side, since we are always looking for a good hot sauce. Waiter brought out a small container of a sauce that was a level 8 out of 10!! Loved it. If you like spicy this is a good request. We added a bit of the sauce to our salsa...just what it needed for us. We decided to order a few street tacos since we weren't looking for anything big. We ordered 3 street tacos, which were authentic street tacos, two/three bites, served on one corn tortilla, topped with onion and cilantro served with a side of radishes and the green and red sauce!! Went with the carnitas, carne asada, and chorizo. Out of the 3, the chorizo was my favorite. It was the one that had the most flavor and cooked perfectly. The carnitas was a bit dry and the carne lacked flavor and had a unique consistency. I've had a ton of street tacos in my life and for me these just weren't blowing me away. They have a bunch of other meats to choose from, so I will give em another try and see which might be my favs. As for the margaritas, we ordered the Cadillac margaritas which were yummy and packed a punch.
